Over the years, exhibitors were periodically contacted by non-official contractors to offer them “better deals” on items and services at the SEMA Show. The SEMA Show only contracts with and endorses the Official Service Contractors listed in the Exhibitor Services Manual and under Contact Information. These contractors are held accountable to provide the best possible customer service and ensure consistent and negotiated rates to all exhibitors at the SEMA Show.
SEMA does not sell exhibitor lists or contact information to anyone. Companies oftentimes use public information available on the Internet to acquire exhibitors’ contact information. SEMA only provides an exhibitor list to its official service contractors to inform companies about services they provide at the SEMA Show.
Services
While not tolerated or endorsed, SEMA does recognize that exhibitors will unfortunately be solicited for the following services by non-official contractors:
- Carpet
- AV/Computers Equipment
- Exhibit Design/Installation
- Booth Cleaning
- Floral
- Freight Shipping
- Hotel Rooms
- Photography
- Security
- Vehicle Detailing
If you decide to use a non-official contractor, make sure you do the following:
- Compare prices between contractors.
- Ask if the price includes everything. Ancillary expenses, such as shipping, drayage or labor may not be included or disclosed, yet will be incurred on-site.
- Ask for a 24-hour contact person (non-official contractors are not allowed on the Show floor after hours without written permission from Show management, or sometimes don’t even come to the Show to assist with set-up).
- Exhibitors must register the contractor with SEMA as an Exhibitor-Appointed Contractor (see EAC Application and Guidelines).
Housing/Travel Agencies
SEMA has contracted with Travel Planners to be the official housing company for the 2012 SEMA Show. Please be vigilant if approached by any other company or service other than Travel Planners that implies or claims to be an official housing provider of the SEMA Show. SEMA has been made aware of other housing companies or travel agencies that may be aggressively pursuing you, or your company, to book your guest rooms through their company at supposedly significant discounts. Reservations made through an agency other than Travel Planners will be at your own risk.
Such companies to avoid, as they are not affiliated with the SEMA Show, include:
- HDMC Group
- IEP Group
- International Events
- Le Company LLC
- TradeShow Housing
- Book My Rooms LLC
- Convention Housing Management
- Convention Expo Travel
- Elite Corporate Planners
- Expo Housing
- Global Housing Management (GHM Travel)
Directory Guides (Domestic and International)
For several years, different companies selling listings in their “Exhibitors Directory” or “Fair Guides” have been actively soliciting exhibitors who participate at numerous trade shows throughout the country, including the SEMA Show. The companies typically make it appear they have received your information from the SEMA Show and that there is a connection between their “guide” and the SEMA Show.
In their information, they may imply that your company has engaged with their “guide” before saying “update your pre‐registered listing in our exhibitors’ directory...” or “updating is free of charge.” However, in the agreement in very small type is a binding agreement that automatically renews every year (some up to three-year commitments charging $1,500–$5,000 each year).
Here are some examples:
- Fair Guide
- Expo-Guide Mexico
- World Business Guide – Madrid, Spain
SEMA has no relationship with these entities and strongly encourages all companies to have nothing to do with these programs. To find out if any company is reputable, regardless of the service promoted, or if you have any questions, please call Lisa Schafer at 909-978-6742, or e-mail at semashow@sema.org.

"The kiosk program was introduced in 2011 to assist many traditional SEMA Show exhibitors that have branched out into the powersports market,” said Peter MacGillivray, SEMA vice president of communications and events. "The kiosk program allows these exhibitors to showcase their powersports lines in the Powersports area of the Show floor. Meanwhile, they are able to maintain their primary booth location and focus on other products. It’s like being in two places at once.”
Of the 60,000 buyers that attend the SEMA Show each year, one in four indicate that they are interested in powersports products. As a result, a dedicated Powersports & Utility Vehicle section was introduced in 2010.
“Because the SEMA Show represents all segments of the automotive parts and accessories industry, it’s the ideal venue for businesses to discover new trends and identify new markets,” said MacGillivray. “The powersports market is closely tied to many of the SEMA Show’s core segments. As a result, many exhibitors and buyers have expanded and found great success in the area.”
For only $499, manufacturers can host a kiosk that will be located in the Powersports & Utility Vehicle section in upper South Hall, while maintaining their primary booth in the Show. The kiosk will display the company branding and marketing materials. Exhibitors may also showcase their product the way it is intended to be used by displaying a motorcycle, dirt bike, UTV, ATV or side-by-side in front of their kiosk.
The 2012 SEMA Show is set for Tuesday–Friday, October 30–November 2, 2012, in Las Vegas. As the largest automotive trade gathering in the world, the annual event features nearly 2,000 manufacturers, 100,000 industry professionals, dozens of educational seminars and several networking opportunities. Honda revealed a ’13 Crosstour concept at the New York International Auto Show earlier this year, but judging by these photos of the pre-production test vehicle, the concept was actually more than slightly updated styling. Spotted and shot by the shooters at Brenda Priddy & Co., the ’13 Crosstour is looking to be a near-twin of the so-called concept.
According to Priddy's team, updates for the ’13 model include a new grille, new fog lamp surrounds and an updated bumper. The rear taillights have also been updated. The team also reports that the ’13 model will offer a tweaked V6 with better fuel economy, matted to Honda's new six-speed transmission.
Expect the updated Crosstour to go on sale this coming fall.

One hiring option that could suit many employers would be to take advantage of programs matching up returning service members with jobs around the country.
For member companies that would like to be proactive in including transitioning service members and veterans in their recruitment and hiring initiatives, here are a few organizations that work with individual companies to match jobs with skills learned in military service:
- U. S. Department of Labor has developed a toolkit that serves to help pinpoint helpful tools and outline steps to take when designing a veterans hiring initiative that works for your particular business. Recognizing that each employer is unique, this guide is designed to help businesses find out how other employers have successfully recruited talented and skilled veterans into their companies.
- The 100,000 Jobs Mission was launched to facilitate hiring veterans and sharing best practices on recruiting, hiring, training, assimilating and retaining veterans. The organization says it would like to expand by collaborating with companies that might be interested in providing employment opportunities for transitioning military members and veterans.
- Warriors to Work program helps wounded warriors transition back into the civilian workforce by providing career counseling services and job-placement assistance. Through individual counseling, résumé assistance and career guidance, warriors' skills and experience are matched to hiring employers' needs. This free program allows warriors to post a résumé on a dedicated website, while employers receive a free login to post jobs and search for warrior résumé.
- Hiring Our Heroes is a nationwide initiative launched by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to help veterans and military spouses find employment. Works with a network of 1,600 state and local chambers and other strategic partners from the public, private and non-profit sectors to host hiring fairs in 48 states, and has launched a campaign to enlist the commitments from the small-business community to hire veterans and military spouses.
- U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs sponsors a website that provides the opportunity for veterans to post their résumés, and for employers to post job openings. The website links directly to Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (VR&E) national employment resources for employers.
- The 2011 VOW to Hire Heroes Act provides tax credits to businesses that hire one or more of the 900,000 unemployed veterans in the United States. Businesses that hire veterans unemployed between four weeks and six months can receive a credit up to $2,400. Businesses that hire veterans unemployed more than six months can receive a credit up to $5,600. Businesses that hire “Wounded Warriors” unemployed for more than six months can receive a credit up to $9,600.
