Racing News: Kasey Kahne Released From Richard Petty Motorsports; Set to Join Team Red Bull for 2011

A LITTLE EARLY: Kasey Kahne was given his release from Richard Petty Motorsports last week, allowing him to join his 2011 race team, Team Red Bull, last weekend at Martinsville (Virginia) Speedway.

SCHOLARSHIP: IndyCar and USAC have formed a partnership that will award a $300,000 Firestone Indy Lights oval scholarship to the USAC National Driver’s Champion.

BACK ON TRACK: John Blewett Sr. and Don Ling have struck a deal with the owners of Wall (New Jersey) Stadium to host the track’s 37th annual Turkey Derby Thanksgiving weekend.

GOING TO FLORIDA: USAC will sanction the Central Florida Wingless Sprint Car Association next season, creating the USAC Southeast Sprint Car Series.

CLOSING THE GAP: Denny Hamlin closed to within six points of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship leader Jimmie Johnson by winning Sunday’s Tums Fast Relief 500 at Martinsville (Virginia) Speedway.

TURKEY HUNTING: Kyle Hamilton will drive the No. 9 Nine Racing midget during the USAC Mopar National Midget Series Turkey Night Grand Prix at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale in California, November 25.

NEW SERVICE: Key Motorsports in Mooresville, North Carolina, has expanded its auto-racing presence by offering body-hanging services to NASCAR Sprint Cup, Nationwide, Camping World Truck, K&N Pro East and ARCA teams.

TROPHY MASTER: Jonathan Allard banked $20,000 as the overall winner of the Trophy Cup at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, California, Saturday.

DISPUTED: Tim McCreadie won the $20,000-to-win Eastern States 200 for big-block modifieds at New York’s Orange County Fair Speedway Sunday, but not before Stewart Friesen staged a protest on the frontstretch after a scoring decision gave McCreadie the lead late in the race.
