The auto hobby's "holiday" is finally here! Recently, the U.S. Senate passed Senate Resolution 493 (S. Res. 493) at SEMA’s request designating this Friday, July 11, 2014, as "Collector Car Appreciation Day (CCAD)." As a result, thousands of enthusiasts and related businesses throughout the country will celebrate the worldwide event for the fifth consecutive year. Hopefully, you are planning to take part in your own way. 
 
Through a video Public Service Announcement, media personality Courtney Hansen is promoting the celebration once again. A lifelong "gearhead," Hansen is well known for television roles that have included host of "Overhaulin'," Spike TV's "Powerblock" and Velocity Television Network's "Vinsetta Garage." Featuring her own ’57 Ford Thunderbird, this video may be posted by everyone using the following link: http://youtu.be/j4CgY04mD-0.

SEMA Members Industrywide Encouraged to Host Collector Car Appreciation Day Events

Collector Car Appreciation Day (CCAD) will return for its fifth commemoration, July 11, and SEMA-member companies are encouraged to recognize this annual celebration by hosting their own events. At the request of the SEMA Action Network (SAN), this “holiday” has been marked each year since 2010 by a U.S. Senate Resolution.

Intended to celebrate the classics of the past and the future, these events can be as simple as encouraging staff members to drive their special ride to work. Other ideas include hosting a community car show, staging an open house or promoting a “holiday sale” in honor of CCAD. Members can partner with local car clubs, community groups and other automotive businesses. Invite your local legislators to participate as well. The SAN can help with identifying these legislators and locating car clubs and museums near you.

Whether public or private, register your July gathering to take advantage of promotional support from SEMA. Participating organizers will receive a copy of the year’s U.S. Senate Resolution for display at each registered event.

Carlisle Truck Nationals Give Platform for Free Product Promotion

For the fifth year, accessory manufacturers for light trucks, Jeeps, off-road vehicles and SUVs are invited to display new products at the Carlisle Truck Nationals, August 1–3.

The TORA New Products Showcase provides council members with a platform to promote their new products to one of the largest groups of truck enthusiasts in the country. The products are housed in the TORA tent, where attendees can view the descriptions and inquire about purchase options from 8:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m. each day. The accessories are also professionally photographed for use with descriptions on www.sema.org, and presentations at the TORA booth and awards reception at the SEMA Show.

All of this exposure is available to TORA members for only the cost of shipping the products to Carlisle Events. Register today to save a place for your product.

Brainstorm Solutions to Your Pressing Business Challenges

Leaders of the light-truck, off-road, Jeep, diesel and SUV industries will meet July 16 for an industry discussion and TORA Long-Range Planning meeting. Members of the council and those who are interested in learning more about the benefits it offers are invited to attend from 9:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.

The meeting will take place at the SEMA Garage–Industry Innovations Center in Diamond Bar, California. Attendees will spend time discussing issues they face in their business, and developing strategies that SEMA and the TORA can use to address them. For member companies, participating is a chance to let the association know in person what challenges their businesses face, and to be a part of the solutions. Lunch will be served with an opportunity to network with members of the Professional Restylers Organization (PRO).

For those who can’t make the trip to Southern California, sessions can be attended through web meeting services and teleconference lines.

Dodge has announced its project vehicle program for 2014. This program offers companies the opportunity to get a jump start on the competition by securing one of the new ’15-MY Challengers in advance of market availability. The upcoming launch of Scat Pack and Shaker heritage models provides an opportunity to stand out in a competitive market. The automaker requests that project-vehicle proposals be submitted per the criteria outlined below.

Proposal Submission Deadline: August 1, 2014
Award Recipient Notification Date: by August 22, 2014

All project vehicle requests must be submitted and meet the following Dodge Project Vehicle Program criteria:

• E-mail a one-page project summary—must be received by August 1, 2014. Include bullet points for:
• Vehicle Theme: Describe very clearly your overall build theme, target audience, etc.
• Proposed vehicle modifications
• New products potentially being developed for the Challenger through the project
• Promotional, media and social media outreach plan prior to and beyond the SEMA Show, such as:
• Tour of events (location and dates)
• Specific magazine feature articles
• Online promotion
• Company advertising featuring the vehicle
• Additional exposure
• Examples of previous project vehicles and promotional activities by the applicant
• Detailed renderings of the proposed vehicle in .jpg format
• Vehicle display location at the 2014 SEMA Show

Requirements:

• Preservation of vehicle badging, not to be painted
• High level of paint and build quality; no wraps
• Commit to periodic design and build check-ins
• Retain vehicle insurance totaling at least $3 million until the completion of the two-year contract.
• Order a California-certified vehicle if you intend to register or use the vehicle primarily in California or any other state that has adopted California emissions standards. Failure to do so may subject you to a state fine.
• Be financially and technically capable of building a one-off show car without financial or parts support from Dodge.
• Be willing to partner with other non-competing aftermarket companies or enthusiast publications to enhance the vehicle project.
• A history of active promotion of vehicle projects with an established marketing plan.
• Commit to creating bi-weekly progress reports during the vehicle build process and product development, including photos, video and commentary.
• Grant Dodge the right to use content from the bi-weekly progress reports and assist Dodge in acquiring usage rights from any sponsors or individuals whose logos or images might appear in that content.
• Commit to make the vehicle available to Dodge or its dealers, if requested, for additional shows and exhibits for a minimum of two years from the initial delivery date.
• Commit to provide quarterly reports to Dodge regarding media coverage and event activity for the project vehicle for a minimum of two years from the initial delivery date.
