Here’s a prototype of the upcoming Corvette C8 Z06 undergoing testing.

All prototypes spotted feature a staggered wheel/tire configuration, with the rear tires being particularly wide. Compared to a “regular” Stingray that is also part of the convoy (along with a Ferrari 458 and Porsche GT2 RS), the eighth-gen Z06 has a wider stance. There’s camo covering what is imagined to be carbon-fiber wheels. Also note the center-exit dual exhaust, which is the first time this kind of exhaust configuration has been seen on the C8.

The Z06 accelerates rapidly, rowing through the first few gears to escape traffic. The high-pitched revs produced by the car are very distinct and are unlike anything else seen from the Corvette lineup throughout its history. A high-revving DOHC 5.5L V8 is expected to be under the hood, based on the racing motor introduced in the C8.R last year.

The deadline for the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) to approve Payroll Protection Program (PPP) loans is June 30, 2020, so do not wait to submit your application for the program. More than $120 billion is still available for lending (as of June 20). The SBA has a “Find Local Lenders” page to help locate the nearest PPP lending institutions.  

Lawmakers recently enacted the PPP Flexibility Act to provide companies more options on how funds are used. Highlights include:

• Loan Amount: PPP loans equal the average of one month’s 2019 payroll multiplied by 2.5 (capped at $10 million).
• Amount Forgiven: The SBA will forgive that portion of the loan used to cover payroll, rent payments, mortgage interest and the cost of utilities for a fixed period of time. As a result of the PPP Flexibility Act, the employer may now choose the covered period, either: (a) eight consecutive weeks from when the loan was received, or (b) up to 24 weeks from when the loan was received or on December 31, 2020, whichever comes first.
• Use of Funds: PPP funds can be used to cover payroll, mortgage or rent payments, utilities and other specified expenses. At least 60% of the amount to be forgiven must be spent on payroll, which includes employee benefit costs for vacation, sick/parental leave, insurance premiums, retirement benefits and state and local taxes.
• Interest Rate and Repayment Terms: The loan interest rate is 1%. Repayments on any amount not forgiven is deferred at least 10 months after the end of the covered period, with a two-year term for loans secured before June 5, and five-year term for loans on or after that date.
• Rehiring Workers: Employers have until December 31, 2020, to rehire workers and have their salaries count toward forgiveness.
• Payroll Taxes: Businesses receiving a PPP loan may also defer payment of 2020 payroll taxes.
• Forgiveness Application: The SBA has created two applications for seeking loan forgiveness—a standard form and an EZ version, which requires fewer calculations and less documentation.

Meyer Distributing Announces Acquisition of Automotive Distributing Company

Meyer Distributing Inc. has announced the acquisition of Automotive Distributing Company (ADC) based in Pennsylvania. ADC has been fully integrated into the Meyer platform, allowing increased service levels throughout the Northeast. Meyer also announced the company is currently hiring sales and purchasing positions.

“We have been looking to expand our relationships in the Northeast,” Meyer Distributing CEO Jeff Braun said. “ADC provides a great opportunity to increase coverage and improve customer service with employees [who have] lots of experience in the automotive aftermarket. We’re hiring for sales and purchasing positions there currently. We will continue to look for distribution and acquisition opportunities in our automotive, lifestyle, and janitorial/sanitation businesses.”

MAHLE Motorsport Promotes Joe Maylish to Sales and Program Manager

MAHLE Motorsport General Manager Brad Green has announced the promotion of Joe Maylish to sales and program manager for the company’s North American motorsports division in Fletcher, North Carolina. Maylish will now serve as the primary contact for all external sales representatives, warehouse distributors and other customers, and will develop and coordinate sales strategies, goals and missions, direct training and coordinate market research to meet sales goals. He will temporarily continue to provide direction and oversight of the company’s marketing efforts and media buys for MAHLE Motorsport until the marketing manager position is filled. Maylish has been leading the division’s marketing department since 2018. Prior to his hire at MAHLE Motorsport, Maylish was the sales and production manager for Robby Gordon Motorsports SPEED UTV (Charlotte, North Carolina) and regional sales manager for U.S. Legend Cars/Speedway Motorsports Inc. (Las Vegas), where he had extensive event operations and management experience in NASCAR and NHRA.

GearFX Driveline Announces New Location

GearFX Driveline has announced the company will relocate to a new facility in Mooresville, North Carolina. The new location is down the street from its current post. The company's new 18,000-sq.-ft. facility increases the company’s footprint by more than 5,000 sq. ft. The new location will feature a larger dyno area and increased warehouse capacity. The machine shop, build shop and fabrication shop will also each be housed in individual, climate-controlled spaces to better control dust mitigation. Te new physical and mailing address is 114 Infield Court, Mooresville, NC 28117.

Champion Brands can produce 33,000 Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) roundbottles in 24 hours, or 230,000 bottles per week—just shy of 1 million bottles per month.

Champion Brands Filling Aftermarket Demand With 12-oz. Clear PET Bottles

Champion Brands LLC is actively seeking orders for 12-oz., clear, Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) round bottles to be filled on its AOKI “AL-500LL-50S” production line. Polyethylene terephthalate is a polymer that is formed by combining two monomers: modified ethylene glycol and purified terephthalic acid. Champion’s AOKI “AL-500LL-50S” production line produces almost zero scrap plastic, according to the company. Bottle runs are typically at 23bpm, which comes out to 33,000 bottles in 24 hours, or 230,000 bottles per week—just shy of 1 million bottles per month.

Dayco Adds Sales And Marketing Leadership

Dayco has announced several leadership changes. Thomas J. (TJ) Fontana will serve as the director of sales for North America, while Shannon Lara has been announced as the director of marketing for the North American aftermarket. In addition, Tyler Samagalski was promoted to the director of industrial, fluid power and performance markets in North America. All will report directly to Dayco Vice President of the North American Aftermarket Tom Tecklenburg. Fontana will lead the light and commercial vehicle aftermarket segment, while Samagalski will head up the industrial, fluid power and performance markets for the United States and Canada. Lara will work directly with the pair to deliver new products, programs and applications to the market.

Tim Zapp Promoted To Borowski Race Engines Shop Manager

Borowski Race Engines Inc. (BRE) has announced that Tim Zapp has been promoted from lead technician to shop manager. Zapp, an active drag racer, is described as a “true prodigy,” having assembled his first engine at the age of 14. Zapp most recently completed Holley’s EFI training program as well as an advanced Rottler 5-axis CNC course. Zapp first joined Borowski Race Engines while still attending high school, and is now in his ninth year of employment with the engine builder.
