Several artists from the Automotive Fine Arts Society (AFAS) will display their best automotive artwork at the 2014 SEMA Show Art Walk, Tuesday, November 4, through Friday, November 7.

The Art Walk will feature works on display from some of the world’s leading automotive artists on the Skybridge between the South and Central halls of the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC). Visitors will be able to meet the artists, see their latest creations and even leave with a souvenir for the office or home.

“As the subject for many of the world’s most talented artists, cars have inspired artistic creativity for over a century,” said Chris Kersting, President and CEO of SEMA. “This inspiration has influenced vehicle designers, bringing the worlds of traditional artists and vehicle engineers together. The unity of these two worlds will be apparent at the SEMA Show Art Walk, where showgoers will be able to see firsthand the creativity and talent that the artists bring to the industry.”

The SEMA Art Walk will take place in the South Hall, Skybridge Tuesday–Thursday, November 4–6, from 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., and Friday, November 7, from 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. AFAS artists attending this year include Ken Eberts, Tom Fritz, Bill Motta and Dennis Brown.

“The SEMA Art Walk offers a fantastic venue to exhibit our most recent pieces," said Ken Eberts, AFAS president and founding member. “We are honored to be among the few artist to be invited to attend the Art Walk. SEMA patrons appreciate all things automotive and we’re thrilled to be able to share our passion for automotive art with enthusiasts from around the world.”

AFAS was created in 1983 by six artists, and shortly after, the Society made its first appearance as a group at the Pebble Beach Concours d’ Elegance, which they are still a part of the event today. The exclusive group is comprised of 25 members worldwide who demonstrate talent, innovation and an undeniable passion for the automobile.

This year, the Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Engine Challenge championship is split into a dual format in which the top two teams from the 2014 SEMA Show will compete against the top two teams from the 2014 PRI Show.

This year, the sixth-annual Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Engine Challenge championships are split into a dual-championship format in which teams will compete at both the 2014 SEMA Show (November 4–7, in Las Vegas) and the PRI Show (December 11–13, in Indianapolis). From each dual championship, two teams will emerge. These four teams will face off for the 2014 Engine Challenge championship starting Friday, December 12, at 5:00 p.m., and two additional rounds on Saturday at the 2014 PRI Show.

With the SEMA Show quickly approaching, teams are gearing up for the competition. To have a chance at being a championship finalist, teams will likely need to complete the high-performance engine rebuild in less than 20 minutes.

Fifteen teams will compete at the 2014 SEMA Show beginning with the first heat on Tuesday, November 4. Heats continue through Wednesday and Thursday. Each team will compete a total of four times, with their slowest time being thrown out and the other three runs averaged together. The top two teams with the best average times will move on to the PRI Show to compete against the top two teams from PRI. View the complete SEMA Show schedule.

“The Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Engine Challenge is a great program fueled by the young men and women who compete in it,” SEMA’s Zane Clark elaborated. As the director of education, he is looking forward to the dual championship being a part of the SEMA Show. “The new format of having the SEMA Show champions compete again at the PRI Show against their champs will be very exciting and showcase the tremendous skills of these young builders, while offering a rewarding end to their hard work and dedication. The industry-supported scholarships are a tremendous incentive for the qualifying participants and helps to offset the expenses of pursuing a career in the automotive industry.”

“Ohio Technical College (OTC) is proud to have been a sponsor of the Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Engine Challenge since the first competition at SEMA,” said OTC’s Director of Enrollment Management Tom King. “It’s a great opportunity to see young people learning and working as a team to prove themselves, and we are excited to provide scholarship opportunities to these students again this year.”

Three million dollars in scholarship money is available to the 34 teams competing in the dual championship, thanks to Hot Rodders of Tomorrow partners OTC, School of Automotive Machinist (SAM) and the University of Northwest Ohio (UNOH).

“The University of Northwestern Ohio is proud to be an active sponsor of the Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Competition at the 2014 SEMA Show,” added UNOH’s Donald Lowden. “We are offering scholarships to the talented students who place in the competition to help further their education in high-performance technology. Good luck to all the participants.”

Each member of the winning team will receive $10,000 in scholarship opportunities from each college partner.

“The School of Automotive Machinists is happy to support high school students who are excited about the automotive industry,” said Kim Klevenhagen, director of development at SAM. “We hope these students will continue their automotive training and go on to work in the motorsports industry.”

In order to meet the growing needs of the automotive aftermarket industry, the Aftermarket Foundation has announced that the organization is actively searching to hire a full-time executive director.

“We are the only not-for-profit charity dedicated solely to helping automotive aftermarket industry members and their families in times of need, and have been doing so very quietly for over 55 years,” stated Aftermarket Foundation President Robert Bob Hirsch. “Our Foundation is presently comprised of 29 trustees, and over 250 supporting associations, corporations and individuals, each of which is committed to helping individuals within our aftermarket ‘family,’ who have fallen on hard times due to catastrophic circumstances, with no place to turn for assistance.”

Hirsch added, “In recent years, we have adopted a number of programs to raise awareness of the foundation, and as a result, demand is growing, we are expanding our reach and meeting the needs of a broader-based and ever-growing number of individuals. We have determined that the time has come to appoint a full-time executive director, whose job it will be to co-ordinate and execute on all our programs of awareness and support.”

Since 1959, the Aftermarket Foundation has assisted individuals and families of the automotive aftermarket industry that have fallen on hard times due to an unexpected death, catastrophic injury, serious illness or financial hardship. Board members are called upon to assist in the fundraising efforts and to also assist in the identification of those in need.

“This should be a challenging but enjoyable and rewarding position for the right candidate,” said Hirsch. “The Aftermarket Foundation is undergoing significant change, and an even further spread of its reach so, while there is much to do, the potential for achievement is fantastic and should be appealing to interested candidates.”

The foundation has established a Search Committee, and has retained the highly respected Washington, D.C.-based executive search firm, Vetted Solutions LLC, to coordinate the search.

Individuals with executive capability and familiarity with the automotive aftermarket industry who are interested in the position are invited to contact James Zaniello, Vetted Solutions, at jim.zaniello@vettedsolutions.com or 202-544-4749.
