Eleven industry professionals are vying for positions on the 2012–2015 SEMA Board of Directors.

The SEMA Board provides strategic direction to the association and plays a critical role in shaping the future of the automotive specialty-equipment industry. On May 8, election materials were mailed to the primary contacts at eligible SEMA-member companies.

The voting process is entirely electronic this year and will be ongoing from May 14, until voting closes on June 12. Election results will be published in an upcoming issue of SEMA News.

Framed by those tall velocity stacks is Bruce Crower, photographed late in 1966 for a Car Craft magazine article about his then-new fuel-injection systems for big-block Chevy engines. The air/horsepower equation in our title was the story’s title as well, referring to Crower’s “deep breathing” injectors. Unlike other injection systems on the market at the time, Crower’s injection manifold featured gaping intake ports that were nearly 3 inches wide. Those injector stacks could be mammoth, too—as tall as 14 inches, depending on the application.

Nominations for the SEMA Hall of Fame—the most prestigious honor presented to an individual by the association—are now being accepted. The deadline to submit nominations is March 16, 2012.

Created in 1969, the SEMA Hall of Fame is designed to honor outstanding persons in the industry who have enhanced the stature of, or significantly contributed to, the industry and/or the association’s growth.

The second annual SEMA Awards were presented at the 2011 SEMA Show, casting a light on the vehicle models that are most accessory friendly and customizable. The prestigious honors were determined by the vehicle models that exhibitors chose to display most often in their booths. The awards were presented in various categories, including car, truck, 4x4-SUV and, for the first time, sport compact. Recognizing the unique ability that Show exhibitors have to determine trends and influence buying behavior, media took notice and reported on the vehicles that the exhibitors selected.
