YEN
SEMA members are invited to chat live with Shaun Freilich and Dale Martin during the next SEMA Young Executives Network (YEN) Facebook Live Chat, June 10, at 12:00 p.m. (PDT).

The SEMA Young Executives Network (YEN) presents a Live Chat featuring industry entrepreneurs and creatives Shaun Freilich and Dale Martin of Complete Customs. Tune in to YEN’s Facebook page, June 10, at 12:00 p.m. (PDT), as the duo hosts an engaging conversation on content marketing and how they are adapting their business model to new opportunities in 2020.

Freilich and Martin will discuss the Complete Customs Marketing Media Partnership—a unique business model that has allowed their business to not only be a full-service shop that sources parts and builds vehicles, but also document the entire build process though photography and video. By creating a partnership with manufacturers, they are able to promote and sell partners’ products on a daily basis by providing content in exchange for product.

Participants will be able to ask questions and gain insight from Freilich, who went from debuting his first SEMA truck at the RBP booth in 2009 to opening the doors of Complete Customs in 2011. Martin, who was hired as Freilich’s in-house photographer after his photos of Freilich’s Jeep made the cover of the first LFTD&LVLD magazine, will also discuss his journey transitioning from a regular job to going full time in the freelance world.

Mark your calendars and tune in to the YEN Facebook page, June 10, at 12:00 p.m. (PDT).

U.S. Representative Bill Posey (R-FL) is co-chair of the SEMA-supported Congressional Automotive Performance and Motorsports Caucus in the U.S. House. He is also a House co-sponsor of resolutions recognizing the annual Collector Car Appreciation Day (CCAD) celebration held in July. Growing up near Los Angeles, Rep. Posey spent his early days attending races with his father. It was not long until he found himself behind the wheel, racing Midgets at age 5. Over the years, he’s counted between 20 and 30 race cars among his collection; however, he’s recently focused his attention on collector cars. In 2011, he participated in the first leg of the Hot Rod Power Tour behind the wheel of his ’66 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu. Find out more information on the SEMA Action Network (SAN) website.

Watch the video below to learn more about Rep. Posey, who is one of the strongest advocates for the Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports (RPM) Act. Send a letter asking your legislator to support the RPM Act and protect the future of motorsports.

The U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) granted exclusion requests for 78 List 3 products imported from China and subject to 25% tariffs. The products cover a wide variety of commodities including several auto parts, such as:

  • Fuel filters for internal combustion engines, employing paper filtering media, each measuring at least 7 cm but not more than 16 cm in diameter, weighing not more than 120 g (described in statistical reporting number 8421.23.0000).
  • Self-regulating valves to control fuel pressure for automotive and marine applications (described in statistical reporting number 8481.80.9015).
  • Headlamp assemblies for passenger cars and trucks of subheading 8701.20 or heading 8702, 8703, 8704 or 8705, each comprising a plastic housing, a clear polycarbonate (“PC”) lens and light bulbs (described in statistical reporting number 8512.20.2040).
  • Die-cast aluminum alloy running boards for motor vehicles of headings 8701 to 8705, each measuring not more than 230 cm in length, not more than 21 cm in width and not more than 3 cm in thickness (described in statistical reporting number 8708.29.5060).

View the entire list.

An exclusion is product-specific, not company-specific. That means a company that did not request the exclusion may still benefit, although the benefit may be narrowly applied. For example, the beneficiary company may need to demonstrate that its product’s technical specifications are related, and the product can be used in the same manner as the excluded product.

The time period for List 3 exclusions is September 24, 2018 to August 7, 2020, regardless of when the exclusion request was granted. (The time period for requesting an exclusion ended September 30, 2019.)
