SEMA Show set up booth


As brands prepare for one of the world's largest trade events for automotive professionals--the SEMA Show, November 5-8 in the Las Vegas Convention Center--SEMA Show organizers want to remind exhibitors about the process and important dates for shipping items and products to your SEMA Show booth. These details can be found in the SEMA Show Exhibitor Service Manual (ESM), the one-stop location for all booth services.

ABCs of Shipping to the SEMA Show

There are multiple ways to get your materials onto the Show floor, including:

Freeman Advance Warehouse via Common Carrier, Van Lines or Company Truck – Shipping materials with a trucking or van company can deliver assets to: Freeman Advance Warehouse, 6675 West Sunset Road Las Vegas, NV 89118.

  • This is the best option if an exhibitor wants to begin set-up at their assigned target time. The shipment must arrive by the deadline date of October 24, 2024 (additional material handling fees may apply).

Directly to SEMA Show via the Freeman Marshaling Yard – Common carriers, van lines or company trucks must use the Marshalling Yard and arrive during the company's assigned target time for this option.

  • Freeman Marshaling Yard, 6555 West Serene Avenue Las Vegas, NV 89139.
  • Navigate to the "Target Times" section in the ESM for specific assigned dates.

Direct to the SEMA Show via Personally Owned Vehicle (POV)/Freeman Assisted – Driving materials directly to the SEMA Show in a vehicle (car, truck, or van) driven by a company employee, can go directly to the Las Vegas Convention Center on Saturday, November 2, through Monday, November 4, to unload. Material handling fees may apply.

Direct to Show via Hand Carry/Self-Unload – Driving materials directly to the Las Vegas Convention Center in a vehicle (car, truck, or van) driven by a company employee without assistance. Hand Carry/Self-Unload locations will be open from Saturday, November 2, through Monday, November 4. The below restrictions must be followed:

  • Only company employees can hand-carry freight.
  • Booth materials and products must be carried by one person at a time only. If it requires more than one person to carry, it will not qualify.
  • Exhibitors must bring an additional person to stay with the vehicle while unloading/loading. The vehicle cannot be left unattended or is subject to towing.
  • Unloading must be done within 30 minutes so there are NO UNATTENDED VEHICLES.
  • Use of a small, non-industrial, two-wheel dolly is permitted, but note some devices are prohibited. See here for more details.

Priority Carriers (FedEx, UPS, DHL) – This option is for shipping materials overnight or via ground directly to the Las Vegas Convention Center, 3150 Paradise Road, Las Vegas, NV 89109. Note: materials cannot arrive before Thursday, October 31, 2024.

In addition, Freeman began accepting freight at the Advance Warehouse starting at the beginning of the month. Freeman will accept freight from common carriers, van lines and from priority carriers until October 24, 2024. After that date, a late fee will apply.

Freeman will deliver all freight from the Advance Warehouse to the booth by the company's assigned target time. This is the best option for exhibitors that want to begin set-up at the assigned target time.

Audi A7 Hybrid Prototype Spotted in Germany

New spy shots from Germany have revealed a prototype of the new Audi A7 hybrid sedan undergoing testing, according to SEMA News sources.

For those not ready to fully embrace electric charging just yet, the future Audi A7 family will still feature traditional gasoline engines. These engines will be based on an updated version of Audi's Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) platform, which will run alongside the electric PPE platform.

Future models are expected to include mild hybrids or plug-in hybrids, sources said, featuring larger batteries capable of delivering up to 62 miles of pure electric range. The A7 is expected to prioritize four-cylinder engines, making the future of the eight-cylinder RS6 uncertain. However, high-performance S and RS models may still utilize a plug-in hybrid system with six cylinders, according to insiders.

While the combustion and electric models will differ in terms of technology, they will look similar in design. The new A7 bears a resemblance to the A6 e-tron Concept shown in 2021, with both featuring sleek single-frame grilles, flared fenders nodding to Audi's quattro heritage and slim LED headlights and taillights.

Inside, expect similarities in cockpit design and user interface between the Audi A6 e-tron and the future A7. The options for touchscreen, steering wheel and voice controls will remain, but the cockpit's widescreen will feature adaptive layouts that tailor the display to specific driving conditions, showing only the information needed at any given time.

Genesis GV60 Getting Refresh, Increased Range

Genesis is giving the GV60 a refresh with updates to its appearance and improved range.

Visual tweaks to the front and rear include redesigned bumpers and a new light signature. The black camo reveals a few details, such as the sensor island and a honeycomb grille in the lower section of the front bumper. The front bumper's side air intakes will adopt a more conventional look.

The headlights remain mostly unchanged, but the upper and lower sections now have six and seven modules instead of five. Slight tweaks are also visible at the rear, with the rear spoiler incorporating a modified light strip.

Genesis GV60

 

Mid-life updates usually include finer materials and upgraded equipment, so expect these as well, insiders said. The GV60 has already been launched with the new cockpit standard in modern Hyundai, Kia and Genesis vehicles, so significant changes here are unlikely. The facelifted models should adopt Hyundai's next-generation infotainment system called the Connected Car Navigation Cockpit. This system includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and supports over-the-air software updates.

The Genesis GV60 will likely feature a larger 84-kWh battery pack, up from the current 77.4-kWh pack, improving the range beyond the current estimate of 292 miles for the RWD model. The GV60 will also incorporate the Active Air Skirt system, sources said, which consists of two slats that extend in front of the wheels to improve aerodynamic efficiency. The slats deploy at speeds above 50 mph and retract when the speed drops below 43 mph. Tests have shown that the AAS can reduce drag by up to 2.8% on a Genesis GV60 test vehicle.

The SEMA Show--this year November 5-8, in the Las Vegas Convention Center--is the largest automotive specialty-equipment trade event in the world, providing a secure environment for businesses to debut new products. SEMA Show organizers work diligently year-round to ensure that intellectual property (IP) rights are respected and protected, giving companies the confidence to showcase their latest innovations to a global marketplace. At the same time, exhibitors are encouraged to take an active role in protecting their IP before, during and after the event by following simple steps to ensure products are safeguarded. If any issues happen to arise, the SEMA Show team has a strict IP process in place along with resources to support exhibitors. 

"SEMA takes the intellectual property rights of our exhibitors very seriously, and that's why we have a process in place to help prevent missteps before they happen," said SEMA Vice President of Events Tom Gattuso. "What we don't want is for our exhibitors to take things into their own hands. We have a strict system of steps, valuable resources and access to top attorneys who can help our exhibitors confidently unveil and introduce new products and innovations safely into the market." 

The following is an overview of SEMA's IP rights process, but note if you have any questions, please reach out to your SEMA Show sales representative or call the SEMA Show Office at 909-396-0289. During the event, you may call the on-site office at 702-943-3505 or visit the Show Office in C102 in Central Hall. 

SEMA's Intellectual Property Rights Process Helps Protect Companies

Before the SEMA Show, companies need to have their IP registered and well-documented, including securing patents, trademarks or copyrights through the appropriate federal agencies like the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) or the U.S. Copyright Office. SEMA encourages all exhibitors to file the necessary paperwork ahead of time, as this can provide critical legal protection. After filing, affirm your rights by properly marking products with appropriate notices like trademark symbols, copyright symbols and--where practicable--patent numbers. 

Exhibitors are encouraged to conduct their own due diligence by monitoring their IP rights and potential misuse by third parties to identify possible IP issues before the event. If you suspect that another company may plan to display a product infringing on your IP, notify SEMA as soon as possible for the next steps. 

Leading up to the SEMA Show, exhibitors should maintain relevant records, including: 

  1. Relevant application and registration documentation 
  2. Documents related to the adoption, first use and ownership or licensing of IP, including assignment and license agreements 
  3. If applicable, any cease-and-desist- or demand-letters to those suspected of infringing the exhibitor's IP rights 

During the SEMA Show, a dedicated IP attorney is on-site and ready to provide legal support and assist exhibitors with any concerns. Suppose an exhibitor has reason to believe another company is infringing on its IP rights. In that case, the exhibitor must file an IP Complaint at the Show Management Office (Room C102 in Central Hall, 702-943-3505). Be sure to have documentation explaining ownership of the applicable rights ready to share in a PDF file along with the completed IP Complaint Form. Exhibitors should avoid direct action themselves, such as loitering and confronting the offending company, to ensure a smooth resolution and avoid legal complications. Note that a SEMA-provided attorney will be on hand for consultation, and any legal counsel an exhibitor may want to bring on-site must be registered under their company's name. 

After the SEMA Show, exhibitors should continue to monitor the market for any signs that their products are being misrepresented or infringed upon, plus keep IP rights up to date to protect their business in the long term. Suppose an exhibitor believes that their IP rights have been violated by another SEMA exhibitor after the event. In that case, they should contact SEMA management at 909-396-0289 and pursue legal action through the court system. This process can involve filing an injunction or sending cease-and-desist letters to the infringing party.  

By taking a three-pronged approach--before, during, and after the SEMA Show--exhibitors can protect their products and IP effectively. QA1 Hires Ryan Gebhardt as Director of Marketing

Ports along the East and Gulf Coasts, from Maine to Texas, are shut down indefinitely due to a longshoremen strike.
