GEICO RENEWS WITH MORGAN LUCAS RACING THROUGH 2014: Insurance giant GEICO has renewed its agreement with Morgan Lucas Racing and NHRA Top Fuel driver Morgan Lucas for three more years. GEICO joined Lucas’ drag racing team in 2009—a career-best season for Lucas that included three victories and a berth in the Countdown to the Championship. The former Sportsman star has become a fixture in the elite top 10 ever since, representing GEICO at more than 20 NHRA Full Throttle national events each year.

“I know without question we have the best sponsor in the world,” said Lucas. “GEICO is a true partner in every sense of the word, and their understanding of motorsports and drag racing in particular is unparalleled. It’s very simple—we could not do this without GEICO. Quite frankly, we wouldn’t want to race without them. We’ve become so close to so many people within the organization. They are part of our family.”

NMRA Announces New Strange Engineering Coyote Stock Class Presented by 5.0 Mustang & Super Fords Magazine
ProMedia, parent company of the NMRA Ford Nationals all-Ford series, has announced a new heads-up drag-racing class for the 2012 NMRA Keystone Automotive Ford Nationals season. Strange Engineering Coyote Stock Presented by 5.0 Mustang & Super Fords magazine will be a spec-engine class, utilizing a sealed version of Ford’s newest powerplant—the 5.0L DOHC “Coyote” motor (carrying the unique part number M-6007-M50S) and utilize a spec, sealed processor (CM-12A650-A5LA). The class will be open to all Ford vehicles, ’54 model-year and newer, and each competitor will be required to weigh-in at the same 3,200 lbs. Competitors will compete on a true 10.5-in. tire and have a choice of a wide variety of Ford OE and TREMEC manual transmissions utilizing a single-disc diaphragm clutch, or the venerable C4 automatic transmission.

The crux of Coyote Stock’s formation was to provide an affordable way for both rookie and veteran drivers to be competitive in a heads-up class without having to undertake an involved, expensive engine program. Already, racers are embracing the class, with cars being pulled apart in preparation of dropping a Coyote between the rails.

Adam Householder brought home his first Best in the Desert's Trick Truck win.

Adam Householder Takes the Trick Truck Victory in Henderson
After starting 28th off the line at Best In The Desert’s (BITD) Silver State 300 earlier this season, Adam Householder brought home his first Trick Truck win (BITD’s equivalent of SCORE Trophy Trucks). Since that time, Householder has consistently put the No. 24 Householder Motorsports Ford near the top of the standings in both BITD and SCORE International; the only driver to earn Top Five season standings in the most elite class of each of these series.

The final BITD race of the season, the TransWest Ford Henderson 250, saw Householder qualify 18th overall (8th in Trick Truck), but he has already proven that he does not need clean air in order to finish on top. Householder drove the entire race, with Russell Hampton navigating and Householder’s father and veteran racer Terry Householder orchestrating logistics.

Householder was able to make time on the competition in the No. 24 Householder Motorsports Ford to finish first in Class 1400 (Trick Truck). In doing so, he was the only Trick Truck driver to win two BITD races this season.

Hyundai Elantra Touring

Brenda Priddy & Co. reports that it was a little more than two months ago when Hyundai introduced the all-new i30 to the world—also known as the Elantra Touring—but the automaker left plans for North American release in limbo. Now, sources have informed Priddy to expect the new i30 to arrive in the United States in time for the ’13 model year.

Priddy's team expects the coupe version of the Elantra to debut at the Chicago Auto Show and the i30 Touring to follow shortly after.

While a complete walk-around of the vehicle was not possible, these photos show the U.S. spec version of the i30 with fog lamps borrowed from the Hyundai Accent and not from the i30 previously shown in Europe.

Whether or not modifications will be made to the North American version when it goes on sale in late 2012 remain to be seen. Priddy and the crew will keep us updated as soon as more details are made available.
