The 2012 Shine Award was presented to Dave and Karen Leisinger of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, for their ’71 Chevrolet Camaro named "ProfeSSor."

The 2012 Shine Award was presented to Dave and Karen Leisinger of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, for their ’71 Chevrolet Camaro named "ProfeSSor." This sleek, PPG Porsche Silver Camaro was so named because its 500ci Chevy LSX engine was built by drag-racing legend Warren "The Professor" Johnson. The rest of the drivetrain is hung on an Art Morrison chassis with C5 Corvette front suspension and a Ford 9-in. rearend with a Watts Link. But it is the innumerable body mods that set this ’71 apart, such as the widened, wedge cut and leaned-forward front end, laid-back windshield, chopped roof, extended rockers, widened quarter panels, raised deck and custom taillight panel and rear valance. Roger Burman at Lakeside Rods and Rides in Rockwell City, Iowa, built "ProfeSSor" in 16 months before putting it on display in the Dakota Digital at the SEMA Show.

For the 12th annual Shine Award, the crop of contenders came from no less than hundreds of the world's premier cars on display at the most anticipated aftermarket industry event of the year. An international panel of respected members of the automotive world, including seasoned builders, paint specialists, journalists and previous Shine Award recipients, were tasked with selecting a winner. Judging was based on overall appearance, fit and finish, attention to detail, integration of custom and stock elements, creative vision and execution of concept.

Hosting the ceremony this year, held at the Mothers Polish booth, were aftermarket industry veterans Joe Sebergandio and Will Handzel.

Time is running out to place a bid on a small-block Chevrolet V8 built by Ed Pink available for auction through eBay. Proceeds from the sale of the engine benefits the SEMA Memorial Scholarship Fund. The auction ends on Sunday, November 11.

A small-block Chevrolet motor, to be custom-built to the needs of the buyer by noted engine builder Ed “The Old Master” Pink, is currently being auctioned on eBay. Proceeds from the sale benefit the SEMA Memorial Scholarship Fund (SMSF), which provides help for young people who seek a career in the automotive industry.

The auction ends on Sunday, November 11, and there’s still time left to purchase this one-of-a-kind engine and support the education of the future leaders of the specialty-equipment industry. To place a bid or to find out more about the engine, visit www.SEMA.org/auctions.

The engine is based on a Dart SHP block and Dart SHP aluminum cylinder heads, topped off by a Holley “Stealth Ram” EFI. The buyer will be able to select the engine displacement, compression, camshaft and valvetrain specs, etc., using myriad products manufactured by Comp Cams, Mahle, Scat, Total Seal and Manley. A total of 20 SEMA-member companies contributed their expertise to the build, as has Ed Pink Racing Engines.

Other “goodies” include an ATI Super Damper, FAST billet distributor, PowerMaster starter and alternator, March pulleys, Milodon pan and oil pump, Joe Gibbs Driven lubricants, Edelbrock water pump and front cover, Moroso plug wires Champion spark plugs, Clevite bearings, Fel-Pro gaskets and Hedman hedders. ARP fasteners are used throughout.

This is not just an engine sale. The winning bidder will also get a trip to the PRI Show in Orlando, Florida (includes airfare, lodging, credentials, etc.), where they will meet with representatives of Ed Pink Racing Engines and finalize the specifications. Following this, the selected components will be balanced and blueprinted, the build completed and the engine dyno-tested at Pink’s Van Nuys, California, power emporium.

The SMSF is a 501(c)3 corporation, and the purchase price may be tax deductible as a charitable contribution (check with your accountant or tax preparer).
