Northern Tool and Equipment graphic for student build.

National tool retailer Northern Tool and Equipment announced the launch of a school-year project challenging a group of 14 career and technical education (CTE) students from Flandreau Indian School in South Dakota to transform a hard-working '76 Ford F-350 utility truck into "America's Ultimate Trades Toolbox."

A Build of Firsts

Build IV marks several firsts for the Northern Tool Build program. It is the first build hosted at a tribal school, and for the first time, half of the student build team is female.

Throughout the school year, students will take on the transformation of the '76 Ford F-350––gaining hands-on experience in welding, fabrication, automotive repair, paint and bodywork, design and more as they work alongside industry professionals.

The truck's six utility compartments and bed will become "America's Ultimate Trades Toolbox," with each showcasing tools, craftsmanship and career pathways representing the skilled trades that have helped build America for generations––and will continue building its future.

Students have until May 5 to complete the build before its first reveal near Flandreau later that month. Then, in November, their work heads to Las Vegas for the national stage as a featured vehicle at the 2027 SEMA Show.

"We are grateful to be approached by a company that wants to invest in our school and growing CTE program without asking for anything in return," said Everall Fox, superintendent of Flandreau Indian School. "No endorsement of products; it's just about the kids and creating a better future for them."

The Mentors

Students will work alongside build mentor Keaton Lee, a renowned custom painter and builder.

"This is going to be an amazing experience for the students," said Lee. "I'm excited to get to work with this group and provide them with knowledge that will change their lives."

The team at Einspahr Ford in Brookings, South Dakota, has also joined the build. Its trained Ford technicians and experts will work alongside students throughout the project, helping them understand the truck, diagnose problems and gain exposure to professional automotive work. Einspahr will also help provide students interested in automotive careers with potential pathways beyond the build, including opportunities to further explore the industry.

The Partners

For Northern Tool and Equipment, Build IV is about bringing together companies and industry experts who share a commitment to the future of the skilled trades––and putting their tools, knowledge and connections directly in students' hands.

"No one company can solve the skilled trades gap alone, but together we can give young people a much clearer view of the incredible opportunities waiting for them," said Frank Crowson, chief commercial officer, Northern Tool and Equipment. "We're proud to bring together some of the best brands and people in the industry for Build IV––not to build this for the students, but to give them the tools, expertise and opportunity to build it themselves."

As part of the project, Northern Tool and Equipment is partnering with DEWALT to equip the shop with thousands of dollars' worth of professional-grade tools that will impact students for years to come.

"The future of the skilled trades depends on giving young people the tools, experiences and exposure to see what's possible," said J. Brooke Roberts, president of Farm & Hardware DEWALT. "Build IV does exactly that. We're proud to put professional-grade DEWALT tools in these students' hands––tools that deliver end-to-end solutions, safety with the highest performance and increased productivity on the jobsite––while connecting them with industry expertise and providing an experience that could help shape their future."

Additionally, House of Kolor will help reopen the school's shuttered paint booth and provide paint for the build.

"We're honored to support students learning the trades through Northern Tool and Equipment's project transforming this vehicle," said Tony D'Acquisto, vice president of marketing for Sherwin-Williams. "We're celebrating the 70th anniversary of House of Kolor this year, and we've talked a lot about the brand's legacy in custom color. I can think of no better way to honor and continue that legacy than by inspiring the next generation of auto enthusiasts and painters."

The Grand Finale

After its May 2027 reveal, the finished '76 Ford F-350 will head to Las Vegas for a massive national spotlight at the 2027 SEMA Show, one of the world's premier automotive aftermarket events, where it will be displayed as a featured vehicle.

"This student build is proof that the future of the automotive aftermarket and trades is in good hands. I'm proud to showcase what these students will build, and I'm excited for the industry to see their talent at the 2027 SEMA Show," said SEMA Recognition Program Manager Joe Escobar.

Follow the Build

The public can watch students tackle Build IV through monthly updates on Northern Tool's YouTube channel. The series will be hosted by Jesse James Dupree, lead singer of Jackyl, entrepreneur and trades enthusiast. Progress will also be shared throughout the school year on Northern Tool's Facebook, Instagram and TikTok channels.

Build IV is the fourth student build organized by Northern Tool and Equipment. For the second consecutive year, the students' journey will also become a television series on RACER Network. Build IV will be documented as an eight-episode series premiering in October 2027.

Harley Davidson at the SEMA Show

The 2026 SEMA Show is accelerating excitement with the announcement that Harley-Davidson, one of the most iconic and influential brands in motorcycling, will join the Show's expanded Powersports, SxS & Lifestyle section. The addition of Harley-Davidson highlights the growing significance of powersports within the aftermarket industry and brings one of the world's most recognized motorcycle manufacturers to the SEMA Show.

Harley-Davidson joins a growing roster of exhibitors that includes Kawasaki Motors, Kymco, Mahindra, Massimo Motor and Showa Performance, signaling strong industry support for the expanded section. Created to connect manufacturers, buyers, builders, retailers, distributors and other industry professionals across the powersports market, the section will showcase the latest innovations in performance parts, accessories, customization and related technologies. Placing the Powersports section adjacent to the Trucks, SUVs & Off-Road section reflects the strong crossover between the two markets, making it easier for businesses serving both segments to discover new products, connect with suppliers and identify emerging trends.

"The addition of Harley-Davidson brings an iconic name and a passionate enthusiast base to the SEMA Show's Powersports section," said SEMA Vice President of Events Tom Gattuso. "Harley-Davidson has helped shape motorcycle culture for generations, and its participation reinforces the strong connection between powersports and the automotive aftermarket. We're seeing tremendous interest from leading brands, and this section will give attendees a front-row seat to the innovations shaping the future of powersports."

Attendees will be able to explore the latest in powersports vehicles, side-by-side platforms, suspension systems, performance upgrades, accessories and lifestyle products, along with emerging technologies designed to enhance durability, capability and rider experience. The section continues to grow rapidly, offering a comprehensive look at innovations driving both recreational and utility-focused segments.

The connection between powersports and automotive enthusiasts is reinforced by findings from the annual SEMA Market Report, which found that more than half (54%) of automotive accessorizers own at least one recreational vehicle or powersports product. The report also shows that automotive accessorizers are more likely than non-accessorizers to own recreational equipment that commonly drives towing, hauling, and utility accessory purchases, including ATVs, UTVs, motorcycles, RVs, trailers and other outdoor recreation vehicles.

According to the report, powersports owners are heavily represented among automotive accessorizers, with significant ownership rates for products such as ATVs (15%), UTVs/side-by-sides (8%), off-road motorcycles (8%) and on-road/dual-purpose motorcycles (7%). This substantial overlap highlights the natural crossover between the automotive aftermarket and powersports markets, creating opportunities for brands that serve both enthusiast communities.

Overall, exhibitor commitments for the 2026 SEMA Show have already surpassed 1 million net square feet, with more than 2,000 brands preparing to connect with a global audience November 3–6 in Las Vegas. The event remains one of the largest and most influential trade shows in the country, reflecting sustained growth across the aftermarket.

In addition to this new section, the 2026 SEMA Show will feature strong participation across performance, trucks, collision repair, mobile electronics, tools and equipment, and emerging technologies. Major OEMs, including Toyota, Ford, Honda, Mitsubishi, Nissan and Stellantis, will also return, reinforcing the connection between factory engineering and aftermarket innovation.

Attendees can also experience signature features such as the New Products Showcase, Battle of the Builders, which now includes the Bike Builder Shootout and FutureTech Studio, all offering insight into the trends and technologies influencing the next generation of vehicles, on-road and off.

The 2026 SEMA Show will take place November 3–6 in Las Vegas as part of the broader "SEMA Week" experience, which includes public access on Friday and the high-energy SEMA Fest.

American Off-Road Racing Championship Announces 2027 Race Schedule

American Off-Road Racing Championship UTV.

The American Off-Road Racing Championship has officially announced its 2027 race schedule.

The 2027 season will take competitors across the deserts of Arizona and Nevada, organizers said, beginning with The Parker 400 in January and concluding with the UTV World Championship in December.

The 2027 American Off-Road Racing Championship calendar features seven major events across Arizona and Nevada. The season begins with The Parker 400, January 13–17, in Parker, Arizona, followed by The Mint 400, March 3–7, in Las Vegas. Racing returns to Las Vegas for the Silver State 300, April 21–25, before the Vegas to Reno Legends Rally brings competitors together in Reno, July 28–31. Just two weeks later, the Casey Folks Vegas to Reno "The Other Way" returns August 11–14, followed by the Laughlin Desert Classic, October 13–17, in Laughlin, Nevada. The 2027 UTV championship season will conclude with the UTV World Championship, December 1–5, with the location to be announced.

"This partnership was never about simply combining two organizations," said Matt Martelli, co-founder of UNLTD Off-Road Racing. "It was about bringing together the right people, races, resources and experience to build the championship this sport deserves. After a tremendously successful first year, we're excited about what's ahead for the American Off-Road Racing Championship. Next year, we'll build on the momentum of the first-ever Vegas to Reno 'The Other Way,' relocate the Silver State 300 to the heart of Las Vegas and bring back the UTV World Championship, the event that helped launch and define a generation of UTV racing."

In 2026, the American Off-Road Racing Championship (AORC) took a major step toward unifying and strengthening American desert racing by bringing UNLTD Off-Road Racing and Best in the Desert together under a single championship platform. The inaugural season established a unified points championship, rulebook, class structure, race numbering system, manufacturer competition and new opportunities for racers, teams, sponsors and fans.

"Casey built Best In The Desert around a simple promise: give racers the toughest, best-run events possible and create races they would spend a lifetime chasing," said Bryan Folks, CEO of Best In The Desert. "Today, this championship brings together decades of history and credibility with the production, media, marketing, technology and resources needed to take the sport to the next level. What we've built together in just one year is the solid foundation for greater things coming. I believe my father would be proud of where this is headed."

The 2026 American Off-Road Racing Championship concludes with the Laughlin Desert Classic, October 15–18, in Laughlin, Nevada.

Elsinore Ring Planned as Private 3.2-Mi. Road Course

Elsinore Ring

A private motorsports facility planned for Southern California is expected to feature a 3.2-mi. road course, multiple configurations and a dedicated race shop focused on vehicle preparation and competition.

In the AutoWeek story, Said said the planned circuit will be built along the shores of Lake Elsinore, California, near Lake Elsinore Raceway and Skydive Elsinore. He also noted the facility would be approximately 15 minutes up Interstate 15 from BMW of Murrieta, where he is a co-owner.

According to the Elsinore Ring website, the planned circuit is expected to follow FIA Grade 2 specifications and feature 22 turns. Three configurations are planned, allowing portions of the circuit to operate independently for multiple groups.

The track is being designed with technical corners, fast straights, sweeping sections and passing opportunities. According to elsinorering.com, sessions are expected to be organized by driver experience and vehicle category.

Boris Said, the project's founder and visionary, recently spoke with AutoWeek about the project, saying the track is to be called "Elsinorering," a nod to the famed Nürburgring. The project's website currently uses the name Elsinore Ring.

A dedicated race shop is planned to support members' vehicles, with services expected to include maintenance, tire mounting and changes, track preparation and race setup, diagnostics, fabrication and major mechanical repairs. A retail store is also expected to carry racing and safety equipment.

The planned development would also include garage residences and a clubhouse with a restaurant and event center.

The project appears to have support from the city of Lake Elsinore. AutoWeek reported that Gina Gonzalez, the city's director of economic development legislative affairs, said the city appreciates the partnership and the opportunity to showcase Lake Elsinore as the action sports capital of the world.

Finnish architect and motorsports competitor Seppo Mäntylä is listed as architect, while Joseph DeJesus is identified as partner and master developer.

According to the Elsinore Ring website, the project remains in development and is currently building its founding membership list.

IMSA, Collegiate Racing Series Jointly Establish National Advisory Board for Motorsports Education

IMSA National Advisory Board for Motorsports Education.

IMSA and the Collegiate Racing Series (CRS) today announced the joint establishment of the National Advisory Board for Motorsports Education (NABME), a collaborative effort designed to strengthen the connection between higher education and the evolving needs of the motorsports industry.

As part of the program, IMSA will provide internship opportunities in engineering and partnership marketing for qualified students, subject to IMSA business needs and applicable policies. The inaugural internship recipients will be announced during IMSA's annual State of the Sport presentation on October 1 ahead of the season-ending Motul Petit Le Mans at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta.

CRS, the "National Championship for Collegiate Motorsports," is a platform that provides students with practical experience through the design, preparation, operation and management of race programs. Other notable colleges and universities participating in CRS include UCLA, University of Florida, North Carolina State University, Purdue University, Rutgers University, University of South Carolina and Texas A&M, among many others.

Together, IMSA and CRS have jointly established NABME to help ensure academic programs more closely reflect the skills, experiences and professional expectations required throughout today's motorsports industry.

"Motorsports continues to evolve at an incredible pace, and developing the next generation of industry professionals is vital to sustaining that growth," said IMSA President John Doonan. "Through NABME, we can help bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world experience while providing students greater visibility into the diverse career opportunities available throughout our sport."

NABME brings together leaders from across motorsports, including engineering, race operations, manufacturing, safety, marketing and business disciplines, to help guide the development of future industry talent. The effort reinforces IMSA's longstanding commitment to education, experiential learning and workforce development while creating additional pathways for students to gain exposure to the professional motorsports environment.

"Creating meaningful pathways between education and industry has never been more important," said CRS President Jack Hobbs. "By bringing together educators and leaders from across the motorsports industry, NABME will help students gain practical experience, professional awareness and valuable industry connections that can support successful careers throughout the sport."

As universities across the United States continue expanding motorsports-focused academic programs, industry leaders have identified a growing need to better align educational experiences with workforce expectations. NABME was established to address that challenge by fostering collaboration between educators and industry stakeholders while supporting curriculum development, experiential learning opportunities and workforce readiness initiatives.

Central to the effort is the belief that successful preparation for careers in motorsports requires more than technical knowledge. Students benefit from exposure to real-world systems, team environments, regulatory frameworks and the fast-paced decision-making processes that are critical to modern racing operations.

IMSA and CRS leadership will participate in a joint NABME steering committee focused on workforce development, student engagement and long-term program growth. The organizations will conduct quarterly reviews and annual planning sessions to assess progress and identify future opportunities.

NABME's broader objectives include supporting accreditation guidance, curriculum alignment, skills-gap assessments, experiential learning best practices and workforce pathway development. The initiative is guided by principles that include industry relevance, hands-on experience, safety, leadership, collaboration, accessibility and continuous improvement.

Additional updates regarding student participation opportunities and future NABME programs are expected later this year.
