Legislation was reintroduced for the 2018 session that allows vehicles registered as “antique” to display year-of-manufacture plates with Department of Motor Vehicle approval. Antique vehicles are defined as vehicles more than 25 years old that are maintained solely for use in exhibitions, club activities, parades and other functions of public interest. The bill passed a House committee and has been sent to the House floor for consideration.

The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) may soon be replaced by the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). The three countries have agreed to update and rename the 1994 accord that created the trilateral trading bloc. The current timetable calls for the new agreement to be signed in late November and submitted to the U.S. Congress for ratification.  

Major provisions include a requirement that vehicles have 75% North American content, compared with 62.5% currently. At least 40%–45% of the vehicle content must be made by workers earning at least $16 an hour. Labor standard provisions included in the accord could lead to higher wages in Mexico. The new USMCA accord includes an automatic 16-year sunset clause, although reviews every six years can keep extending the pact. The accord outlines how each nation must allow cross-border enforcement of IP rights. The pact includes enforceable rules to curb countries from manipulating their monetary exchange rates. Mexico and Canada would not be subject to national-security tariffs if such were imposed on imported automobiles and auto parts. However, relief from the current national-security tariffs on steel and aluminum are subject to separate negotiations.

The SEMA Data Co-op is offering free data-management consultations in booth #20679 during Show week.

The SEMA Data Co-op (SDC) team will be out in full force during Show week, offering free data-management consultations in booth #20679 and demonstrating its services to buyers in a second location—the Grand Lobby in SEMA Central.

“We are very excited about this year’s SEMA Show,” said Mike Spagnola, SEMA vice president of OEM and product development. “With two specialized SDC booth locations, we will be able to talk to more manufacturers and buyers at the Show.  

“In addition, we are spotlighting manufacturers who have achieved Platinum status in the SDC. Platinum status means that buyers can expect the best and most complete data in the marketplace from that manufacturer to populate their website, computer or anywhere else they need catalog and point-of-sale data.
