Racing News: Harvick and Busch Sweep NASCAR Weekend in Nashville

CUP KINGS: Kevin Harvick (Nationwide) and Kyle Busch (Trucks) swept the two major NASCAR events this weekend at Nashville Superspeedway in Lebanon, Tennessee. Busch’s victory was the first for his new team, Kyle Busch Motorsports.

ALL CLEAR FOR NOW: The SFI Foundation Inc. and Impact Racing have given teams and drivers the all clear to use Impact Racing gear purchased in 2009 and 2010. Anything older than that will still lose its certification April 27.

DUSTY ROAD: Bad track conditions and wet weather forced the cancellation of Eldora Speedway’s opening weekend Friday and Saturday, which was slated to feature the AMSOIL USAC National Sprint Car Series at the Ohio speed plant.

INDY 500 RIDES: John Andretti and Bruno Junqueira have landed rides for the Indianapolis 500. Junqueira will team with Alex Tagliani and the FAZZT Race Team, while Michael Andretti and Richard Petty will team together to field John Andretti’s ride.

BAD LUCK GOODBYE: Sebastian Vettel finally put his bad luck behind him with a victory in the Malaysian Grand Prix in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Sunday. Red Bull Racing teammate Mark Webber started from the pole and finished second.

TRAGIC: A 15-year-old female race car driver was killed in New Zealand last week. Samantha Mouat was killed when the mini stock she was driving crashed into a concrete wall during a dirt-track event at Kaikohe Speedway.

FANS SPEAK: Fans were given the chance to choose the length of the 50th Knoxville Nationals, and they spoke loud and clear. Fans, via a poll on knoxvilleraceway.com, selected a 50-lap Knoxville Nationals finale, scheduled for August 11–14 at Knoxville (Iowa) Raceway.

ON WITH THE SHOW: Showtime Networks Inc., has signed on as the title sponsor of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Southern 500 at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway this year.
