leading up to the Show, November 1–4, in Las Vegas. This week's
spotlight is on the Mobile Electronics & Technology section, which is located in the North Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center, near the Restyling & Car Care Accessories section and next to the Business Services section.
The Mobile Electronics & Technology section of the SEMA Show features companies that manufacture the latest in navigation systems, MP3 players, rear-mounted cameras, satellite TV/radio, DVD players, security systems and more, as well as products that seamlessly integrate mobile electronics into vehicles. Mobile electronic enthusiasts demand the latest in component compatibility, quality and user interface, and the market offers products that add personal utility, safety and convenience to varying types of drivers, such as daily commuters, soccer moms and families on road trips.

While the mainstream market for mobile electronics and accessories has shifted toward navigation systems and iPod and MP3 integration, the market's enthusiasts still crave more power and enhanced capabilities from their speakers. After two years of decline, manufacturer sales for amplifiers and speakers rebounded slightly in 2010 to reach $426.50 million, which is a 6% increase when compared with 2009 sales.
One segment of the market that continues to show a steady increase in manufacturer sales is in cellular phones/iPods/MP3 players/PDA docks and accessories. According to SEMA research, sales for the product category increased nearly 18% from 2009 to hit $556.50 million in 2010. Steady growth also continues for video/entertainment/navigation system products, which pulled in $1.1 billion in manufacturer sales in 2010, an increase of 19% when compared with 2009. In fact, the sales for video entertainment and navigation systems has experienced steady growth since 2006, when manufacturer sales hit $500.30 million.
Another increase that is significant for the market and exhibitors of the 2011 SEMA Show is the increased buyer interest for the segment and its products. For the 2011 Show, the number of unique buyers indicating an interest in the mobile electronics segment is 2,874—a 50.55% increase compared to the same period of time for the 2010 Show.
For the 2011 Show, the percentage of companies exhibiting in the Mobile Electronics & Technology section has increased by 17% when compared with 2010, and the section itself has grown in square footage by 9%. The expansion includes Pioneer Electronics, the latest mobile electronic powerhouse to participate in the Show, who joins current exhibitors that include Accele Electronics, CWR Electronics, KICKER, Metra Electronics, Rosen Entertainment Systems, Scosche Industries, VizuaLogic among others.
