Industry Indicators
According to the latest “SEMA Industry Indicators” report, while many economic indicators remain down from pre-pandemic levels, they have started to recover from the lows seen in April.

What will go down in the record books as one of the steepest and deepest economic declines in U.S. history will likely also be the shortest. While many economic indicators remain down from pre-pandemic levels, they have started to recover from the lows seen in April.

Furthermore, consumers seem ready to return to normal economic activity once COVID-19 is sufficiently handled.

The U.S. auto industry was impacted by this economic downturn, but is starting to recover now that the country is reopening. New-vehicle sales were up in May, and the motor vehicles and parts manufacturing sector added 28,000 jobs. Additionally, by mid-June, most vehicle plants in the United States would have resumed production.

Corvette

Here’s a prototype of the upcoming Corvette C8 Z06 undergoing testing.

All prototypes spotted feature a staggered wheel/tire configuration, with the rear tires being particularly wide. Compared to a “regular” Stingray that is also part of the convoy (along with a Ferrari 458 and Porsche GT2 RS), the eighth-gen Z06 has a wider stance. There’s camo covering what is imagined to be carbon-fiber wheels. Also note the center-exit dual exhaust, which is the first time this kind of exhaust configuration has been seen on the C8.

The Z06 accelerates rapidly, rowing through the first few gears to escape traffic. The high-pitched revs produced by the car are very distinct and are unlike anything else seen from the Corvette lineup throughout its history. A high-revving DOHC 5.5L V8 is expected to be under the hood, based on the racing motor introduced in the C8.R last year.

Collector Car Appreciation Day (CCAD) will be celebrated this year on July 10. At the request of the SEMA Action Network (SAN), this holiday has been marked each year since 2010 by a U.S. Congressional Resolution recognizing that the “collection and restoration of historic and classic cars is an important part of preserving the technological achievements and cultural heritage of the United States.” States, local governments and Canadian provinces have adopted similar commemorative declarations, making it an international recognition of the collector-car hobby and the millions of individuals who support it.

If you or someone you know is hosting a vehicle-related gathering in July—whether public or private—submit the details at no cost on the SAN website if you haven't done so already! Locate an official listing near you and more on the SEMA Action Network homepage.  Participating organizers will be awarded a copy of the Congressional resolution for display at their registered event.

As in years past, a wide range of automotive festivities are planned to commemorate the occasion. With an understanding that this summer may not allow in-person events, those planning to celebrate with a virtual gathering (online event, livestream, digital gallery, etc.) are welcome to provide details for inclusion on the SAN website. As always, the SAN welcomes any level of participation throughout the month of July and encourages everyone to spread the word about honoring the classics of the past and the future.

Celebrate the hobby your way!

  • Attend an official vehicle-inspired event or web-based celebration.
  • Host your own safety-minded gathering, club meeting or online gallery.
  • Promote a holiday sale at your business in-store or online.
  • Invite partnerships with nearby enthusiast-related groups if possible.
  • Drive your special ride—new or old—whatever the destination.
