Here’s the upcoming refresh to the GMC Sierra Denali 1500 towing a trailer.

Expected to launch for the ’22 model year, the refresh will update the various perceived shortcomings of the GMC Sierra that was introduced for the ’19 model year. Noteworthy items to expect include new front and rear fascias, an all-new cockpit with a large center screen, an all-digital gauge cluster, plus Super Cruise on the range-topping Denali model.

Expect an official debut in mid 2021.

Covercraft Announces Title Sponsorship of Bradley Roy

Covercraft has announced its continuation as the title sponsor of Major League Fishing professional angler Bradley Roy of Lancaster, Kentucky. In addition to being a highly skilled angler, Bradley is dedicated to giving back to the community through charitable events and programs. One part of Roy’s commitment to his community is the annual Bradley Roy High School Open fishing tournament. Beginning in 2019, the Bradley Roy Open added Covercraft as the title sponsor. Covercraft branding will again be the focus of Roy’s truck, boat, and jersey for 2021, but the sponsorship goes beyond that.  With the support of Covercraft, Roy will again host a sweepstakes for one angler to fish with him on Lake Cumberland. Covercraft will outfit the lucky winner’s vehicle with their products from bumper to bumper.

Whelen Modified Tour Announces 2021 Schedule

NASCAR has announced the 2021 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour calendar, which includes 14 races across six states from Maine to Virginia. The schedule is a mix of historic staples, the return of a pair of tracks, and an inaugural trip to an upstate New York venue. The 2021 season will open at Martinsville Speedway, Thursday, April 8, as part of the NASCAR Cup Series weekend. It will conclude with the traditional Fall Final race weekend at Connecticut’s Stafford Motor Speedway.

The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will also race on the national series weekends at Virginia’s Richmond Raceway on September 10, and New Hampshire Motor Speedway on July 17. Stafford, which has hosted 132 races since the tour began in 1985, will have three dates, including the season races of the season as part of its annual Spring Sizzler weekend.

In addition to the tour’s first race at New York International Raceway in Lancaster, New York, on July 31, upstate New York will see a pair of races at Oswego Speedway — on June 12 and September 4. For the complete schedule, visit here.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued an advanced proposed rule asking the public to identify any test procedures under the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) that should be modified or repealed. The notice is a follow-up to a request in October 2017 to identify outdated NHTSA regulations. Comments are due February 8, 2021.

Most of the FMVSS governs the entire motor vehicle from braking systems and tire pressure monitoring systems to the crashworthiness standards (roof crush, side impact, air bags, etc.). Some standards cover equipment such as tires, brake hoses and fluids, and glazing materials. Click here for a guide to the FMVSS.

NHTSA provided several examples of safety standard test procedures that may be outdated including the outrigger test used to test MPVs under FMVSS No. 126, Electronic Stability Control. Sample questions to be considered include: do the tests require equipment that is obsolete or no longer available at a reasonable cost? Are there any test procedures that do not accurately reflect real-world scenarios? Has industry developed better and/or more cost-effective tests?

Beginning January 1, 2021, the states of California and Washington will not permit the sale of automotive brakes containing more than 5% copper. The ban on excessive copper stems from a pair of 2010 laws designed to limit the amount of the chemical in waterways. By 2025, brakes must contain less that 0.5% copper.

Copper is used as a friction material in brake pads as it effectively dissipates heat and allows for smooth braking. However, each time a vehicle’s brakes are applied, copper dust is released which eventually makes its way into waterways where it is toxic to marine life.

In 2015, brake manufacturers, automakers and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) agreeing to adopt California’s and Washington’s standards, and to phase out the use of copper brake pads.

Both states have published guidance and FAQ on each law’s implementation:
