SEMA represents more than 7,300 member companies. Of these, around 2,900 companies are manufacturers and many make performance parts and accessories for hot rods and restoration vehicles. One such company is Danchuk Manufacturing Inc.

Members of SEMA's market research, show and membership services departments recently visited Danchuk, a new member company and exhibitor for the 2009 SEMA Show in Las Vegas.

Dan and Art Danchuk went into business together in the '60s, but they did not make their first Chevrolet part, a parking light lens for a '57 Chevrolet, until 1976. Danchuk Manufacturing Inc. was born.

Actually, the original company name was Classic Reproductions, which was then modified to Class Reproductions by Danchuk Manufacturing and was finally changed to the current name.

Today Danchuk is the largest manufacturer and distributor of '55, '56 and '57 Chevrolet performance and restoration parts.

The Danchuks have a passion for auto restoration parts, Chevrolet restoration parts in particular. They decided to focus all of their efforts on parts for ’55–'57 Chevrolet vehicles.

Headquartered in Santa Ana, California, Danchuk Manufacturing is proud to say that all of its parts are manufactured in the United States. The company opened a shipping facility in Brownsburg, Indiana, with the intent that a customer should receive an order within three business days from either location.

Danchuk's commitment to quality and the dedication to manufacturing parts for only three model years of Chevrolet vehicles have set the company apart.

Staying tuned in to the needs of their core customers likely contributed to the company's success in a down economy. The folks at Danchuk have often obtained business from customers who first purchased similar parts from another company, only to discover a lack of quality, resulting in a pitted piece, such as a hood ornament.

The tour of the manufacturing floor itself was notable. There was older machinery, including '50’s vintage lathes, mixed in with brand new CNC machinery.

The new machines have helped to reduce production time and have contributed to the improved quality and durability of restoration parts. It was apparent that Danchuk employees love what they do and take pride in their jobs.

Danchuk's catalog includes products manufactured by other SEMA-member companies. Restoration parts are at the core of the Danchuk passion and business, but the company loves hot rods, too.

And in reality, a hot-rod '56 Chevrolet Bel Air will likely be accessorized with some restoration parts such as taillight housings and a hood bird. And customers can take comfort knowing that they purchased a restoration part that is of superior quality, just like the original.

Steve Brown, general manager, has been with the company for 24 years. He was very interested to learn about the many benefits that SEMA has to offer, including market research reports and custom research requests. Brown, along with Kevin Anderson, buyer for Danchuk, had many questions about the upcoming 2009 SEMA Show.

They both have regularly attended the Show and are very enthusiastic about the opportunity to exhibit. They were also extremely interested in learning about the various things that SEMA has done this year involving the Show, including the negotiation of lower hotel rates, the new four-stage payment plan and the Exhibit Value Plan (EVP).

Danchuk Manufacturing has been in the industry for a long time and, in fact, was previously a member for a short time. Management realized the value of rejoining as a SEMA member and expects the company's presence at the 2009 SEMA Show will help to grow the business even more and solidify Danchuk's reputation as the largest manufacturer of ’55–'57 Chevrolet parts. — SEMA Research & Information Center

NEWS NUGGETS

FORCE HOPES FOR REPEAT SUCCESS IN TOPEKA:
It had been almost 10 months since his last visit to winner’s circle. That’s a long time for anyone to wait, but for 14-time world champion, John Force, a man that has the most world championships, most round wins (1,021 currently) and most event wins (126) in NHRA history, the wait was almost unbearable.

“I didn’t know if I could win again,” Force said. “I believed it, but we just couldn’t get that magic to win a race.”

That all came to an end when Force drove past runner-up Tim Wilkerson at the 20th annual O’Reilly NHRA Summer Nationals in Heartland Park Topeka just one year ago and grabbed his first win since Brainerd 2007.

The win not only gave Force the confidence needed to continue to stay competitive in arguably one of the most talent-stacked categories in NHRA history, but it shot the former champ from fifth to a strong third in the point standings, a position that helped keep the NHRA legend within the top 10 point standings at the mid-point of the regular season of the 2008 Countdown to the Championship, ultimately leading to a Countdown to 1 playoff appearance later that year.

“Just give me a race car and I’ll pray this thing to the winner’s circle,” said Force.

Force will have his chance to do so as the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing series returns to Heartland Park Topeka this week for the 21st annual O’Reilly NHRA Summer Nationals, the halfway point of the regular season in the NHRA Full Throttle Series Countdown to the Championship. For Force, who is currently ninth in the Funny Car point standings, a win in Topeka could propel the driver further up in the point standings and give the NHRA legend a 10th win at the track, the most of any other driver at Heartland Park Topeka.

Force will more than likely have to face some tough competitors along the way, which include red hot Del Worsham, who’s coming off of back-to-back wins in St. Louis and Bristol, current points leader Ron Capps, who has three wins in four final round appearances, and the rest of the highly competitive Funny Car class.

The drivers made a guest appearance on the Coca-Cola Stage at Speed Street and participated in an autograph session and fan meet-and-greet on Saturday as part of Lowe’s Motor Speedway’s Speed Street in downtown Charlotte. In addition, the group participated in the pre-race drivers meeting prior to the 50th running of the Coca-Cola 600 and followed that with a visit to the Lowe’s Motor Speedway Media Center.

The six drivers were promoting the upcoming NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series event at zMAX Dragway, across the street from Lowe’s Motor Speedway.

HE SAID, SHE SAID

IN AWE OF SUCCESS: Pro Stock driver Mike Edwards, who has two wins in three final round appearances so far this season, on competing in the Pro Stock class: “I don’t know if people realize how hard it is to do well in this class. I respect Greg (Anderson) and Jason (Line) and those are the guys you want to beat because they’ve been up there so long, just like Warren and Kurt (Johnson) too. To beat those guys…I never dreamed I would be as competitive in this class and run like this. It’s an awesome feeling.”

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

2: That’s the number of active drivers in Top Fuel that have more than one win at Heartland Park Topeka. Brandon Bernstein (2007, 2004) and Cory McClenathan (1998, 1994) are the only active Top Fuel drivers with more than one win. Below is the list of drivers that could join them by earning their second win at Heartland Park Topeka this weekend.

  • Larry Dixon (2003)
  • Doug Kalitta (1993)

DID YOU KNOW…

…that Funny Car driver Tim Wilkerson’s son, Daniel Wilkerson, will make his NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series debut at this weekend’s O’Reilly NHRA Summer Nationals in Heartland Park Topeka. Wilkerson will be driving a second Levi, Ray & Shoup Shelby Mustang and will join the ranks of such second-generation drivers as Ashley Force Hood, Brandon Bernstein, Larry Dixon and Tony and Cruz Pedregon.

SEMA guarantees 2009 SEMA Show exhibitors a list of 1,000 pre-qualified buyers about one month prior to the Show opening.

SEMA Show organizers have announced a Leads Guaranteed Program designed to reassure exhibitors that the 2009 event is on track to deliver high-quality buyers. The guarantee provides to all exhibiting manufacturers/importers and exclusive distributors a list of at least 1,000 pre-registered buyers whose profile matches that of the exhibiting company, on or before October 1, 2009.

The list will be prioritized so that exhibitors can see who the best matches are and will include the tools necessary to reach out and communicate with the buyers at least a month before the SEMA Show takes place on November 3–6, 2009, in Las Vegas.

"We know that exhibitors' biggest concern is connecting with quality buyers," said Peter MacGillivray, SEMA vice president of communications and events. "The Leads Guaranteed Program is more than just an assurance that buyers will be at the Show. It's a valuable tool that will help exhibitors identify the most relevant buyers and easily connect them with one another and provides a new opportunity to win business."

The lists will be personalized for each exhibitor and include only preregistered buyers whose product interest and company type matches that of the exhibiting company. Exhibitors that do not have at least 1,000 matches will be eligible to withdraw from the SEMA Show without any financial penalties.

To learn more about the Leads Guaranteed Program and how to exhibit at the 2009 SEMA Show, visit www.SEMAShow.com or contact ConvExx Show Management at sema-exhibit@convexx.com or 702/450-7662, ext. 120.
