The Society of Collision Repair Specialists (SCRS) worked with SkillsUSA during a recent national competition, held in Kansas City between June 23–27 2012, to demonstrate the industry's support and encouragement to not only the student competitors, but also to the schools and advisors who have put so much time into preparing these future industry members.
As part of the support, SCRS awarded a headlining prize at the 100% Advisor Reception June 24. The prize package, donated by SCRS and SEMA, included an all-expenses-paid trip for both the winning advisor and student guest of their choice to attend the 2012 SEMA Show, two airline tickets, two hotel rooms and two passes to the SCRS Repairer Driven Education series. The winning advisor was John Wilson of Ohio Hi-Point Career Center in Springfield, Ohio.
"Supporting industry initiatives that develop a strongly rooted interest
in the collision-repair and automotive field is an important part of
our collaborative work with SCRS at the SEMA Show," said Peter
MacGillivray, SEMA's vice president of communications and events. "We are glad to
participate in this contribution and honored that the advisors were so
genuinely excited to come see the amazing collision-repair environment
that SCRS has developed with us. There are a world of opportunities in
the industry for these students, and we are proud to know that they will
be able to make all the contacts they need at the SEMA Show to develop a
prosperous career in the industry."
In addition to the headling prize, all student competitors and sponsoring schools will receive a complimentary one-year membership to SCRS so that they can remain connected to the ongoing activities within the industry. The student competitors also were provided with T-shirts that were donated by SCRS and sponsored by PPG Automotive Refinish.
"SkillsUSA and career and technical education are about providing students with professional experiences," said Tim Lawrence, executive director of SkillsUSA. "This prize of a trip to the 2012 SEMA Show and SCRS Repairer Driven Education Program is an outstanding example of that kind of experience for both a student and an instructor. It's also a motivator to have more students think of a career in collision repair. That's good for the industry and the students."
