Washington, D.C. (April 22, 2011) - A number of prominent organizations have formed the "Save the Salt Coalition" to protect the Bonneville Salt Flats (BSF) from continued deterioration due to salt brine removal from potash mining.  The Coalition is now working with government officials, mine operators and others to develop a permanent program to replenish the salt.

Washington, D.C. (April 20, 2011) - Washington joined the growing list of states to enact SEMA model legislation to amend the vehicle titling and registration classification for street rods and create a classification for custom vehicles.. The bill was approved by the Washington State Legislature and signed into law by Governor Christine Gregoire.  Under the new law, a street rod is defined as an altered vehicle manufactured before 1949 and a custom as an altered vehicle at least 30 years old and manufactured after 1948.  Importantly, kit cars and replica vehicles will be assigned a certificate of title bearing the same model year designation as the production vehicle they most closely resemble.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 14, 2011) - After Congress acted last week to repeal the costly 1099 reporting requirement included in last year's health care law, President Obama today signed the legislation into law.  SEMA congratulates Congress and the President for acting to eliminate this burdensome requirement. Through this bipartisan agreement, small business owners can continue to focus on economic growth and revitalization.

Candidates for the 2011
SEMA Board of Directors election have been announced. In addition to the 17
members vying for a seat on the Board, this year's election includes voting for
the Chairman-Elect. The Chairman-Elect plays a critical role in the industry,
serving as Chairman-Elect for two years before transitioning to the Chairman of
the Board position.

Applications are now
available to exhibit at the 2011 SEMA Show, the premier automotive trade event
where manufacturers of specialty parts and accessories connect face-to-face
with more than 50,000 quality buyers from throughout the world.  The
application, also called the Exhibit Space Rental Agreement - or ESRA, is
available here.

Nominations are now being accepted for the SEMA Hall of Fame. Created in 1969, the SEMA Hall of Fame is the most prestigious award presented to an individual by the association. It is designed to honor outstanding persons in the industry who have enhanced the stature of, or significantly contributed to, the industry and/or association's growth.

Washington, D.C. (March 8, 2011) - Along with defending the rights of hobbyists across the United States and Canada, the SAN is now making dreams come true with a chance to attend the 2011 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. The Specialty
Equipment Market Association (SEMA), the authoritative source for research,
data, trends and market growth information for the specialty auto parts
industry, released the results of a new study entitled "Influence of
Accessories on New Vehicle Sales." Key findings are that accessories influence
more than 1 million new vehicle sales each year, help reinforce customer
satisfaction, and can substantially increase sales at the dealership
level.  In addition, the study shows that accessorization can influence
new car shoppers to choose vehicle platforms that are accessory-friendly, even
influencing those who do not actually accessorize their vehicle.
