SEMA Show exhibitors are encouraged to take a few minutes to review their company information that will appear in the 2014 SEMA Show Directory. The deadline to ensure that exhibitor information is listed accurately for Show buyers and media is Friday, August 29.

Since the submission of their online Exhibit Space Rental Agreement, exhibitors may have company information that needs to be updated, or has changed completely. While verifying the information, exhibitors should pay particular attention to applicable product categories. Only an exhibitor’s product category will be included in the printed 2014 SEMA Show Directory.

Post-Show data provided by SEMA Show management reveals that 51% of buyers are influenced to meet with a company because of the directory, and it is one of the top sources that influences buyers to visit an exhibitor. Also, 63% say the directory is a useful tool for helping them navigate the Show.

The deadline for changes to the printed publication is Friday, August 29. Any changes made after the deadline will appear on the online floorplan only.

TORA Members Gain Exposure at New Product Showcase

Dozens of Truck and Off-Road Alliance (TORA) members once again participated in the promotional opportunities available at the fifth annual New Products Showcase and stock-to-show truck build by RV 4 Wheel Drive & Performance Automotive at the Carlisle All-Truck Nationals, August 1–3, 2014. The Carlisle, Pennsylvania, event hosts one of the largest gatherings of truck enthusiasts in the country. In addition to hands-on exposure in front of this crowd, each product entered in the showcase was professionally photographed, for use at www.sema.org/TORA and the TORA SEMA Show events. Display Your Truck or Jeep at the SEMA Show

At this year’s SEMA Show, the TORA will display several vehicles in premier spots on the Promenade outside the South Hall Entrance of the Las Vegas Convention Center. Each day, attendees will be welcomed by this selection of impressive vehicles to promote the mission and membership benefits of the council. The vast majority of Show buyers and attendees come to the trucks, SUVs and off-road area through this entrance, giving the vehicles maximum exposure.

TORA members are invited to submit an application and photo or rendering of their vehicle for display consideration. The full criteria for the feature vehicles is outlined on the application. Applications will be accepted online through September 5, 2014, and applicants will be notified of their vehicle's status by September 19, 2014. MPMC Media Trade Conference Manufacturer Registration Now Open

The Motorsports Parts Manufacturers Council (MPMC) Media Trade Conference is a truly unique event that brings together editorial staff from all over the world with racing and high-performance parts manufacturers for three days of face-to-face, 30-minute meetings. Nowhere else does a manufacturer have the opportunity to meet with automotive editors in as many as 42 in-person meetings.

Exhibitor Registration for the 2015 MPMC Media Trade Conference is open now through September 5, 2014. Only 100 spots are available, and participants will be chosen using a random number lottery system. Manufacturers who submitted an application but were not selected for the 2014 event are automatically guaranteed a spot in the 2015 event if they submit a new application by the deadline of September 5, 2014. Exhibitor selection is available only for MPMC-member companies.

SEMA Launch Pad Competitors Announced

From a large pool of competitors, the top 10 young automotive entrepreneurs have been named in the second-annual SEMA Launch Pad Presented by YEN competition.

Representing new innovative products and services in the specialty-automotive aftermarket, these next-gen automotive leaders are looking for a big break to launch their business to the next level.

In this next step of the competition, you can decide the fate of the top five competitors who will advance to a live competition at the SEMA Show. Watch their short business pitches on YouTube and vote today.

Your vote will decide the five competitors who will pitch their business to a celebrity judging panel at the SEMA Show, including automotive industry juggernauts Doug Evans, Ron Coleman, Jessi Combs, Mark Arcenal and Glenn Rogers. The winner will receive a grand prize to propel their venture forward.

Voting ends September 5, with the live on-stage competition occurring November 5, from 11:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m. in the SEMA Show Super Session Room N258 (second floor, North Hall). Lunch will be provided to the first 125 attendees.

Even though the majority of buyer orders take place in the weeks following the Show, a growing trend is for more business deals to be conducted on-site. SEMA research reveals that 45% of buyers in 2013 placed an order at the show, up from 40% in 2012.

SEMA research also indicates that buyers are increasingly eager to take advantage of deals at the Show. Even though only 38% of exhibitors offered a Show discount, 76% of buyers report taking advantage of SEMA Show specials or discounts during the Show.

Even though the majority of buyer orders take place in the weeks following the Show, a growing trend is for more business deals to be conducted on-site. SEMA research reveals that 45% of buyers in 2013 placed an order at the show, up from 40% in 2012.

SEMA research also indicates that buyers are increasingly eager to take advantage of deals at the Show. Even though only 38% of exhibitors offered a Show discount, 76% of buyers report taking advantage of SEMA Show specials or discounts during the Show.

In 2013, sales of automotive specialty-equipment products reached $33 billion—a 6.7% increase over the previous year, according to the 2014 SEMA Annual Market Report. The figure represents the fourth consecutive year of growth.

“The report indicates that the marketplace has continued to move in a positive direction overall,” said Chris Kersting, SEMA president and CEO. “This research suggests that the industry made smart, timely moves during the recession, and that those moves have paid off for many companies. Specifically in 2013, the specialty-equipment market produced the highest growth since the recent recession.”

The automotive specialty-equipment market began to see an upswing in 2010, when sales totaled to $28.60 billion—a 2% increase over the previous year. Sales reached $29.99 billion the following year, representing a growth of 5% over 2010. Sales in 2012 reached $31 billion—a 4% increase from the previous year.

Again, the growth in 2013 is largely attributed to a growth in the street-performance niche. Accounting for 26% of sales with $8.72 billion, the street-performance niche represents the largest niche in the industry.

“The renewed focus on performance models by the OEMs has helped drive interest in this segment,” Kersting said. “New models, such as the Scion FR-S; redesigns, including the ’15 Mustang; and high-performance packages, such as the Hellcat Challenger, have inspired the industry and consumer alike to aim for increased performance.”

Also noteworthy in the study is the light-truck market, which continues to rebound with 8% growth in 2013—the market's best sales year since 2007. New truck sales continue to climb amid anticipation for major redesigns to several flagship pickups.

“We see the 2014 SEMA Show shaping up to be the biggest yet as industry optimism continues to build,” Kersting said. “Attendance is trending upward, and buyers will see more exhibitors and products than ever on the Show floor. New this year is SEMA Ignited, a special consumer and media attraction on Friday night after the Show. SEMA Ignited meshes with other consumer-facing association projects, all part of a long-term plan to enhance awareness of specialty products.”
