Racing News: Danica Finalizing Deal to Drive Select NASCAR Events

SPONSORING: National Speed Sport News reported in August that Danica Patrick signed a three-year contract to remain with Andretti Autosport in the IZOD IndyCar Series, but news came Monday that godaddy.com will be the primary sponsor on the No. 7 she will drive. Patrick is also finishing up a contract to drive selected events in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.

NEW GIG: Former Lowe’s Motor Speedway Director of Short Track Events Roger Slack has signed on as vice president of events for the World Racing Group, which operates the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series and World of Outlaws Late Model Series among other dirt-racing properties.

BIG WEEKEND: Bryan Clauson enjoyed a huge weekend of USAC open-wheel competition. Clauson won the Turkey Night Grand Prix midget race at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale and then won the USAC-CRA Sprint Car Series season finale at Perris (California) Auto Speedway. He was also named winner of the annual National Midget Driver of the Year award.

OH, CANADA: It is official, the Canadian Grand Prix (GP) will return to the Formula One schedule next season after a one-year absence. GP operators signed a five-year contract to hold the event at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal.

SOUTH AMERICA: The first IZOD IndyCar Series race in South America will be held March 14 in Sao Paulo.

BACK TO THE TOP: Jimmie Johnson finished the season at the top of the National Speed Sport News Power Rankings. The rankings appear weekly in America’s Motorsports Authority.
