As of November 14, 2011, businesses will be required to display a poster informing workers of their right to unionize and bargain collectively with the employer. The 11- x 17-in. notice is required under a rule issued by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) following an extensive rulemaking procedure. The poster can be downloaded for free from the NLRB website as of November 1.

The U.S. Department of Labor already requires companies to display workplace posters: DOL Posting Requirements. Topics include federal minimum wage, polygraph protection, OSHA-job safety rules, COBRA and family/medical leave rights. State agencies that regulate employers/workers may also have similar postings covering compensation, leave, job-safety and similar workplace issues. The postings are usually available at no cost from the agency or may be purchased from a commercial supplier.

For more information, contact Stuart Gosswein at stuartg@sema.org.

  Chrysler 300 Project Vehicle

The SEMA Show features thousands of project vehicles each year that represent the ingenuity and creativity of the specialty-equipment market. SEMA Show exhibitors can generate more product exposure by offering products to builders through the SEMA Show Products for Project-Vehicle Builders list. The list is a simple way to connect exhibitors who want to get more eyes on their products at the Show with builders designing the vehicles that attract attention from thousands of buyers and members of the media.

Each week SEMA eNews will feature the latest additions to the list, and hundreds of builders will access the list to find the pieces they need to complete their builds. Product-placement opportunities such as this are so beneficial that exhibitors often offer products for free or at a greatly reduced rate. Note: The list is reserved for exhibitors of the 2011 SEMA Show.

To place your product on the list, send your company name, a brief product description, contact information and a website where the products can be viewed to eNews@sema.org and put “Product List” in the e-mail subject line. To complete the process online, use this electronic form from the Exhibitor Manual.

Remember, builders will contact you directly, so make sure your contact information is accurate. New submissions will be included each week, when available.

For questions or additional information, contact Jason Catullo at jasonc@sema.org or 909/978-6713.

Only 1,000 hardbound numbered copies are available. There were 200 “Winner’s Circle” numbered editions produced, signed by Tom Madigan, Art Chrisman and publisher Ed Justice Jr. These are bound with a rich black cover with a copper foil imprint and show the three legendary Chrisman race cars. The additional 800 “Qualifier” copies (numbered 201–1,000) include a colorful dust jacket and an 8x10-in. black-and-white photo of the Hustler 1 dragster. The “Winner’s Circle” edition retails for $150 (plus shipping and insurance), and the “Qualifier” edition retails for $50 (plus shipping and insurance).

SEMA Show management created a new section for the 2011 SEMA Show, to be held Tuesday–Friday, November 1–4. It will be known as the First Time & Featured Exhibitors section and was created to support the industry’s commitment to the Show, demonstrating that the annual trade event is an important part of specialty-equipment companies’ business plans.

“We’re confident that a comprehensive collection of first-time and featured exhibitors is something that buyers will not want to miss,” said Peter MacGillivray, SEMA vice president of communications and events. “Participating exhibitors can expect to see and meet with thousands of buyers.”

The new First Time & Featured Exhibitors section will be located in the east end of the upper South Hall near Ideas Alive, the 2011 SEMA Show’s newly themed New Products Showcase, which is one of the major draws of the Show annually and is sure to bring a steady stream of buyers into the First Time & Featured Exhibitors section.

In addition to consistent foot traffic for exhibitors within the section, buyers will benefit from heavy first-time exhibitor participation and additional opportunities to discover new manufacturers and products that they may not have seen otherwise.
