Metra Electronics
iBEAM Replacement Camera for Jeep Gladiator
Metra Electronics

iBEAM Vehicle Safety Systems by Metra Electronics released a new replacement camera designed for ’20-and-up Jeep Gladiator JT models. When replacing the radio on these vehicles, the factory LVDS backup camera presents a challenge for aftermarket screens and can be expensive to retain using an interface. iBEAM’s JP-JTKT camera replaces the factory camera to provide an affordable solution that allows the driver to see their backup video on a compatible aftermarket screen when in reverse.

The JP-JTKT has an RCA output for aftermarket radios or monitors with selectable parking lines and a 160-degree viewing angle. Two different types of camera mounting brackets are available to cover models equipped with either a standard backup camera or models equipped with surround or 360 systems. (Surround or 360 systems are not retained with this kit.)

Go Rhino
CEROS Low Profile Roof Rack for Toyota Tacoma
Go Rhino

Go Rhino's EROS Low Profile Roof Rack for ’16–’21 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab offers an aerodynamic, low-profile design that is application-specific and features Go Rhino’s exclusive 4-CORE mounting system.

The CEROS Rack features exclusive 4-CORE crossbars braced by an aluminum frame. The 4-CORE is an extruded track system of slotted bars that can accept any 1/4-in.-20 hex bolt or quick-release clamp, which means almost any accessory can be bolted to the rack. This system offers unlimited mounting options for accessories, gear and tools, which can be used interchangeably with Go Rhino’s 4-CORE-based XRS Xtreme Overland and SRM Roof Rack series.

The CEROS Rack was designed with integrated lighting options in mind. The frontmost crossbar can be used to mount a light bar or multiple cube lights, and the dropped edge of the fairing allows a single row light bar to remain flush with the frame’s topline, maintaining a sleek, streamlined look. Two openings along each of the rack’s side panels will fit most 6-in. single-row lights, which can be mounted with or without Go Rhino’s signature hex-patterned mesh screens. Along the frame’s upper lip, strategic mounting slots allow zip ties to be inserted to secure and hide the wiring from your lights.

HRIAHushmat and ZyCoat are the latest companies to be recognized by the SEMA Hot Rod Industry Alliance (HRIA) member spotlight program. Hushmat is a thermal and sound deadening material designed for cars, trucks, boats and RVs, while ZyCoat provides the automotive industry with hard-wearing thermal coating designed for hard-running engines and exhaust systems—both manufactured by companies under the product’s name. Hear from the CEO and founder of both companies Tim McCarthy as he shares the story of his businesses.

SEMA: Tell us the story of your shops. How did you start?

Tim McCarthy: Since the day I started manufacturing the HushMat brand of sound-deadening and thermal-insulation materials, customers asked me to develop a spray material that provided the same level of performance that HushMat extruded products. For more than 30 years, we evaluated materials and chemistries, and it is not possible for a material of adequate mass and viscosity to flow through an aerosol or spray nozzle. The material simply does not exist. In total we have evaluated hundreds of materials.

ZyBar

SEMA: What was your breakthrough moment?

TM: The breakthrough moment came in 2011 when we found a two-component material being applied to airplane exhaust components. The material was precisely mixed A vs. B and applied directly to exhaust components. The material was used to dissipate heat, extend the life and thrive under jet engine exhaust temperatures. This immediately piqued my interest. We spent just less than seven years reformulating this material into a single component, sprayable chemistry that thrives at 1600 metal surface temperatures. For the record headers “Glow Red” at 1150–1170 F.

SEMA: Tell us about your business now in 2021 and what projects are you working on?

TM: We are working on a new color for the ZyBar line that represents the old-school cast gray to add to the Bronze Satin, Midnight Black and Aluminum (Silver).

Zycor

SEMA: What excites you most about the hot-rod industry?

TM: The one thing about our hot rod and restoration industry that gets me moving every day is the enthusiasm and love of the automobile that our customers express. Talking with customers directly and hearing this enthusiasm fuels our excitement and passion for this industry.

SEMA: What advice do you have for young professionals contemplating a career in the automotive aftermarket?

TM: Stick to your knitting. In other words, focus on what you are good at and what you know. Everyone has an opinion but you know what you are good at. Stick to it and focus. Don’t try to be everything to all people.

Fill out an HRIA-member spotlight form to highlight how your company is contributing to the hot-rod industry. Selected candidates are eligible to be featured on HRIA’s and media, SEMA eNews and future HRIA-member updates.

Dallas DonovanDallas Donovan is the SEMA Young Executives Network’s (YEN) newest spotlight member. Donovan is a regional sales manager at Dee Zee, manufacturer of truck accessories for the automotive aftermarket.

SEMA: What is the best advice you have ever received?

Dallas Donovan: In order to be successful in sales, you have to know the product like you designed and built it.

SEMA: What keeps you in the industry?

DD: What keeps me in the industry is the like-minded people who are very relaxed, yet always strive for excellence in all aspects of life and business.

SEMA: Where can you be found on a Saturday?

DD: I can be found doing something outdoors or watching the Iowa State Cyclones play football.

SEMA: How do you prepare for an important meeting?

DD: Dressed for success so that I can feel confident in the task of the meeting. I always make sure I have all my ducks in a row to make sure everything goes smoothly.

SEMA: If you could go to lunch with one industry leader, living or dead, who it would be?

DD: I would go to lunch with Jay Leno because you are guaranteed to have some good laughs and enjoyable laid-back discussions.

Reid Lunde
Reid Lunde, owner and founder of Kaizen Speed, was named
winner of the 2019 SEMA Launch Pad. The 2021 SEMA Launch
Pad competition is open to all qualified participants over the age
of 18 years, and includes a grand-prize package valued up to
$92,000 and promotional support.

Five finalists from the SEMA Launch Pad will compete at the SEMA Show, where they will pitch their product ideas to a panel of established industry professionals who serve as judges and mentors.

The SEMA Launch Pad is a product-pitching competition for inventors of automotive-related products. In addition to a chance to win a grand prize valued at $92,000, participants have an opportunity to showcase and pitch their products in front of a live audience during the SEMA Show.

For many past participants, getting feedback and hearing from established industry professionals is worth more than the prizes.

“Remember that just because you’re in love with it, doesn't mean it’s a good idea,” said Reid Lunde, who won the 2019 SEMA Launch Pad competition for the Kaizen Relay.

As winner of the SEMA Launch Pad, Lunde advises that competitors prepare their pitches in advance. “The judges are looking for a combination of the right product, in the right person’s hands. They’re betting on you as much as they’re betting on the product. Be prepared with answers to questions, such as your sales, rollout plan and history. Have the story about why your product is necessary and why you worked so hard to breathe life into it.”

To apply for the 2021 Launch Pad competition, applicants must be a business owner, company-leading executive (president, CEO, CFO, COO) or vice president of a company, and must offer a product or service that is a functioning prototype, functioning concept or currently for sale. Applications are being accepted until May 30.

Apply for SEMA Launch Pad.

The GTstreet R performance model of the Porsche tuning company TECHART was spotted parked in downtown Stuttgart. The car will most likely be presented in the upcoming weeks.

The front of the GTstreet R has been aerodynamically improved over the “standard” 911 Turbo S. Carbon-fiber flaps ensure improved air flow on the new front apron. The carbon-fiber front hood with large GT3-like air inlets makes us expect significantly reduced lift at the front. Also, clearly visible above the widened fenders on the front are pronounced air outlets.

The rear features an aerodynamic carbon-fiber spoiler. Insiders report that an additional rear wing profile can be extended variably to maximize downforce on the racetrack.

Besides the spoiler, TECHART has given the rear a more aggressive apron compared to the Zuffenhausen models featuring a large carbon diffuser with two massive, center-mounted tailpipes. This sports exhaust system is said to deliver a deep sound.

Further to the edges of the car, the Formula VI Race wheels are equipped with aerodynamic discs. With TECHART having its own carbon manufacturing, these aero discs will likely be made of that material as well.

Performance of the engine under the wings can only be guessed. With the performance increase for the 911 Turbo S being 60 hp and 74 lb.-ft. to a total of 710 hp and 665 lb.-ft., a total power output of around 800 hp is expected for the second power stage. This means that the TECHART GTstreet R will be significantly faster than its counterpart from the Zuffenhausen factory.

While the interior of this particular prototype wasn’t modified, TECHART is known for its handcrafted interior refinement programs. For the predecessor, a clubsport package with roll bars, sports seats and individualized steering wheels were available. Expect the same to come for the new model, too, without having to do without standard comfort features of the base model.
