Dodge Ram Show Floor

SEMA Show exhibitors: Generate more buzz for your company and its products at the 2009 SEMA Show by offering products to builders through the SEMA Products for Project-Vehicle Builders list.

From now until just days before the annual Show, the latest additions to this list are made available through SEMA eNews. Hundreds of builders access the list, looking for the pieces that add extra flair to their builds. Product placement opportunities such as this are so beneficial that many exhibitors offer products for free or at a greatly reduced rate.

To place your product on the list, send your company name, a brief product description, contact information and a website where the products can be viewed to eNews@sema.org and put “Product List” in the e-mail subject line.

Remember, builders will contact you directly, so make sure your contact information is accurate. New submissions will be included every week.

View all of the previous submissions on SEMAShow.com.

 Chrome Dome Joel Ayres
What Joel Ayres might look like at the SEMA Installaton Banquet & Gala Fundraiser if the industry can raise $5,000 by Friday.

SEMA Cares Committee Chairman Joel Ayres has a habit of making promises when it comes to his support of charities. This time, the benefits will extend beyond the donations.

In an “I dare you” conversation, Ayres has committed to shaving his head for the SEMA Installation Banquet & Gala Fundraiser, August 1, in Pasadena, California, in exchange for $5,000 in donations to the SEMA Cares charities.

The Childhelp and Victory Junction Gang Camp charities have been the beneficiaries of Ayres' work for many years. Those who know him know of his strong dedication and commitment to children.

The SEMA Cares Committee, established by the SEMA Board of Directors in 2007, aims to bring the voice and resources of the SEMA community together to make a positive difference in the lives of others.

Ayres will shave his head after the SEMA Board of Directors meeting, Friday, July 31. A video documenting this "hair-raising" event will later be available at www.sema.org.

8x10 autographed “glossies” of Ayres “chrome dome” will also be available for all who donate $100 or more. For more information, contact Mike Spagnola.

SEMA’s monthly forecasting tool to determine consumer demand for industry products has been rebranded SEMA Consumer Demand Index for Performance Products and Accessories. Formerly called PADI, short for Performance and Accessories Demand Index, the new name seeks to clarify the intent and purpose of the program. Archived and future reports will still be available by searching Consumer Demand Index or PADI.

Consumer optimism: The June 2009 Consumer Demand Index indicates in increasing demand for SEMA industry products over the next 90 days.

Last month, 826 interviews were conducted nationwide via Random Digital Dial (RDD) telephone survey, resulting in a 14 point increase in the Consumer Demand Index level from the previous month. At 46, the Index is at its highest point since September 2008, and this is the second consecutive month demand has increased.

The Consumer Demand Index is a weighted composite index, set to an initial value of 100 based on consumer demand levels benchmarked between January and March 2007.

The SEMA Consumer Demand Index for Performance Products and Accessories measures purchase intentions of consumers (both enthusiast and mainstream) over the following 90 days. As enthusiasts represent approximately 10-15% of U.S. drivers, the Index is likely to be an indicator of mainstream consumer demand for automotive specialty and performance products.

INJURED: Formula One driver Felipe Massa and IndyCar Series driver Tony Kanaan each suffered injuries over the weekend. Massa was hit on the head by a spring from another car causing him to crash. He suffered serious head injuries and was in a medically induced coma for 48 hours, but was awake, alert and talking with family on Monday afternoon. Kanaan, meanwhile suffered burns on his hands and face when his car was engulfed in flames during a pit stop. Kanaan plans to race this weekend.

INVESTIGATED:
Former Grand Am driver Henri Zogaib is being investigated on charges he cheated investors including Grand Am and NASCAR drivers out of $5.4 million in what is being termed a Ponzi Scheme.

SHORT TRACKING: Honda Performance Development is planning to expand its racing presence into the grassroots motorsports market, developing products and services for amateur and entry-level professional competitors.

SWEET HOME ALABAMA: The Indy Racing League IndyCar Series will take its show to Alabama’s Barber Motorsports Park next April after opening the season on a street course in Brazil. While that race is new, it is apparent that Richmond International Raceway will not host a race for the series for the first time in many years. The full schedule is expected to be announced August 1.

SPONSOR HUNT:
Daytona 500 winner Matt Kenseth and his Roush Fenway Racing team are hunting a new sponsor after announcing DeWalt Tools will leave the team at the end of the season.

STILL ON TOP: Tony Stewart remained on top of the National Speed Sport News Power Rankings, which rates drivers from all auto-racing disciplines. However, NHRA Top Fuel driver Antron Brown jumped from sixth to second. The rankings appear weekly in America’s Motorsports Authority.
