The Save the Salt Coalition is promoting Century of Speed—a comprehensive history of racing at the Bonneville Salt Flats.

Visit the Save the Salt Booth in the Central Hall (#24099) of the 2015 SEMA Show to see the new Speed Demon. Seeking to compete for the world’s fastest piston-powered car at the Bonneville Salt Flats (BSF), the new vehicle incorporates the industry’s latest technology. Attendees will be able to look under the hood and inspect the newest engine management, safety and aerodynamic engineering that enables vehicles, such as the Speed Demon, to challenge land-speed records.

Deteriorating conditions and wet weather at the BSF forced cancellation of most of this year’s racing events, including Speed Week, where hundreds of teams race every type of vehicle, from hot rods and belly tankers to motorcycles and streamliners. SEMA, along with other organizations and companies comprising the Save the Salt Coalition, is working closely with federal and state government officials and the adjoining potash mine owner, to pursue short- and long-term solutions for restoring the BSF.

To help finance the effort, the Coalition is promoting Century of Speed—a comprehensive history of racing at the flats. A second printing, containing 26 extra pages, will be available at the SEMA Show’s Save the Salt booth.

The Lancer Evolution Final Edition is based on the current GSR model, with exterior and interior enhancements not previously offered on the GSR.

Mitsubishi Motors North America Inc. (MMNA) announced this week the details of the limited-production ’15 Lancer Evolution Final Edition. Arguably the originator of the four-door sports car genre, the Lancer Evolution has seen 10 generations—three of which were sold in the United States over 12 years. To send it off in style, Mitsubishi Motors will offer 1,600 numbered Final-Edition models to the U.S. market with an MSRP of $37,995.

The Lancer Evolution Final Edition is based on the current GSR model, with exterior and interior enhancements not previously offered on the vehicle. The heart of the Final Edition is a five-speed transmission paired with a turbocharged and intercooled DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder 2.0L engine, producing 303 hp at 6,500 rpm and 305 lb.-ft. torque at 4,000 rpm. Performance is further enhanced by use of lightweight two-piece Brembo brake rotors up front, accompanied by Bilstein shock absorbers and Eibach springs at all four corners. As with all ’15 Lancer Evolutions, the Final-Edition model features Mitsubishi's Super All-Wheel control system.

The Final-Edition model receives exterior upgrades, including a Final-Edition badge in the rear, a black painted aluminum roof, dark chrome painted Enkei alloy wheels, a black center bumper and hood air outlet and a dark chrome front grille surround. Final-Edition models will be offered in four colors: new Pearl White, Rally Red, Mercury Gray and Octane Blue.

Inside, a numbered plaque on the center console denotes each of the 1,600 units created. In addition, Final-Edition models receive a black headliner, pillars, sun visors and assist handles, and red accent stitching for sport seats, the steering wheel, shift knob, console lid, floormats and e-brake handle.

"With its incredible combination of power, agility and Super All-Wheel Control, the Lancer Evolution is one of the most well-known sports sedans and is revered by 'gearheads' around the globe," said MMNA Executive Vice President Don Swearingen. "The Final-Edition model pays homage to Evo's remarkable place in automotive history and takes it one step further as the most powerful mass-production Lancer Evolution ever built."

While almost half of all buyers placed orders at the 2014 SEMA Show, nearly 90% also had plans to make purchases from exhibitors after the Show, and many buyers said that they were researching for future purchases rather than planning to make a purchase at the event. Yet many exhibitors lose out on that business because they either don’t properly collect lead information or don’t follow up with quality leads following the Show.

Exhibitors invest in the SEMA Show primarily to attract retail buyers. But it’s obviously not just talking to people at the event itself that produces product sales throughout the year. The process of generating and following up with leads should actually begin long before the doors open at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
