DRIVERS PREPARE FOR NASCAR'S CHASE FOR THE CUP AND OTHER RACING NEWS

RACE TO THE CHASE: Clint Bowyer holds down the final spot in The Chase for the Cup in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series with just this Saturday’s race at Richmond International Raceway remaining before the field of 12 is set. He holds a 17-point lead over David Ragan, with Kasey Kahne an additional 31 points behind Ragan.

KEEP THEM SEPARATED: The dominant NHRA Top Fuel combination of driver Tony Schumacher and crew chief Alan Johnson will split after this season, with Johnson leaving Don Schumacher Racing to become a team-owning partner in Al-Anabi Racing.

DIED: Phil Hill, the only driver born in the United States to win the Formula One championship died August 28 from Parkinson’s disease. He was 81 years old.

HONORED: The media center and control tower at the New Jersey Motorsports Park was dedicated in honor of National Speed Sport News Editor Chris Economaki, as the track held its first professional racing events over the weekend.

POWER RANKINGS: NHRA Top Fuel point leader Tony Schumacher remained at the top of the National Speed Sport News Power Rankings after winning the U.S. Nationals for the seventh time. It was his 11th victory of the season and 52nd of his career, tying him with Joe Amato on the all-time list. The National Speed Sport News Power Rankings are published weekly in the 74-year-old motorsports publication.
