INDYCAR SERIES MOVES TO VERSUS NETWORK AND OTHER RACING NEWS

NEW PARTNER: The IndyCar Series made a bold move to partner with the Versus network for coverage of its 2009 series. The Indy 500, however, will remain on ABC.

SOMETHING NEW: The American Sprint Car Series announced an agreement with Lucas Oil and K&N Filters to back the organization’s national touring series next season. The Lucas Oil ASCS Sprint Car Dirt Series presented by K&N Filters will offer $40,000 purses with $6,000 to win for winged 360 sprint cars.

HAT TRICK: Donny Schatz won the SuperClean Knoxville Nationals for the third consecutive year. Sprint car racing’s most prestigious event paid the North Dakota native $150,000.

STILL THERE: Martin Truex Jr. announced he will continue to drive for Dale Earnhardt Inc. in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series next season.

STAYING HOME: Despite a late offer from Chip Ganassi Racing, Tony Kanaan will remain with Andretti Green Racing for the 2009 IndyCar Series season.

POWER RANKINGS: NHRA Top Fuel point leader Tony Schumacher remained at the top of the National Speed Sport News Power Rankings after his ninth victory of the season in just 16 races. The National Speed Sport News Power Rankings are published weekly in the 74-year-old motorsports publication.
