California Legacy License Plates are available for pre-order.

As you may be aware, legislation was enacted in 2012 to establish the California Legacy License Plate Program. The plates are available for pre-order using the California Legacy License Plate Pre-Order Form (REG 17L). The plates cost $50 for non-personalized or personalized plates.

Consumers may choose from one of three classic designs from the ’50s–’60s. However, the law only allows until January 1, 2015, to reach the required minimum 7,500 pre-orders for any one of the plate styles. Currently, only one of the plates (yellow lettering on black background) has reached the required number of applications.

  • Black lettering on yellow background: 2,158 applications received
  • Yellow lettering on black background: 10,931 applications received
  • Yellow lettering on blue background: 1,745 applications received

If 7,500 applications are not received by January 1, 2015, for the plate of your choice, any fees paid for the California Legacy plates will be refunded to the applicant.

  keynote
The Keynote & Coffee series will begin at 9:00 a.m. each morning of the SEMA Show.

An exciting, new component of the 2014 SEMA Show is the Keynote & Coffee series, where industry leaders will kick off each morning with advice on how to remain competitive in a fast-moving environment. Along with the heady insights, Showgoers will enjoy free coffee to start the day. So plan to make these sessions—which begin at 9:00 a.m. each morning in the Las Vegas Convention Center, upper North Hall N25—a regular stop on your SEMA Show mornings.

Mike Michalowicz, one-time winner of the Small Business Administration’s Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award, will launch the Keynote & Coffee series Monday at 9:00 a.m. with his session, “The Pumpkin Plan: A Simple Strategy for Growing a Remarkable Business in Any Field.”

Having started and sold his second multi-million-dollar business at the age of 35, Michalowicz believes certain farmers have some important lessons to teach entrepreneurs. He's not talking about your everyday farmers, though; rather the "county-fair geeks" who grow one-ton pumpkins. They know something about explosive growth, and Michalowicz will show participants how to apply what they do directly to their business.

Start your Tuesday with a cup of coffee and Garry Golden, who will present “Tapping Your Inner Futurist: The Future of Transportation and Mobility.” Golden is an academically trained futurist who speaks, writes and consults frequently on issues shaping society and business in the 21st century.

The SEMA Show floor annually features exhibitors demonstrating connected devices and intelligent systems that nobody dreamed could have exist just a year earlier. Golden says some of those products will be oversold in the short term, and others will accurately reflect the fast speed of change in the automotive industry. But which is which? In this session, Golden will offer some advice to business leaders on how they can manage expectations and find the real value in a future shaped by both incremental and disruptive changes.

SEMA Show Education Days will feature more than 60 educational sessions in 12 different tracks, ranging from new-vehicle technology to best business practices to marketing strategies and emerging trends in the industry. To see the complete schedule of SEMA Show Education courses and pre-register, visit www.SEMAShow.com/education.

 SEMA Show Daily
The SEMA Show Daily is the only official publication of the SEMA Show and the only publication with exclusive rights to distribute at the SEMA Show.

While SEMA Show management believes it's important to only communicate constructive information to help exhibitors prepare for the 2014 SEMA Show, it has come to the Association’s attention that at least one company is aggressively soliciting SEMA exhibitors to advertise in what they refer to as an official publication of the SEMA Show called Aftermarket Daily News. The publication may also say that it is affiliated with the AAPEX Show. In fact, neither is true; only SEMA Show Daily has exclusive rights to distribute at the SEMA Show.

Exhibitors should take this notification as a reminder to be cautious of all companies that contact a business unsolicited. It is possible that the products offered may not be delivered on the terms that are stated verbally, or not delivered at all, and the purveyors operate using business models that make legal recourse difficult or impossible.

The official and authorized contractors of the SEMA Show are viewable in the Exhibitor Services Manual. Official authorized contractors are restricted as to the means by which they may contact exhibitors. SEMA Show management has posted a Solicitations Warning in the Exhibitor Services Manual that details scams similar to the one addressed here.

Exhibitors who have concerns when contacted by vendors who represent themselves using SEMA’s name, are encouraged to contact Show Management at 909-978-6694 or e-mail tomg@sema.org.
