A bill to ban the “use and sale of any exhaust pipe that increases the sound emissions of any vehicle including motorcycles” has been assigned for study. The study order authorizes the Joint Transportation Committee to meet during the legislature’s recess to make an investigation of the bill and report to the General Court the results and its recommendations, if any, together with a draft of legislation necessary to carry the recommendations into effect. This action essentially kills activity on this bill for the year. 

An identical bill was introduced in 2009 and was set aside for study without any additional committee consideration. Several other Massachusetts bills have been assigned for similar studies, including a bill to provide for the adjustment of registration fees based on vehicle weight, and one to exempt new vehicles from motor-vehicle emissions inspections for the two years succeeding their manufacture year.

Motegi Livery Design Contest Underway
Motegi Racing launched a livery design contest that gives entrants a chance to win the grand prize of a trip for two to Las Vegas for a Global Rallycross competition at the end of September. The winner will also get his or her design applied to the car, which is expected to be on display and nearly complete at the Las Vegas Global Rallycross event on September 29, wearing the new livery design. Greg Golab Named Venchurs Inc. VP of Sales and Marketing
Venchurs Inc. has appointed industry veteran Greg Golab to vice president of sales and marketing. Golab replaces former vice president Terry Karges, who is transitioning to a new advisory role and member of the Venchurs board of directors. Karges recently accepted the position of executive director for the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. According to Venchurs, Golab brings more than 25 years of business operations and marketing experience to Venchurs. The NHRA Screamin’ Eagle Championship Motorcycle Series will offer a total purse of $152,800 and will feature five classes: Top Fuel, Pro Gas, Draggin’ Bagger, Street Pro and Hot Street. The classes will run in addition to the Sportsman E.T. Motorcycle class that competes at various NHRA divisional events. The 10 events scheduled for the inaugural NHRA Screamin’ Eagle Championship Motorcycle Series will be announced later this year when the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional schedule is released. One NHRA Lucas Oil divisional event in each of the seven NHRA divisions will host a series race, and three additional divisional sites will be determined.
