–Jeff Victer, Prolong Super Lubricants.

SCT President Rick Trudo estimated that his company's sales in China and other markets outside the United States will surpass its U.S. sales by 2015.

The MSRP for the new ’14 Silverado 1500 regular cab will start at $24,585, including a $995 destination freight charge—the same base price as the ’13 model.

Chevrolet has released information on initial pricing, performance data and EPA fuel-efficiency estimates for the ’14 Silverado 1500—an all-new pickup that starts production later this summer.

The ’14 Silverado 1500 will offer three new EcoTec3 engines, a six-speed automatic transmission, an all-new interior design, plus revised steering, suspension and brakes.

The ’14 Silverado will become part of Chevrolet’s three-truck portfolio, joining the Silverado 2500 and 3500 HD pickups, which were new for the ’11 model year. Chevrolet is also developing an all-new Colorado midsize pickup, which will offer significant truck capability in a space- and fuel-efficient package.

The MSRP for the new ’14 Silverado 1500 regular cab will start at $24,585, including a $995 destination freight charge—the same base price as the ’13 model. For that price, the ’14 Silverado regular cab, which starts production this summer, will include:

  • A more powerful, more efficient EcoTec3 engine
  • A six-speed automatic transmission
  • A stronger, quieter cab with an all-new interior
  • Four-wheel disc brakes with Duralife rotors
  • A new bed with standard box rail protectors and CornerStep bumper

The base starting prices for the Silverado crew cab—the first model to launch later this spring—and for the new double-cab Silverado—which replaces the extended cab—also will be the same as for the corresponding ’13 models.

Buyers of all ’14 Silverados also will receive a standard scheduled maintenance program for two years or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first. Up to four maintenance visits are included in the price of the vehicle, each one of which includes a regularly scheduled oil change, oil filter replacement, tire rotation and multi-point vehicle inspection, based on the schedule in the vehicle owner’s manual.

All-New Engine Lineup

The ’14 Silverado launches later this spring with crew-cab models equipped with the all-new 5.3L EcoTec3 V-8, which is expected to become the engine of choice in three out of four Silverado 1500s.

Chevrolet announced EPA estimates of 23 mpg highway for 2WD models, and 22 mpg highway for 4x4 models. Chevrolet says that beats the EPA estimates for the ’13 Ford EcoBoost turbocharged V6 for both 2WD and 4x4 models.

Silverado’s 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 is SAE-certified at 355 hp and 383 lb.-ft. of torque on 87-octane regular gasoline, with more than 300 lb.-ft. of torque available from 2,000 to 5,600 rpm for responsive performance under a broad range of real-world conditions.

Silverado will also offer later this year a standard 4.3L EcoTec3 V6, and an all-new 6.2L EcoTec3 V8. Final performance data and EPA estimates for these engines will be available in the coming months.

All three EcoTec engines feature direct fuel injection, Active Fuel Management (cylinder deactivation) and continuously variable valve timing. The engines also use a compact overhead valve design and weight-saving components, such as aluminum blocks and cylinder heads to reduce the mass of the engines for additional energy savings.

Double-cab 2WD models equipped with the optional max towing package, available later this year, will have towing ratings of up to 11,500 lbs. Other features include frames made from high-strength steel, larger, stronger rear axles for V8 models and an updated suspension with two-stage multi-leaf rear springs. Maximum available payload rating is 2,102 lbs.

radical ’51 Mercury custom won the Goodguys 2013 Mother’s Custom of the Year award at the Goodguys 31st All American Get-Together presented by Specialty Sales Classics. Rogers’ sleek candy-blue Merc beat out a field of customs to collect its second award this spring. The car also won the coveted Custom d’Elegance crown at February’s Sacramento AutoRama. The Merc was finished and produced for the show season by Bill Ganahl’s South City Rod & Custom. Highlights of the Merc include forward-slanted B-pillars and the addition of a ’50 Merc rear window (among other subtle cosmetic enhancements) that were artistically executed by Matt Townsend (Townsend Customs & Hot Rods). The addition of an evil ’53 DeSoto grille,’49 Merc dash and ’55 Ford side trim (featuring Packard spears) only enhanced the Merc’s curb appeal. The candy blue House of Kolor paint was sprayed by Joe Compani. Fellow finalists for the Goodguys 2013 Mother’s Custom of the Year Award included John D’Agostino (’40 Cadillac), Tony Cuevest (’49 Merc), Don Kirk (’40 Ford) and Jeff James (’54 Chevy).

Marx Group Advisors CEO Presents Seminar on Valuing Your Business for Sale
CEO of Marx Group Advisors Tom Marx will present "Aspects of Buying/Selling a Small Business," Wednesday, April 17, during a Production Engine Remanufacturers Association (PERA) webinar. The one-hour session (10:00 a.m.–11:00 a.m. [CST]) is designed for small- and midsize company owners, especially those who are thinking of selling and need information on the right way to prepare and follow through to successfully value their business. Webinar registration, open to PERA members and non-members, is available through GoToMeeting. “Our research has found that 70% of all small and midsized businesses never sell after they are put on the market," explained Marx. "Selling a business is not like selling a piece of real estate or any other type of asset."

Marx will address the questions people ask about how to sell and value their business, including ways to ensure the value of the business is maximized. He will provide the information needed to get a business ready to go to market; on how deals are structured; and why, when and how to use an intermediary to support you. He will also talk about proven steps to follow to increase the chance of closing the sale of a business.

Rockstar Energy Drink driver Tanner Foust earned the first win of an international Rallycross campaign that will see him contest two major series on three continents this year. He arrived at the Lydden Hill circuit in southeast England last weekend ready for a repeat of his 2012 performance there. Foust has finished the past two seasons in the top ranks of the FIA European Rallycross Championship, earned back-to-back Global Rallycross Championship titles and has scored three X Games gold medals in rally competition. He now leads the points in the nine-round European championship.

The shooters at KGP Photography have snagged their best look yet at a Lincoln MKC prototype, caught testing with its production-ready shape covered in camo on the streets of Dearborn, Michigan.

While the overall design of the MKC will stay true to the fetching concept that bowed at the most recent Detroit Auto Show, there are some clear differences between the production model and the show car. The production MKC's headlights are more tame, with conventional projector-beam units joining what appears to be some thankfully subtle LED running lights. The grille design looks to be nearly identical, right down to the sculpting of the individual grille blades on the MKC's MKZ-inspired air-intakes. The production MKC's wing mirrors—while more delicate than the concepts—have some nice surface development applied to them.

The prototype also seems to have a slightly less rakish profile, showing its Escape-based roots a bit more than the concept. The production MKC's taillights definitely mimic the concept, but the rear bumper gets a new rear valance which appears to eschew the integrated exhaust ports in favor of a separate dual-exhaust design.

The MKC is being fast-tracked to production, with a possible official debut penciled in for the end of this year.
