One of the best opportunities for exhibitors to promote their SEMA Show debut is by sending press release materials into SEMA's publication department.

The key to a SEMA Show exhibitor's overall success is building excitement and exposure for new-product launches and project-vehicle premieres prior to the Show. One of the best opportunities for exhibitors to promote their SEMA Show debut is by sending press release materials to SEMA's publication department.

New Product Promotion

One of the pre-Show publications is SEMA's monthly magazine—SEMA News. Though it's published year-round, in the months leading up to the Show, it's an excellent resource for Show attendees. In fact, the October issue will focus specifically on new products to be unveiled at the 2012 SEMA Show.

To be included, simply e-mail Managing Editor Carr Winn a brief description of the product and include a high-resolution image in either tif, eps or jpeg format. The deadline to send materials for consideration is August 10, 2012. Please review the following PDF for details about the word count and image size required to be included in the new product sneak peek.

2012 SEMA Show Project Vehicles

To get extra visibility for your project vehicles at the Show, don’t miss the free opportunity to showcase your company’s 2012 SEMA Show creation in the November issue of SEMA News magazine! Entries for the popular “Vehicles of the Show” article are now being accepted.
To be included, e-mail Steve Campbell at stevec@sema.org with “2012 Feature Vehicle” in the subject line. Please include a high-resolution image in either tif, eps or jpeg format along with detailed information about the vehicle modifications.

For this article, entries must be received by September 7, 2012. For reference, here's a PDF highlighting the word count and image requirements necessary when completing your entry. Keep in mind that all vehicle modifications must be organized by category and that the most important detail in each submission is the contact information. This data is critical for our editorial team to contact you regarding your submission and for readers to use as a reference during the SEMA Show. Don’t wait until the last minute—ensure that your vehicle is included for free by sending your e-mail today.

For any questions about pre-Show coverage in SEMA News, please contact Carr Winn at carrw@sema.org.

Submission Policy: All submissions will be featured in pre-Show publications based on the order in which they were received on a first-come, first-served basis. In the event that the publications department receives more submissions than it can accommodate, the unpublished items will be placed on a waiting list and then included when and if additional space becomes available.

(L-R): Tim Lawrence, SkillsUSA executive director; John Wilson, Ohio Hi-Point Career Center instructor; Brett Bailey, SCRS national director; and Stacy Halliday, Air Products.

The Society of Collision Repair Specialists (SCRS) worked with SkillsUSA during a recent national competition, held in Kansas City between June 23–27 2012, to demonstrate the industry's support and encouragement to not only the student competitors, but also to the schools and advisors who have put so much time into preparing these future industry members.

As part of the support, SCRS awarded a headlining prize at the 100% Advisor Reception June 24. The prize package, donated by SCRS and SEMA, included an all-expenses-paid trip for both the winning advisor and student guest of their choice to attend the 2012 SEMA Show, two airline tickets, two hotel rooms and two passes to the SCRS Repairer Driven Education series. The winning advisor was John Wilson of Ohio Hi-Point Career Center in Springfield, Ohio.

"Supporting industry initiatives that develop a strongly rooted interest in the collision-repair and automotive field is an important part of our collaborative work with SCRS at the SEMA Show," said Peter MacGillivray, SEMA's vice president of communications and events. "We are glad to participate in this contribution and honored that the advisors were so genuinely excited to come see the amazing collision-repair environment that SCRS has developed with us. There are a world of opportunities in the industry for these students, and we are proud to know that they will be able to make all the contacts they need at the SEMA Show to develop a prosperous career in the industry."

In addition to the headling prize, all student competitors and sponsoring schools will receive a complimentary one-year membership to SCRS so that they can remain connected to the ongoing activities within the industry. The student competitors also were provided with T-shirts that were donated by SCRS and sponsored by PPG Automotive Refinish.

"SkillsUSA and career and technical education are about providing students with professional experiences," said Tim Lawrence, executive director of SkillsUSA. "This prize of a trip to the 2012 SEMA Show and SCRS Repairer Driven Education Program is an outstanding example of that kind of experience for both a student and an instructor. It's also a motivator to have more students think of a career in collision repair. That's good for the industry and the students."

After more than eight hours of driving and 317 miles on her odometer, Brenda Priddy was able to deliver these shots of the ’14 Chevrolet Silverado. The trip revealed a little more of the new Silverado's metal, and provides a look at a few of the configurations for 2014.

While she was unable to get a look under the hood, Priddy says that her sources expect a small-block V8 with better fuel economy and greater horsepower. While she is not certain, Priddy says the new Silverado appears to have a roomier interior than previous models.

The Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino and The Plaza Hotel & Casino have undergone extensive renovations and have been added to the official block for this year's Show.

SEMA—along with its official housing bureau, Travel Planners—has negotiated discounted hotel rates with several properties for this year's SEMA Show that have not been in the official block in a long time.

Many people know that downtown Las Vegas has numerous hotels that are consistently lower priced than hotels on the Strip. SEMA has partnered with two hotels downtown—the Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino and The Plaza Hotel & Casino, both of which have undergone extensive renovations and expansions in the last few years. The Golden Nugget is rated four diamonds by AAA and the Plaza just reopened after a year-long renovation to all new hotel rooms, restaurants and amenities. Rates start as low as $65 per night at the Golden Nugget with Show days $85 per night, and the Plaza is $65 for all nights of the Show.

With these new hotel partners, SEMA will provide complimentary shuttle service from Downtown Las Vegas to the Las Vegas Convention Center, further saving money and providing value to attendees and exhibitors coming to Las Vegas this year.

If you are looking for a new place to stay on the Strip this year, Mandalay Bay has joined the list of official partner hotels at a low rate of $80 per night on many nights and $110 per night during Show days. This includes all the benefits of the $25 resort fee, which will be waived if you book through SEMA’s official housing bureau, Travel Planners. SEMA will also provide complimentary shuttle service between Mandalay Bay and the Las Vegas Convention Center during the SEMA Show.

If you want to stay in a hotel within walking distance of the Las Vegas Convention Center, and casinos are not your thing, SEMA has added the Embassy Suites at the Las Vegas Convention Center to its list of partner hotels. The Embassy Suites is offering a discounted rate of $169 per night while supplies last. These will go fast, so book soon if you want to stay there.

SEMA and Travel Planners have worked hard to ensure your hotel accommodations are easy to make and affordable. If you ever have any questions, call Travel Planners directly at 800-221-3531. There are numerous travel agencies and brokers soliciting your business, yet SEMA does not approve or support any efforts by such companies. Travel Planners is the only authorized agent of the SEMA Show. All other agencies have no affiliation with SEMA whatsoever and reservations made through such companies will be at your own risk.
