SEMA News—September 2011

International Reporters Demonstrate World-Wide Interest in the SEMA Show

The SEMA Show attracts professionals from more than 100 countries, including many journalists who come to the SEMA Show to discover new products and trends. While enthusiasts in different countries may be interested in different segments of the industry, they all look to the United States for the hottest and coolest products. For manufacturers in the United States, this opens endless opportunities to grow their markets and export products internationally. To get an idea of the possibilities, take a look at some of the international media coverage that resulted from the 2010 SEMA Show.

Trocas

V8 Muscle Cars

Another publication from Mexico, V8 Muscle Cars included nearly 40 full pages of coverage from the 2010 SEMA Show.

Autozulia Internacional

Journalist Henry Pierini traveled from Venezuela to cover the SEMA Show for Autozulia Internacional. The result was pages filled with photos of amazing project vehicles and coverage of the reporter’s picks for best new products.

AutoMotivo

Brazilian reporter Fabio Codellos has been attending the SEMA Show for several years. In 2010, he captured nearly a dozen pages of highlights from the Show to share with his readers at home.

signs
Hanging signs help to increase your booth's visibility, but be sure they are in compliance with the SEMA Show Exhibit Display Regulations.

To ensure all hanging signs are in compliance with the SEMA Show Exhibit Display Regulations, every exhibitor hanging a sign above their booth is required to complete the online form, located at www.SEMAShow.com under the "Exhibitor Manual" tab by September 9. Show management will make every effort to provide each exhibitor an e-mail confirmation of its approval or disapproval within five business days of submitting a notification.

In addition to the information listed in the form, exhibitors hanging a sign above their booth must submit a rendering or digital photo of the sign showing all graphics, placement in the booth and the sign's dimensions, including its width and height or circumference. Exhibits that qualify to have a hanging sign are:

  • Perimeter Linear Exhibits
  • Peninsula Exhibits
  • Island Exhibits

Hanging signs may be hung at any height; however, the sign itself can be no more than 8 ft. in height from top to bottom and must be finished on all sides. Signs, lettering or graphics facing a neighboring exhibit must be located at least 10 ft. from the neighboring exhibit.

Hanging signs above Perimeter Linear exhibits may not be higher than 12 ft. from the ground, must be flat and set back 5 ft. from the aisle in front of the exhibit. All other linear exhibits are not permitted hanging signs. See Exhibit Display Regulations for more information.

WD-40 Company is partnering with hot-rod designer and TV star Chip Foose to design and manage the build of this year’s WD-40/SEMA Cares project vehicle.

After raising nearly $300,000 for children’s charities with its two previous charity vehicle builds, WD-40 Co. is partnering with hot-rod designer and TV star Chip Foose to design and manage the build of this year’s WD-40/SEMA Cares project vehicle.

The vehicle, which will be unveiled at the 2011 SEMA Show, will appear at select West Coast auto-related events and then be auctioned off at the Barrett-Jackson Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona, January 21, 2012. Proceeds from the vehicle's sale will go to the Childhelp and Victory Junction children’s charities.

“You’ve seen the Camaro and the Mustang with those beautiful WD-40 brand colors, and this year we’re going to build something that will turn even more heads,” Foose said. “I can’t wait to build it, drive it and then auction it off for a great cause at Barrett-Jackson.”

This is the third consecutive year WD-40 Co. has partnered with SEMA Cares—SEMA's charity arm—to build a custom vehicle for charity. In 2009, the WD-40/SEMA Cares Camaro raised $75,000 for Childhelp and Victory Junction and last year the WD-40/SEMA Cares Mustang raised more than $200,000 for those same charities. Foose is partnering with a number of automotive aftermarket and technology companies, which will donate parts, equipment and services to give the vehicle exceptional performance and a distinctive Foose design.

“We really want to build off of the success of the last two years, and partnering with someone like Chip, who’s the best in the business and has used our product all his life, was a great way to do that,“ said Tim Lesmeister, vice president of marketing at WD-40 Co. “We hope this year’s vehicle honors automotive professionals and enthusiasts who use the WD-40 multi-use product to get the job done.”

To minimize issues onsite with Exhibit Display Regulations compliance, exhibitors having 400 sq. ft. or more of exhibit space must submit the Exhibit Space Design Notification by September 9. This application requires each exhibitor to detail the elements of the booth, including the dimensions, such as length, width and height. Included in the online form, available at www.SEMAShow.com, is the capability to attach photos, a rendering or a hand drawing of the booth, or schematics from the booth’s designers, which will simplify the need to detail in writing any specific booth elements.

Show management will use its best efforts to provide each exhibitor with an e-mail approving or disapproving the booth design within five business days of submitting the Exhibit Space Design Notification.
All multilevel (double-deck) booths must provide a copy of the architect/engineering drawing that has a stamp of approval from a certified structural engineer at least 60 days before the Show.

Exhibitors must complete the Exhibit Space Design Notification even if they submitted the rendering and information for past Shows. See the Exhibit Display Regulations (pdf) and Exhibitor Rules & Regulations (pdf) for more information for multi-level, covered and enclosed exhibits.
Exhibits with upper decks, covered or roofed areas exceeding 300 sq. ft. in size require the installation of battery-operated smoke detectors.
Contact your account executive if you have any further questions.

For assistance, call Jeff Pressman at 702/450-7662, ext. 105, or e-mail jpressman@ConvExx.com.
