Racing News: Jury Continues Deliberation in Castroneves Tax Evasion Trial

DELIBERATIONS: As of Tuesday morning, a jury continued to deliberate over the fate of two-time Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves, his sister Katiucia and attorney Alan Miller. The trio are charged with conspiring to hide a portion of Castroneves’s income from the Internal Revenue Service.

SPONSOR ONE: Richard Petty Motorsports has landed sponsorship from Hunt Brothers Pizza that will keep A.J. Allmendinger and the No. 44 Dodge on the track at least through the first 26 races of the season.

SPONSOR TWO: Patron Tequila will back Scott Sharp in a run at the Indianapolis 500 this season. Sharp, who drives for Patron in the American Le Mans Series, will drive a second car entered by Panther Racing, as a teammate to Dan Wheldon.

THE LAST RIDE: Jesse Hockett and Terry Goodwin were the winners on the final night of racing at historic Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix. Hockett won the sprint-car race, and Goodwin copped the midget feature.

BIG DOINGS: NASCAR will move its NASCAR Whelen All-American Series banquet to the Embassy Suites Hotel in Concord, North Carolina, this year and follow it up a day later with the NASCAR Night of Champions Touring Gala recognizing champs from five NASCAR touring divisions. The events will be held November 13–14.

TOP DOG: Kyle Busch remained in the top spot in the weekly National Speed Sport News Power Rankings, which rates drivers from all auto-racing disciplines. Formula One point-leader Jenson Button is second. The rankings appear weekly in America’s Motorsports Authority.
