   collector
Collector Car Appreciation Day will be celebrated July 13.

A rich fabric has been woven into our experience as Americans by the automotive hobby and the traditions that guide it. Although the variety of shapes, styles and ages of our prized collector cars is incredibly diverse, sharing our affinity for unique vehicles can create or even strengthen a common lifelong bond between family and friends. On July 13, honoring this time-tested passion among our enthusiast family, is the greatest gift surrounding our hobby’s day of recognition: Collector Car Appreciation Day. For the third year in a row, the second Friday in July will again demonstrate this united spirit.

Earlier this year, the U.S. Senate passed Senate Resolution 452 at SEMA’s request. New Mexico, Hawaii, New York and West Virginia have also issued proclamations recognizing the occasion, while several other states and territories are pursuing similar initiatives.

There is still time to get involved. Individuals, car clubs and business owners have been registering their gatherings for inclusion on the SEMA Action Network (SAN) website. However you choose, please pay tribute to our hobby’s special day by holding or attending a celebration near you. Encourage others to follow suit. Let’s get those cars and trucks out of the garage and onto the road!

Please submit the details of your celebration. For questions, contact SEMA Action Network (SAN) Director Colby Martin at 909-978-6721 or san@sema.org. You may also download the official logo and flyer from the homepage and help promote this special day.

JE Pistons to Relocate Manufacturing Center in Ohio; Announces New Sales and Engineering Center in Southern California
JE Pistons is relocating its advanced manufacturing center to Mentor, Ohio. The decision to relocate is part of an ongoing effort to be closer to the majority of JE customers, improve delivery and expand capabilities, according to the company. Earlier this year, JE Pistons announced the company was expanding its manufacturing capabilities east of the Mississippi to reduce lead times and shipping costs for customers.

The relocation will occur in stages from July through November 2012 and will involve moving more than 75 of the company's modern CNC machines and supporting equipment.

According to the company, JE Pistons will make additional investments in research and development, product design and lead-time reduction systems. The company has made a capital investment of more than $1 million to the Mentor, Ohio, facility.

In addition, JE Pistons will retain a strong presence in Southern California, establishing a new sales and engineering center to maintain all sales, customer service and product engineering roles. The sales team will remain in place, so JE customers will continue to utilize their existing contacts to conduct business in the same manner.

This year's WD-40/SEMA Cares Foose charity vehicle will be a ’53 Ford F-100.

WD-40 Co. is looking for SEMA-member companies that manufacture or distribute products for the ’53 Ford F-100 to donate products for its charity vehicle this year—the WD-40/SEMA Cares Foose ’53 Ford F-100. After raising a combined $400,000 for SEMA Cares charities Childhelp and Victory Junction with its last three project-vehicle builds, this truck is expected to turn heads and garner significant exposure.

Following its build, the Foose-designed pickup will be used for promotional and publicity purposes for several months, showcased at the SEMA Show and make stops at key West Coast auto shows before being auctioned off at the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona, in January 2013.

Those willing to donate products for this project build should contact Mike Spagnola of Street Scene Equipment at mspagnola@streetsceneeq.com.

   pinewood
Mike Cooper of Spankys Hot Rods works on his miniature custom pinewood car for the HRIA Builder's Challenge.

Some of the nation’s best hot-rod and custom-car builders will create unique pinewood race cars to participate in the annual SEMA Pinewood Drag Races, presented by eBay Motors. The Hot Rod Industry Alliance (HRIA) Builder's Challenge allows these selected hot-rod builders to create one-of-a-kind miniature custom cars to be raced and then auctioned to benefit the Childhelp and Victory Junction children's charities.

Participants include:

The rules for the race are very liberal, allowing the builders to apply all of their skills to create these miniature hot rods. After the Pinewood Races at the Sheraton Fairplex Hotel & Convention Center in Pomona, California, July 27, the cars will be put on display at the annual SEMA Show in Las Vegas, October 30–November 2, 2012.

You can own one of these collectible cars by bidding on them on eBay, October 30–November 8. Stayed tuned to SEMA eNews for more updates on the HRIA Builder's Challenge. Check out the SEMA Pinewood Drag Races website for more information.

Held in conjunction with the annual SEMA Installation Banquet & Gala Fundraiser, the SEMA Cares Pinewood Drag Races, presented by eBay Motors, take place at 12:00 p.m. Friday, July 27, 2012, at the Sheraton Fairplex Hotel & Convention Center in Pomona, California. There is no better location for Pinewood Drag Races than Pomona—home of the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum and Auto Club Raceway.

Proceeds from the races benefit the Childhelp and Victory Junction charities. Childhelp assists abused and neglected children by providing counseling and programs in a safe and secure living environment. Victory Junction provides the camp experience for children with chronic medical conditions or serious illnesses who otherwise would not be able to go.
