Racing News: Peugeot Wins First 24 Hours of Le Mans in 16 Years

DROUGHT BREAKER: Peugeot won the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the first time in 16 years with drivers Marc Gene, Alexander Wurz and David Brabham sharing the wheel of the turbocharged 908 V-12 diesel coupes.

MORE FOREIGN CARS?:
NASCAR Chairman Brian France told the media over the weekend that the sanctioning body has been talking to other manufacturers about entering the series in the near future. France called NASCAR “the preeminent place in North America for car manufacturers to build their business with an auto-racing group.”

MIDGET MAN:
Bryan Clauson won twice in four races to claim the Indian Midget Week title sanctioned by USAC.

INJURED: NASCAR Camping World Series champion Johnny Benson broke a rib and suffered other minor injuries in a violent crash of the supermodified he was racing Saturday night at his hometown Berlin Raceway in Marne, Michigan.

FIRST LADY:
Emily Sue Steck, 23, became the first female driver to win a late-model feature at Wisconsin’s LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway.

TEAM CHANGE: Ryan Hunter-Reay will move from Vision Racing to the IndyCar Series team owned by A.J. Foyt for the remainder of the season, replacing Vitor Meira who was injured in the Indianapolis 500.

STILL ON TOP: Formula One point-leader Jenson Button remains atop the National Speed Sport News Power Rankings, which rates drivers from all auto-racing disciplines. The rankings appear weekly in America’s Motorsports Authority.
