Racing News: Schumacher Calls Off Formula One Comeback

NOT RETURNING: Seven-time Formula One World Driving Champion Michael Schumacher has called off his return to racing because of neck injuries he suffered in a motorcycle accident in February. He was scheduled to replace injured Ferrari driver Felipe Massa, but instead Luca Badoer will get the drive.

BIG WINNER: Scott Dixon became the all-time leading winner in the Indy Racing League with his 20th victory Sunday at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. A.J. Foyt remains the all-time Indy car victory leader with 67 triumphs.

EYEING INDY CARS: Former Indianapolis 500 winner Gil de Ferran, who announced he will retire from racing a second time at the end of the American Le Mans Series season, is hoping to field a two-car IndyCar Series entry next season. Meanwhile, another former Indy car driver and current road racing team owner, Adrian Fernandez, is also investigating a return to Indy car racing as a team owner.

MONEY MAN: Dirt-late-model driver Jimmy Mars won the North/South 100 at Florence Speedway in Union, Kentucky, giving him his second $50,000 triumph in as many weeks.

BUMPED UP: With a victory Monday afternoon at Watkins Glen Int’l, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series point-leader Tony Stewart returned to the top of the National Speed Sport News Power Rankings this week. The rankings appear weekly in America’s Motorsports Authority.
