Chevy

Just about a month ago, GM introduced the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison complete with factory steel bumpers, skid plates and a snorkel. Here is a first look at the Bison without its scuba gear, which gives us a better idea of what we’ll actually see on the road.

The Colorado ZR2 Bison is a factory spec truck, with some serious off-road capability. It features class-exclusive front and rear locking differentials and Multimatic DSSVTM dampers. The Bison gets an all-new “Chevrolet” lettered grille, which seems to take a page from the Raptor playbook. The Bison will sit on 31-in. Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac off-road tires paired with exclusive AEV Bison 17x8-in. aluminum rims.

According to GM, power will come from the 2.8L Duramax Turbodiesel engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.

Expect to see the Colorado ZR2 Bison on the road in the coming months.

Young Accessorizers Report
SEMA’s new “Young Accessorizers Report” is now available through SEMA Market Research.

Young people grow into the automotive specialty-equipment industry. At age 16, only 5% accessorize or modify their vehicles. However, as they age into their 20s, they are more likely to get a license, have a vehicle and spend money on parts. By age 23, more than 30% of them are accessorizing. As young drivers get older, they gain more control over their vehicles and enter the customization culture.

Want to learn more about this emerging and important consumer segment? Interested in learning how you can more effectively reach the nearly 8 million young drivers who accessorize? Check out the new “SEMA Young Accessorizers Report,” available for free download.

Attending the 2018 SEMA Show? Want to learn more about young accessorizers? Check out the Young Enthusiasts education session, Thursday, November 1, from 10:15 a.m.–11:15 a.m., in LVCC Upper North Hall, N252. Register for the session today.

Market Research
The October 2018 “SEMA Industry Indicators” report is now available through SEMA Market Research.

Another month of solid economic growth is in the books and the U.S. economy continues to look strong. Consumers remain optimistic, and unemployment is at a 40-year low. The manufacturing sector has slowed, but it’s still strong and expected to grow—although tariffs and a strengthening dollar may change this. New-vehicle sales are also projected to grow over the next few months, despite slowing a bit recently. Overall, we’re a month away from the holiday shopping season, and all signs indicate that it will be strong this year.

To learn more, download the October “SEMA Industry Indicators” report, now available from SEMA Market Research.

This month also includes insights from the new “SEMA Young Accessorizers Report.”

Guthrie-Levie Racing sidecar motorcycle, which reached a top speed of 320.304 mph.

Visit the “Save the Salt Booth” in the Central Hall (#24099) of the 2018 SEMA Show and see two record-breaking vehicles. The ’34 “911” Ford highboy roadster with a 4,000-plus hp engine hit 301-mph at the Bonneville Salt Flats is owned by Dave Davidson, and his team includes John Beck and Donny Cummins. The Guthrie-Levie Racing sidecar motorcycle will also be on display—John Levie reached a top speed of 320.304 mph in this vehicle. On Wednesday–Thursday, October 31–November 1, meet owner/builder Rick Vesco and driver Dave Spangler of the Turbinator II—the first wheel-driven car to exceed 500 mph. They will sign autographs from 11:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. each day.

The Salt Flats possess rare physical qualities that have made it a perfect land-speed racing venue since 1914. SEMA, along with other organizations and companies comprising the Save the Salt Coalition, is working closely with federal and state government officials and the adjoining potash mine owner to restore Bonneville. A 10-year salt-pumping program is being developed to triple the amount currently being pumped to bring the Salt Flats closer to its former glory.

Visit booth #24099 to learn more or www.savethesalt.org.
