Racing News: Four Past Winners Among the 40 Entries Filed for 2010 Indianapolis 500

INDY ENTRIES: Seventy-eight cars comprise the 40 entries filed for the 2010 Indianapolis 500, including four past winners and four women.

MORE ON IMPACT:
The SFI Foundation has permanently decertified a number of products made by Impact Racing between 2005 and 2007, including driver suits, driver accessories, driver-restraint assemblies and stock-car driver-restraint assemblies.

NEW COAT: Officials have announced that Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida, will be repaved before the 2011 edition of Speedweeks.

BACK AGAIN: Tomas Scheckter will return to Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Indianapolis 500 this year behind the wheel of the No. 23 Dreyer & Reinbold Racing entry. The South African native has eight career Indy starts.

HELPING THE KIDS: The 2010 edition of the Gillette Fusion ProGlide Prelude to the Dream will benefit four children’s hospitals from around the country. In addition, Tony Stewart will offer the Indianapolis 500 winner a chance to compete in the event.

NEW HOME: Shell/Pennzoil has announced plans to move from Richard Childress Racing to Penske Racing to sponsor Kurt Busch in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Busch, who will drive the No. 22 Dodge next year, has also signed a five-year contract extension with Penske Racing.

HISTORICAL: Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup event at Talladega (Alabama) Superspeedway, which was won by Kevin Harvick, set the Sprint Cup records for most lead changes (88) and leaders (29) in one event.

TRIBUTE: Dale Earnhardt Jr. is set to announce that he will drive a No. 3 Wrangler-sponsored Chevrolet during the NASCAR Nationwide event at Daytona International Speedway July 2 in honor of his late father.

TIRE FIGHT:
Pirelli is the most recent name to join the list of potential tire providers for Formula One next season, joining Michelin and Avon Cooper.

DROPPED: J.C. France, son of International Speedway Corp.’s Jim France, had his drug possession and DUI charges thrown out of court because the officer who pulled France over was outside his jurisdiction.

TITLE SPONSOR: For the first time in more then 10 years, Pocono Raceway will have a corporate sponsor for one of its races. Pocono’s June 6 event will be known as the Gillette Fusion ProGlide 500.
