SCRS reports an attendee registration increase of more than 250% (YTD) in comparison to the same time period last year.

Since 2010, the Society of Collision Repair Specialists (SCRS) has provided the Repairer Driven Education (RDE) series during the Show, attracting record-breaking attendance numbers with each year.

As of July 1, SCRS reports an attendee registration increase of more than 250% (YTD) in comparison to the same time period last year. With more than four months remaining until the Show opens, Tuesday, November 5, the pace at which the program is gaining registrations is a tremendous indicator that the 2013 SEMA Show will be the destination for professionals in the collision-repair industry.

"We are extremely proud of the series we have developed this year, and still have some additional programming we are working on to even further amplify the experience this fall," shared SCRS Chairman Ron Reichen. "Attendee reaction to our events is always the best indicator of whether or not we are delivering what the industry is looking for in our series. Based on the feedback we have received so far, and the extremely compelling numbers, we are confident that the varied content is going to provide very tangible value to all involved."

The RDE series isn't the only area of the Show where the collision industry is demonstrating early spikes in activity. Show management numbers through the end of June indicated an increase in collision industry exhibitor counts, square footage occupied by exhibiting collision industry companies and both overall and collision-focused attendee registration.

While the primary activities for the collision-repair industry take place in the Collision Repair & Refinish section of the Show in the North Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center, industry meetings, forums and newly expanded Show floor space also extend into the Las Vegas Hotel & Casino (LVH). In addition, many collision industry companies take advantage of space that is available in virtually every area of the Show. Areas, such as Tools & Equipment (North Hall), Restyling & Car Care Accessories (North Hall), Racing & Performance (Central Hall), Hot Rod Alley (Central Hall) and the First Time & Featured Exhibitors (LVH), all feature companies that have a strong collision-repair focus.

"Since the early stages of our discussions, our partnership with SCRS has focused on providing opportunity to the industries we each represent," added Peter MacGillivray, SEMA vice president of communications and events. "The fact that the collision-repair community has become such an integral part of so many areas of the Show, and has demonstrated such annual growth, really emphasizes the benefits derived from industry involvement in the premier global automotive specialty destination in the world. We are proud to boast that SEMA Show attendees will be exposed to educational seminars, product demonstrations, special events and networking opportunities, and believe that our collaboration with SCRS has been a leading contribution to those opportunities."

A complete listing of the RDE sessions can be found at www.semashow.com/scrs. The 2013 Repairer Driven Education program is currently sponsored by SEMA, GM Genuine Parts, BASF Refinish, Ford Motor Co. and AkzoNobel Coatings.

 hotels
The LVH, located right next to the Las Vegas Convention Center, is just one of several hotels offering early-bird rates for the SEMA Show.

Several of the deadlines to recieve an early-bird hotel rate for the 2013 SEMA Show are fast approaching. Showgoers are encouraged to visit the Travel & Lodging page of www.SEMAShow.com for the latest hotel rates and to book through the Travel Planners for a guaranteed low rate on a hotel room for the Show.

Pre-planning and taking advantage of the cost-saving programs in place, such as hotel and airfare discounts and early Show registration, are some of preliminary ways Showgoers can limit expenses.

Book Your Rooms

Showgoers may now secure rooms through Travel Planners—the official SEMA Housing Services provider. When booking through Travel Planners, reservations come with guaranteed low rates and perks, such as no resort fees, and attendees can rest assured that they are working with a legitimate company.

"Travel Planners is the only housing company that is backed by SEMA," said Peter MacGillivray, SEMA vice president of communications and events. "Companies can book their rooms for the Show with confidence, knowing that their requests are handled by an official Show partner. With the advantages of pre-negotiated prices and low-rate guarantees, Showgoers can make plans with the certainty that their rate is competitive."

  seal
Travel Planners includes this seal on all e-mail communications with SEMA exhibitors and attendees, as well as on their website. If you do not see this seal on a website or e-mail that promotes hotel rooms for the SEMA Show, it is not an official SEMA provider.

Among the benefits of using Travel Planners include:

  • Guaranteed low rate: The housing bureau actively monitors to ensure that they are offering the lowest possible rates. If guests do find a lower rate, Travel Planners will match or beat the lower rate.
  • No hidden fees: Many hotels in Las Vegas advertise lower rates and charge a “resort fee” on top of that rate. SEMA and Travel Planners have worked with hotels to waive such fees. The price quoted through Travel Planners is all-inclusive and will not have other fees added to it.
  • Exclusive room blocks: SEMA and Travel Planners lock in prime blocks of rooms at host hotels. As a result, rooms may appear to be sold out to the rest of the world when in reality they are being held for SEMA Showgoers who go through the SEMA Housing Services.
  • Extra level of service: Because reservations made through Travel Planners identify guests as SEMA Showgoers, the hotel staff provides a higher level of service and helps direct guests to Show-related programs, such as free shuttles. Guests also receive confirmation numbers in advance of the Show and can get hotel help from Travel Planners staff at the SEMA Show.

On July 11, Subaru PUMA RallyCross Team drivers Bucky Lasek, Dave Mirra and Sverre Isachsen will race head-to-head against a pack of international stars at New Hampshire Motor Speedway for round four of the 2013 Global RallyCross Championship (GRC). The trio will each pilot their 600hp ’13 Subaru WRX STI Rallycross cars on a custom dirt and tarmac course. The team is eager for another run after team leader and three-time European Rallycross Champion Sverre Isachsen qualified third-fastest and then fifth-fastest at the previous double-header round in Munich, Germany. Isachsen was set to finish fourth overall in the Final at Munich before being spun out from behind by another competitor on the final lap.

Fast fire roads, twisty tight mountain roads, high desert roads lined with pinion trees, red sands of Sedona’s red rocks, white sand wash roads and pavement sections highlighted the course. “We kicked off the event with an open house at the brand-new Addictive Desert Designs facility in Mesa on Thursday where there was a full vendor midway,” said Jason Cobb, Raptor Nationals event promoter. “Friday, we gave a drivers school for those who wanted to learn more about their Raptors capabilities. Then the two-day 297-mile trip ended on Sunday at the KC HiLites factory with a fabulous BBQ. We were really happy to have Roush, VORR and Sanderson Ford with us on the run.”

HRIA Education Day will consist of 24 sessions, each led by a hot-rod parts manufacturer educating attendees about product features, benefits and installation guidelines.
The annual SEMA Hot Rod Industry Alliance (HRIA) Education Day will be held, for the first time, in conjunction with the Detroit Autorama—the 60-year-old custom car show taking place in March 2014 at Cobo Hall in Detroit. The program will consist of 24 sessions, each led by a hot-rod parts manufacturer educating attendees about product features, benefits and installation guidelines.

“For more than 10 years, HRIA Education Day has proven to be a key event for helping manufacturers share detailed, and sometimes technical, information about their products with their customers,” said Jim Skelly, SEMA director of councils. “Holding the Education Day program at the Detroit Autorama will allow HRIA members to expand and reach a new audience.”

HRIA previously held its Education Day program at the Hotrod & Restoration Trade Show in Indianapolis. The move to the Detroit Autorama will enable manufacturers to reach a new, expanded audience. Autorama, which is well known for having the world’s most coveted hot rods, prestigious awards competitions, as well as top celebrities and student programs, attracts more than 150,000 individuals annually. Education Day will take place Thursday, March 6, 2014 (the day before Autorama officially opens), and is open to all hot-rod shops and businesses, as well as to all Autorama attendees.

“As one the nation’s premier indoor custom car show, the Detroit Autorama attracts thousands of businesses and enthusiasts who are passionate and deeply vested in new hot-rod products,” said Peter A. Toundas, president of Championship Auto Shows Inc.—promoter of the event. “The HRIA Education Day program will add a valuable element to the event, giving attendees an opportunity to connect directly with manufacturers, which would be difficult for them to do on their own.”

The list of participating manufacturers and schedule for HRIA Education Day will be available in August. All sessions will be one hour long.

The HRIA is a SEMA council dedicated to ensuring the future prosperity of the hot-rod industry and to advancing and promoting awareness of the hobby. Within this context, HRIA focuses on industry-specific issues, developing effective strategies and programs that will assist members in improving their business practices and procedures. HRIA also works with the HRIA legislative staff to address those legislative issues and/or regulatory matters, which may affect the hot-rod industry, and provides a forum—through participation in Hot Rod Alley, a special SEMA Show section—through which member companies can take advantage of new business and marketing opportunities.
