From the SEMA Washington, D.C., office

Truck Fleets

SEMA sued. California retreated. And now the state's emissions standards agency has formally scrapped its zero-emissions purchasing rule for private fleets. The California Air Resources Board (CARB) last week announced the repeal of key parts of its Advanced Clean Fleets (ACF) policy, including applying to federal and private fleets, including dryage trucks.

This is a resounding victory for the industry against California's effort to ban ICE engines and, specifically, California's plans to ban new diesel truck sales by 2036 and require full-fleet conversion by 2042.

BACKGROUND

Previously, the state sought to require that only zero-emissions vehicles (ZEVs) could cross within California's borders, regardless of which state the vehicle was purchased or registered. Vehicles covered by the regulation included everything from heavy-duty tractors with sleeper cabs to work trucks, pickup trucks and light-duty package delivery vehicles. Interstate motor carriers and others who do not own CARB's vehicle of choice would have been barred from operating within the nation's largest single-state economy for even a moment.

SEMA last October teamed with NTEA--The Work Truck Association to file federal suit contending that California had overstepped its constitutional and state statutory authority. After the election of President Trump, California bowed to the pressure and scrutiny of this bad policy, opting to withdraw its request for the required Clean Air Act waiver required to implement ACF.

Sponsored by Turn 14 Distribution

Turn 14 Booth

The Turn 14 Distribution booth at the 2024 SEMA Show.

The SEMA Show, held annually in Las Vegas, is a widely attended event that brings together member companies in the specialty automotive parts market. Vendors, manufacturers, dealers, repair shop owners and distributors from around the world gather to show their innovations, share custom vehicle trends and gain access to education.

But it's so much more than that; it's also the time to reconnect with friends and individuals who share the same passion: builds, mods and speed. In the chaotic fun of the week, attendees all take the time to slow down a bit and catch up with each other over a coffee or a meal.

And Turn 14 Distribution wants to do just that. The wholesale distributor of automotive and powersports aftermarket parts is returning to the SEMA Show this year, and this time, in an even bigger way for their partners.

Turn 14 UTV

The Turn 14 Distribution '25 Can-Am X3 XRS Turbo RR build will be given to one of its dealers early next year.

As a longstanding member of SEMA, Turn 14 Distribution has a history of showing up big for their customers and vendor partners attending the annual show. As in years past, the company will have two locations: a booth in Central Hall as well as a spot in the Silver Lot, both featuring cool builds you won't want to miss.

But before the show starts, there will be something special starting Monday. Turn 14 Distribution is proud to announce the first-ever SEMA Kickoff Golf Tournament, an invite-only, laid-back networking opportunity to start the SEMA week off right. This includes four-person team scrambles and features fun competitions like longest drive, closest to the pin and a poker hand challenge, along with surprise contests throughout the day. Turn 14 Distribution dealers can reach out to your sales representative for more information, as seats are limited.

The Turn 14 Distribution 2025 Mustang build

The Turn 14 Distribution 2025 Mustang build will be unveiled at the SEMA Show.

Starting on Tuesday, the Central Hall Turn 14 booth will proudly display a '25 Harley-Davidson outfitted with Kuryakyn Road Glide FLTRX, and two cool vehicle builds they did in collaboration with their partners, which will be unveiled in full fanfare at the show for all to see. These vehicles are part of a customer giveaway, where lucky customers will have a chance to take one home in 2026. The distributor will also be offering their customers some deals that they won't want to miss. As always, Turn 14 Distribution customers should stop by at booth #21303 to chat and hear more.

Outside, in Silver Lot #84160, the flashy Turn 14 Distribution rig, surrounded by impressive trucks and UTV builds covering all your off-roading needs, will welcome attendees as they stroll up from the monorail to the Central Hall. Attendees can swing by during our coffee hours Tuesday to Friday mornings to say hello--and to come hear all about the UTV build, which is also part of a customer giveaway for one lucky Turn 14 Distribution dealer!

Turn 14 UTV giveaway

The Turn 14 Distribution '25 Can-Am X3 XRS Turbo RR build will be given to one of its dealers early next year.

In typical form, beyond the Trucks & Coffee hours, Turn 14 Distribution will also be offering their partners exclusive happy hours and lunches, as an excuse to hang out a little more.

On top of all these fun connections, Turn 14 Distribution is kicking off the Show week with a Welcome Happy Hour after the first day of the show in a very special place: on top of the West Hall's Terrace, overlooking the entire convention center. This new summit spot offers attendees a nice view of the city and the Las Vegas Sphere!

This exclusive, invitation-only event for Turn 14 Distribution's customers and select vendor partners is designed to tide them over until dinner, allowing them to rest up from the busy opening day, grab a drink and enjoy some finger food--all while the monorail and taxi madness subsides. Turn 14 Distribution dealers who want to attend should contact their sales representative, as spots are limited.

Turn 14 Sequoia

The Turn 14 Distribution Toyota Sequoia build will be given to one of its dealers early next year.

Turn 14 Distribution is a leading, award-winning wholesale distributor of automotive and powersports aftermarket parts in the United States. SBN Spotlight Brenda Peon

The SEMA Businesswomen's Network (SBN) has named Brenda Peon, sales and tech support at CP Carrillo, as the network's newest #SheIsSEMA spotlight member.

Get to know Peon in her interview with SEMA News below.

SEMA News: How many years have you been with your current company and what do you enjoy most about working there?

Brenda: More than seven years. I enjoy the people I work with, along with my wonderful customers, whom I deal with on the daily.

SN: What is the most challenging part of running your business or job?

BP: The most challenging part would be the fact that I am female and when I get a customer call, sometimes they don't think I know the answer or I can help them out. Most of the time, I am able to help the customer out.

SN: What are three qualities that got you to where you are today?

BP: Being attentive, having a great work ethic and always being enthusiastic about my job and what I do. These qualities have benefited me by gaining more knowledge about what I sell and do here at CP Carrillo. I have also attained the trust of my coworkers and especially my customers since I am known to be reliable and attentive.

SN: Being a woman in the industry, what have been your biggest challenges and accomplishments?

BP: The biggest challenge is knowing that I will get that call one day and the customer will ask to speak to a male. I have had that happen before and it was sad at first, but it also makes me stronger and more willing to learn to be more knowledgeable and confident in what I do. As far as accomplishments, I have won awards in the past at car shows for displaying a beautiful modified vehicle that I put work into. I have also grown with my company as an asset to them and they are happy to have me.

SN: Who are your role models or mentors in the industry?

BP: Of course, I have to give a shout-out to my boss Cindy. She's super confident in what she does and has always given me the best advice ever to stay confident and not to hesitate ever. She's definitely helped me grow here at CP Carrillo.

SN: What is the best career advice you have received?

BP: Don't second-guess. If you feel it in your gut, then go with it. Most of the time, that is the correct answer.

SN: Have you always wanted to work in the automotive industry? What keeps you here?

BP: I had wanted to work in the automotive industry in my early 30s. I feel I became more confident in myself then, past my party-hardy 20s, when nothing really was taken seriously. What keeps me here are the people I work with and the job I do. I love working on custom piston builds for my customers.

SN: Who was the most influential person on your career/goals?

BP: For this, I would say my dad. He always worked hard, and I really wish he was here today to see how much I have grown. He'd for sure be super proud.

Fill out a #SheIsSEMA spotlight form to submit a self-nomination or nominate a colleague and highlight how you or she is contributing to the specialty-equipment industry. Selected candidates are automatically eligible to be considered for SBN's #SheIsSEMA Woman of the Year award, featured on SBN's social media, SEMA News and recognized on the sema.org/she-is-sema website.

Zachary Arlen FLN Member Spotlight

The SEMA Future Leaders Network (FLN) has named Zachary Arlen, car shop supervisor at Detroit Speed and Engineering, as the network's newest spotlight member.

Get to know Arlen in his interview with SEMA News below.

SEMA News: What is the best advice you have ever received?

Zachary Arlen: Fail forward. Failures don't need to be something that we punish ourselves for. We all fail at some point. The most important thing we can do after we fail at something is to learn from the situation and improve in order to prevent the same thing in the future. In a professional setting, both from a technician and a supervisor standpoint, this has always pushed me to look for the solution instead of punishing myself for what went wrong.

SN: What keeps you in the industry?

ZA: The automotive lifestyle is in my blood. I grew up around custom cars and I'm extremely passionate about what I do. There were certain people within the industry that I looked up to early on in my career, and I would love to be someone that another young person getting into the industry can look up to.

SN: Where can you be found on a Saturday?

ZA: If I'm not working, I am probably attending a car show/race, rummaging through a junk yard for parts, or simply spending time with my family. On a Saturday morning, coffee is always first.

SN: How do you prepare for an important meeting?

ZA: I try not to over prepare, but if I know the subject matter ahead of time, I try to gather any notes or materials that I would need to reference during that meeting. The rest of the preparation is simply making sure my appearance is professional and being myself. I always like to have genuine interactions with other people, whether it's during a business meeting or at an event.

SN: If you could go to lunch with one industry leader, living or dead, who would it be?

ZA: It's hard to narrow it down to just one person! I'd love to hear more about Troy Trepanier's story and experiences within the custom car industry. Troy, and Rad Rides as a shop, has always been someone I have looked up to within the custom car industry. When you think of trendsetters in the industry, he's absolutely in my top selection of people.

BMR Suspension acquires Control Freak Suspension

BMR Suspension, a Florida-based manufacturer of suspension and chassis products for early- and late-model American performance vehicles, has acquired Control Freak Suspensions of Sanford, Florida.

POWERtube TV: New Promotional Trade Program for Tracks, Promoters

SEMA POWERtubeTV

POWERtube TV, a free automotive and motorsports streaming network, has launched a Support Program designed to help grassroots tracks and promoters expand their reach and connect with more fans. Available on the web, mobile devices and major connected TV platforms--including RokuFire TVApple TV and Android TV--the network is leveraging its platform to give back to the grassroots community.

The program operates as a trade exchange. POWERtube TV provides exposure for participating facilities and events through commercials, web placements, email campaigns and social-media promotion. In return, tracks and promoters display signage and provide digital support to increase awareness of POWERtube TV within their communities.

The goal is to create a cycle of shared visibility: network exposure during local events builds audience size, while that larger audience sees the marketing POWERtube TV generates for the tracks and promoters--driving additional awareness and attendance, the company stated.

"This program isn't about money--it's about lifting each other up," said Brian Bossone, founder of POWERtube TV. "We want to give tracks and promoters the national exposure they deserve, while growing our motorsports audience in the process. The stronger grassroots racing becomes, the stronger the entire industry becomes."

Desert Power Wagons Introduces 6.7L Cummins Turbo Diesel-Powered 4-Door WC-53 Power Wagon SUV

Desert Power Wagons

Desert Power Wagons, located in Wilmington, North Carolina, has announced its latest bespoke masterpiece, a 6.7L Cummins Turbo Diesel-powered 4-door '52 Dodge Power Wagon SUV.

"As any vintage Power Wagon owner knows, while they are very cool to look at, they are horrible to drive. They are unbearably slow, too noisy, have an uncomfortable seating position, vague maneuvering, and the list goes on.

In 2017, the Desert Power Wagons team set out to change that distinction. While retaining the awesome beauty of the classic Power Wagon lines, they decided to make these trucks modern, comfortable, daily drivers," a company release said.

Updated Dodge Power Wagons from Desert Power Wagons offer exceptional acceleration, upgraded suspension systems, precise power steering, modern power brakes, efficient heating and air conditioning, heated power seats, keyless entry, enhanced sound deadening, surround-view cameras, 12-volt synchronized electric windshield wipers, cruise control and more.

Crafted with more than 3,500 hours of precision and skilled labor, this build was completed by a team of master craftsmen in September 2025. Based on a stout Ram 2500 SLT 4x4, it's powered by the dauntless 6.7L 24-valve High-Output Cummins Turbo Diesel inline six-cylinder engine, matched to a smooth-shifting 48RFE 4-speed automatic transmission. The heavy-duty NP271 manual shift-on-the-fly transfer case is designed to ensure that all four wheels receive the full force of its 370 horsepower and 850 lb.-ft. of torque when needed.

The heavy-duty front and rear axles are loaded with 4.10 Gearing, a new powder-coated custom frame, and a 4-link custom suspension system featuring Eibach Race Off-Road 3-in. dual front coilover springs, coupled with front and rear King Shocks 3" performance racing internal bypass coil-over adjustable shocks with remote reservoirs and compression adjustability. It is also equipped with Rancho steering stabilizers, and an adjustable Moog track bar designed to reduce body roll and sway when you head well off the beaten path.

The vehicle stands on brushed black 20x10-in. 4Play 4P70 wheels wrapped with super-aggressive 37x12.5-in. Maxxis Razr MT mud terrain tires. The Razr MT was engineered with know-how gained from Maxxis' involvement in off-road racing, featuring an off-road compound with new chemical fillers for maximum tear and chip resistance as well as tread life. The innovative armor sidewall design maximizes sidewall traction and puncture resistance, and the new dual-core body-ply technology packs additional casing strength for superior durability and toughness.

To stop this behemoth, Desert Power Wagons installed Wilwood Tactical Extreme TX6R™ Big Brakes front and rear, with radial-mounted six-piston calipers, massive 16-in. GT-60 directional-vane Spec-37 alloy rotors and braided stainless steel lines to deliver consistent stopping power and extreme-duty durability under sustained high heat for the ultimate in braking performance.

The all-new body was expertly finished at the company's in-house body and paint facility. At the front end, the vehicle showcases the distinctive vertical grille and radiator surround above the unmistakable bumperettes, giving way to the flowing front fenders with teardrop headlights and signature wide running boards. For modern and precise illumination, LED headlamps have been fitted, as well as a pair of Rigid Industries 3x3-in. LED reverse lights.

The cockpit is complete with distressed "Pinecone" leather upholstered heated front sport seats, a three-passenger rear seat with matching upholstery, and a luxurious charcoal Alcantara headliner. Behind the GT Performance GT-9 Retro Cobra wooden steering wheel mounted on the Ididit tilt steering column, you'll find an impressive, tastefully upgraded driver command center at the heart of the classic Power Wagon dash.

Modern Dakota Digital RTX gauges relay all of the vehicle's vital information to the driver while paying homage to the classic, vintage appearance. Climate control is handled via a Vintage Air Gen II heating, air conditioning, and defrost system distributed through brushed aluminum Vintage Air ProLine Venturi louvers for year-round comfort.

The state-of-the-art infotainment system includes an Atoto S8 Android-based 7-in. HD capacitive touch-screen head unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual Bluetooth, a built-in Digital Signal Processor, and GPS navigation. The audio experience is enhanced by a rich-sounding Rockford Fosgate speaker array including a Rockford Fosgate Punch P3S 8" dual voice coil subwoofer, backed by a Kenwood eXcelon X802-5 five-channel, Class-D 1600 watt amplifier with a Kenwood KCA-RC01A wired remote subwoofer level controller. The fully integrated, high-definition Atoto AC-HD03LR 360-degree bird's-eye view camera, combined with a wide-angle front-view camera, ensures that reversing and maneuvering in tight parking lots are a breeze.
