The 2026 SEMA Show Opens With a Ribbon-Cutting in Las Vegas

The 2026 SEMA Show opened Tuesday in Las Vegas with an official ribbon-cutting in the newly revamped section of SEMA Central in Central Hall. The industry came out in full force for the opening day, as each Hall came alive with crowds of tens of thousands of automotive aftermarket professionals seeking new products, business connections, emerging technology and ideas shaping the industry's future.

Across the Show floor and in educational sessions, one theme stood out: the aftermarket's continued growth depends on the people, partnerships and innovation moving the industry forward.

Industry Leaders and Automotive Icons Help Kick Off the Show

Before the Show floor filled with attendees, the automotive aftermarket gathered for the 2026 SEMA Show Kickoff Breakfast at the Westgate Las Vegas.

SEMA Show Kickoff Breakfast Artie and Jay Leno

The morning program featured industry advocate Jay Leno and Harley-Davidson CEO Artie Starrs, plus special presentations and recognition of standout industry achievements through the New Products Awards, Manufacturer of the Year and Channel Partner of the Year honors. The annual gathering set the tone for opening day, celebrating the innovation, businesses and industry leaders driving the aftermarket forward.

Building the Next Generation of Automotive Talent

That focus extended beyond the Show floor and into SEMA's world-class education program, which continues through Thursday, November 5.

One of Tuesday's SEMA Education sessions, "SAE International, SEMA and the Future of Automotive Careers," highlighted how SAE International, a global mobility engineering and standards organization, is partnering with SEMA to help develop the talent pipeline feeding the aftermarket's future workforce.

Moderated by Motivo Engineering Ambassador Dean Case and joined by SAE International Senior Director of Product Line at SAE International Allison Hostetler, Forged Authority Off-Grid Founder Ian Lehn and Scorpion EV Vice President Karen Salvaggio, the panel discussed the expanded partnership between the two organizations and offered insight into how SEMA-member companies can leverage programs to identify emerging talent, support workforce development efforts and recruit future employees.

With a talent gap already impacting aftermarket companies and a retirement cliff looming on the horizon, the availability of qualified candidates is a crucial issue impacting all corners of the industry. Luckily, SEMA members can invest in future aftermarket pros now to help guarantee a qualified and passionate workforce for years to come.

SAE International, SEMA and the Future of Automotive Careers panel at 2026 SEMA Show.

"When you go to a school and give a talk and answer questions, that gets an amazing response," Case said. "Since SEMA companies are scattered all over the country, I guarantee at the very least there's a high school they could inspire, and there's likely a college nearby, as well. These are your potential future employees, business-to-consumer customers or business-to-business customers.

"Influencing them early is good for business. Companies that get involved with education will find some benefits," he added. "And some of them show up decades later."

Getting involved not only benefits the students participating, according to Hostetler. It also helps organizations like SAE International fine-tune their programs and better prepare the future workforce for an aftermarket career, uplifting the entire industry.

"We love to have your investment. It lets us grow, it lets us build your future workforce and programs," she said. "But we also need your expertise in volunteering to help us shape what that looks like. What skills do you need so that we can build the next generation?"

SEMA's Work Today Is an Investment in the Industry's Future

That sense of community and shared purpose extends well beyond the four days of the SEMA Show. Speaking with SEMA Live host Chris Jacobs on Tuesday, SEMA Chair Melanie White reflected on her first Show and the lasting impact of being part of the automotive aftermarket.

"My first SEMA Show was so impactful to me. I was like, 'You mean, we really get to do this for a living? This is a real thing?'"

White also emphasized that while the SEMA Show brings the industry together, the association's advocacy and member-focused work continues throughout the year.

"The SEMA Show is a celebration of what SEMA is. But what we do the other 365 days of the year is work on behalf of our members," White said. "We've had so many wins this year with Leno's Law. In California, SB 1069 makes it easier for CARB products to get to market faster. ORBA had a memorandum of understanding with the BLM. We've had economic studies, and all of that leads into momentum for next year, which will be really powerful for the industry."

For White, that investment in the industry's future is also personal.

"My company, Hellwig, is a fourth-generation, family-owned business, and my son is 17 and interested in the business," she said. "This is something we really want for generations to come––this passion we have for automobiles."

Ford and Washtenaw Community College Put Students to Work

This year, Ford is putting vehicle customization and the next generation of automotive talent on display with its Ford Custom Garage Ultimate Build competition.

On Tuesday, attendees could use on-site 3D configurators to design their dream Ford Bronco. Each design was entered into a competition, with the winning design set to be brought to life by six students from Washtenaw Community College (WCC) in a live build on the Show floor Thursday, November 5.

"Without builders, there are no vehicles to be had. So, we are really investing in the next generation of builders; showing people the career paths they can have [in the aftermarket], and this is a great way to celebrate it," said Matt Simpson, executive director of Ford Customization.

The completed Bronco will be formally unveiled Friday, November 6. Attendees can visit the Ford Motor Company Booth #20000 in Central Hall to see the finished build then, and also use the 3D configurator to design a dream Bronco.

The competition caps a semester-long partnership between Ford and WCC that gave students hands-on experience with real vehicles, tools and industry professionals through eight weekly sessions covering customization, product development, design, engineering and the business of the aftermarket. The project demonstrates how industry and education can work together to connect classroom learning with real-world skills and career opportunities.

For students attending the 2026 SEMA Show, Wednesday offers another opportunity to connect with the automotive aftermarket and explore career possibilities. The Student Program Welcome Kickoff, taking place from 9:00–10:30 a.m. PT in Room W326, will introduce students to the program, highlight opportunities available throughout the Show and help them make the most of their time connecting with industry professionals.

SEMA has pulled the curtain back on its advocacy strategy for 2027, releasing its 2027 Advocacy Agenda at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas. The advocacy agenda is an important piece of SEMA's acclaimed efforts to inform and engage its members on the federal and state issues that impact the automotive aftermarket industry and the nation's enthusiasts.

The advocacy agenda annually serves as a reference point throughout the year, with SEMA providing regular updates on the progress of the issues outlined within.

View SEMA's 2027 Advocacy Agenda.

Issues outlined in the advocacy agenda fall under a series of "rights" that American aftermarket businesses and automotive enthusiasts are owed and deserve:

  • The Right to Modify, ensuring the sustainability of the automotive aftermarket industry.
  • The Right to Race, protecting racetracks and the future of motorsports.
  • The Right to Preserve, sharing our automotive heritage with the next generation.
  • The Right to Explore, keeping America's public lands accessible for motorized recreation.
  • The Right to Build, ensuring America's skilled workers, small businesses, and domestic manufacturers can thrive.
  • The Right to Choose, protecting consumer choice in the automotive space.

"It's important to remember that even as we face nationwide uncertainty in Congress and the states because of the results of the midterm elections, SEMA has always delivered impactful advocacy on behalf of the automotive aftermarket industry and enthusiasts across the U.S., regardless of who is in power," said Karen Bailey-Chapman, SEMA's senior vice president for public and government affairs. "As long as we maintain an engaged group of advocates and continue to tell the story of how our industry resonates on an economic and cultural scale, SEMA will remain well-positioned to secure laws and policies that will help aftermarket businesses and their customers thrive."

ICYMI: ORBA Signs Landmark Agreement With BLM for Responsible Public Lands Stewardship and Recreation

ORBA logo overlaid off-road stock image.

The U.S. Department of the Interior's Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has entered into a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Off-Road Business Association (ORBA), a landmark agreement between the public and private sectors to provide a framework for existing land management to become more consistent, scalable and measurable nationally while supporting practical coordination at the state and field-office level.

The formalizing of the relationship between ORBA and BLM will help advance work already underway to connect national discussions with localized efforts, improve early communication with proponents, expand education and stewardship opportunities, and establish tangible results that can be reviewed over time.

"Public land stewardship works best when we bring people to the table early and focus on solutions," said Steve Pearce, BLM Director. "This agreement strengthens our partnership with ORBA and gives us a better way of working together. By collaborating with ORBA earlier and more consistently, we can improve access and give our field offices and local communities the tools they need to support responsible recreation on America's public lands."

"ORBA is thrilled for the opportunity to engage formally with our partners at the Department of the Interior and BLM for a shared mission to better understand and promote responsible recreation and stewardship of public lands," said Laura Butcher, ORBA's legislative director. "Our public lands are a national treasure, and we all benefit when all stakeholders are pulling in the same direction in service of preserving access for all."

The MOU is designed to support responsible outdoor recreation, public lands stewardship, workforce awareness, recreation infrastructure improvements and data-driven evaluation of the economic contributions associated with motorized recreation on public lands.

The MOU covers several critical objectives, in which BLM and ORBA will:

  • Workforce awareness and career outreach.
  • Stewardship and public lands projects.
  • Recreation opportunity coordination.
  • Economic impact and research collaboration.

Among the immediate initiatives is the development of a practical "Do I Need a Permit?" session and pursuing opportunities to offer it across the popular Overland Expo series of enthusiast events. ORBA will also provide practical support and basic education for Title III and Special Recreation Permits, Paleontological Resource Use Permits and Scientific Research Permits and Authorization.

The MOU will provide a more consistent framework for connecting these efforts, helping to translate national-level conversations into practical work with BLM offices, industry partners, permittees and recreation communities, while giving both ORBA and BLM clearer opportunities to identify where coordination is useful and productive.

There is no federal funding tied to this MOU, and therefore serves as an example of how private-public partnerships can help meet national challenges through collaboration, communication and resource sharing. The agreement would not change BLM's permitting authority or ORBA's ability to advocate independently. It would provide a clearer structure for the areas where coordination between BLM and ORBA can be productive.

Background on the Five-Year MOU

While this formal relationship is new, DOI and BLM are already familiar with ORBA, which has worked with both agencies at the national level, coordinating directly with state and field offices and helping businesses and permit proponents navigate issues on the ground.

In June, ORBA participated in meetings in Washington, D.C., with the White House, DOI, BLM, congressional offices and House Natural Resources Committee staff focused on travel management, motorized access and other public-lands issues.

Much of the work envisioned during the crafting of the MOU is already underway. ORBA has a well-established working relationship with BLM's Nevada and California offices, including years of involvement in special recreation permitting and education, economic impact work, and technical meetings.

SEMA Issues Statement on November 3, 2026, Election

Following Tuesday's election results, SEMA's Washington, D.C., office issued the following statement:

Elections are a funny thing. They deliver change and, with that, heartburn and anxiety. They also present opportunities to adjust course and plot new strategies.

The outcome of the 2026 midterm election is no different. Here at SEMA, we're aware that November 3's results will create for our members uncertainty and consternation that we largely avoided in 2024.

But don't forget that second part of what elections bring: opportunity. And with that in mind, we want the aftermarket industry to know we've got a plan.

SEMA has a track record of delivering impactful advocacy across multiple administrations and Congresses. And regardless of who controls the House and the Senate, we've proven we can get the job done for our members, the industry and the nation's automotive enthusiasts.

Here's where our focus remains: first on the issues, then on who voters elected.

Our story is told by showcasing the people who make up this industry and by highlighting the economic clout on display at the 2026 SEMA Show. That foundation provides a framework for our work in Washington, D.C.

And it's upon that foundation that SEMA will continue to protect the right to modify, the right to race and the right to explore.

The initiative is a direct response to clear market demand and the evolving habits of the modern enthusiast. The Show floor will undergo an evolution to group Trucks, Off-Road and Powersports together, reflecting the "total package" approach enthusiasts take toward their adventure builds. The section will highlight a diverse range of categories, including:

  • Motorcycles and dirt bikes
  • Side-by-Sides

Advanced Clutch Technology 2026 SEMA Manufacturer of the Year

SEMA named Advanced Clutch Technology (ACT) as its Manufacturer of the Year and Motor State Distributing as its Channel Partner of the Year during the SEMA Show Kickoff Breakfast in Las Vegas. The annual awards recognize companies for their outstanding contributions to the automotive specialty-equipment industry during the past year.

"Advanced Clutch Technology and Motor State Distributing demonstrate the innovation and channel leadership that move our industry forward," said SEMA CEO Mike Spagnola. "ACT's product development and Motor State's commitment to dealers, racers and manufacturers are strengthening the marketplace and creating new opportunities across the industry. We are proud to recognize them for their achievements."

Advanced Clutch Technology

ACT expanded its clutch kit lineup to support newly launched platforms, expanding coverage for newly introduced vehicle platforms. That momentum was reinforced when Motor State Distributing quadrupled its stocking inventory of ACT clutches and components, reflecting increased dealer demand and distributor confidence. ACT manufactures its products at its Lancaster, California, facility and supports applicable products with SFI certification and a one-year warranty. Its continued product development, domestic manufacturing capabilities and growing distributor support helped distinguish the company as the 2026 SEMA Manufacturer of the Year.

SEMA Show opening

The 2026 SEMA Show opens today at the Las Vegas Convention Center, bringing the global automotive aftermarket together for four days of product introductions, technology demonstrations and business development. Across the Show campus, manufacturers, buyers, builders and vehicle manufacturers are connecting around the products and trends shaping vehicle performance, personalization and repair.

The businesses gathered at the Show represent an industry that contributes $383 billion to the U.S. economy, supports 1.25 million jobs and generates $107.7 billion in wages, according to a SEMA Economic Impact Study released October 27, 2026.

The industry's economic strength is supported by sustained consumer demand. American consumers spent $52.92 billion on accessory and performance parts in 2025. The SEMA Show brings that marketplace together, connecting product developers and manufacturers with the buyers, distributors, installers, media and content creators who help bring those products to market.

"The economic-impact data demonstrates the size and strength of the specialty automotive aftermarket, and the SEMA Show brings together the people and businesses behind that impact," said SEMA CEO Mike Spagnola. "This is where manufacturers turn ideas into products, buyers identify new opportunities, and businesses build the partnerships needed to meet sustained consumer demand. The work conducted across this industry supports continued investment, skilled jobs and economic growth in communities throughout the country."

Vehicle Manufacturers and Aftermarket Companies Converge

The 2026 SEMA Show features participation from Ford Motor Company; Harley-Davidson; Honda Racing Corp., representing Honda and Acura; Mitsubishi; Nissan; Stellantis, represented by Dodge, Jeep and Mopar; and Toyota. Their participation reinforces the Show's role as a marketplace where vehicle manufacturers, aftermarket companies, builders and buyers explore new products, technologies and business opportunities.

Across more than 1.1 million net sq. ft. of indoor exhibit space, more than 2,200 brands are showcasing products spanning racing and performance, trucks, SUVs and off-road, powersports, accessories, tools and equipment, wheels and tires, mobile electronics, collision repair and emerging technology. More than 400 brands are exhibiting for the first time, bringing new companies and products into a marketplace that attracts buyers and other industry professionals from around the world.

Expanded Powersports Section Connects Complementary Markets

The expanded Powersports, Side-by-Side and Adventure Lifestyle section brings motorcycles, dirt bikes, side-by-sides, trailers, tow vehicles, gear and adventure-lifestyle products together in the West Hall.

Its new location alongside the Truck, SUV and Off-Road section reflects the growing overlap among automotive, powersports and outdoor-recreation markets. The placement allows attendees to explore complementary products and business opportunities across adjacent sections, while nearby outdoor areas provide demonstrations involving side-by-sides and other purpose-built vehicles.

SEMA Battle of the Builders Presented by Mothers also expands in 2026 with the Bike Builder Shootout, which will recognize three standout motorcycle builders and name an overall Bike Builder Champion. The new category joins the competition's four automotive classes and broadens the Show's platform for professional and emerging builders.

Technology Showcases Address Modification, Manufacturing and Emerging Systems

The expanded ADAS Showcase gives attendees direct access to vehicle manufacturer engineers, technical specialists, late-model vehicles and calibration equipment to examine how vehicle modifications can influence advanced driver-assistance system operation and calibration requirements. Hands-on demonstrations will explore factors including vehicle geometry, sensor positioning, mounting locations and replacement components. The Showcase is also designed as a platform for conversations and ideas on how the industry can progress in the future of ADAS.

The FutureTech Studio returns with more than 20 vehicles, technology demonstrations and 21 microlearning sessions focused on technologies changing how aftermarket products are designed, developed and brought to market. Programming will address advanced powertrains and fuels, artificial intelligence, automated driving technologies and emerging product-development tools, helping attendees evaluate potential applications and business opportunities.

Other Show features include the New Products Showcase, featuring thousands of products and app-based scanning that allows attendees to save product information and connect with exhibitors; the Collision Repair Stage, with hands-on welding and virtual-reality demonstrations; the Toyo Tires Treadpass, showcasing vehicle debuts that highlight builder creativity, craftsmanship and innovation; and feature-vehicle displays throughout the campus.

Outdoor activations across the Las Vegas Convention Center campus will feature ride-alongs, drifting, off-road demonstrations, vehicle competition and performance driving. Programming includes RAYS Wheels ride-alongs ; the National Motor Fest Smoke Show and One Nation Racing Outlaw Series demonstrations; and OPTIMA Unleashed drifting, ride-alongs and the OPTIMA Ultimate Street Car Invitational. Together, the activations give attendees opportunities to experience vehicle performance, driver skill and enthusiast culture in motion.

"The SEMA Show gives businesses a concentrated view of where the market is heading and creates the face-to-face connections that turn ideas into commercial opportunities," said SEMA Vice President of Events Tom Gattuso. "This year's vehicle-manufacturer participation expanded powersports and adventure-lifestyle offerings, product debuts and live experiences demonstrate the breadth of innovation across the aftermarket. Whether attendees are here to source products, strengthen partnerships or identify their next market opportunity, the Show is built to help move their businesses forward."

Friday Programming Expands Access to the Show

The SEMA Show is open to qualified industry professionals Tuesday through Friday and to ticketed enthusiasts ages 16 and older on Friday, Nov. 6. SEMA Show Friday – Open to the Public gives ticket holders access to the exhibit halls from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., including new products, custom vehicle builds, feature displays and outdoor demonstrations. Public day tickets without concert access remain available at SEMAShow.com/public; all SEMA Fest and combined Show-and-concert packages are sold out.

The sold-out event will feature performances by The Offspring, Jimmy Eat World, 311 and The Alive, along with OPTIMA Unleashed drift demonstrations, the Globe of Death motorcycle stunt show and a Supercar Saturdays Florida display of hypercars, supercars and exotic vehicles.
