As of June 2015, new government regulations took effect to help restore what has commonly become known as net neutrality—or equal access to the Internet.

As of June 2015, telecommunications and cable companies were knocked back on their heels when new government regulations took effect prohibiting those companies from allowing some company websites to download faster than others. The move restores what has commonly become known as net neutrality—or equal access to the Internet.

For businesses, the new rules issued by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) ensure that their competitors cannot cut special deals with telcos and cable companies to give preferential download treatment to their websites and web properties. Put another way: A giant company that uses a lot of video to promote its brand can no longer cut a deal with a broadband provider to ensure that its video downloads quicker than, say, the promotional video a much smaller company uploads
to YouTube.

West Virginia Governor Earl Ray Tomblin issued a proclamation designating July 10, 2015, as Collector Car Appreciation Day in the state. The SEMA Action Network (SAN) announced this date to mark the sixth commemoration in what has become an annual event to raise awareness of the vital role automotive restoration and collection plays in American society. Earlier this year, the U.S. Senate passed Senate Resolution 196 (S. Res. 196) at the SAN’s request designating July 10, 2015, as Collector Car Appreciation Day nationwide.

In the previous five years, thousands of enthusiasts in the United States and Canada have gathered at car cruises, parades and other events to celebrate our nation’s automotive heritage. Individuals, car clubs and business owners have been registering their gatherings for inclusion on the SAN website. However you choose, please pay tribute to our hobby’s special day by holding or attending a celebration near you. Encourage others to follow suit. Let’s get those cars and trucks out of the garage and onto the road!

Please submit the details of your celebration. For questions, contact SAN Director Colby Martin at 909-978-6721 or san@sema.org. You may also download the official logo and flyer from the SAN homepage and help promote this special day.
