SEMA Scholarship Fund
Jeff Allen’s V06 fetched $150,000 at Barrett-Jackson, with proceeds to benefit the SEMA Memorial Scholarship Fund.

After a year-long cross-country tour at high-profile automotive events, the one-of-a-kind build by Jeff Allen of Flat 12 Gallery finally reached the auction block in Scottsdale, Arizona. The vehicle, a morph between a ’63 Volvo 122S Amazon and ’13 Grand Sport Corvette, packs a 600hp Lingenfelter Built LS7 under the hood. Chosen by Allen, all $150,000 generated from the auction will benefit the SEMA Memorial Scholarship Fund. The vehicle’s final hammer price broke the auction record for the highest-selling Volvo Amazon, along with the highest-selling Volvo at auction in history.

“When we first created the V06, we knew we had something special,” said Allen. “But without the help of Shell and Pennzoil, this vehicle wouldn’t be here today on the block fetching this much money to donate to the SEMA Memorial Scholarship Fund, which was the ultimate reward.”

Allen chose the SEMA Memorial Scholarship Fund because of his support for upcoming groups of automotive enthusiasts. The fund offers financial assistance to help foster the next generation of automotive aftermarket industry leaders and innovators. With the auction’s proceeds going to the fund, the program can continue to assist future automotive leaders.

“Shell and Pennzoil are grateful to work with incredible teams like Flat 12 and Barrett-Jackson to help generate awareness and support for the SEMA Memorial Scholarship Fund,” said Don Moser, North America marketing manager at Shell Oil Co. “It’s rewarding to know that students across the United States will directly benefit from the auction proceeds and have the opportunity to pursue careers in the automotive industry.”

After the auction, Allen found himself overjoyed with the result and how much it meant to create the record-setting Volvo for charity. “I’m ecstatic and somewhat speechless that the Volvo V06 generated $150,000 for the SEMA Memorial Scholarship Fund, and subsequently, set a world record for the highest-selling Volvo at auction,” said Allen. “When I set out to build and campaign this vehicle for charity, I never imagined the impact it would have.”

Barrett-Jackson officials also were excited for the success of the auction, stressing the importance of the SEMA Memorial Scholarship Fund for future automotive enthusiasts. “It was an incredible opportunity to not only support the SEMA Memorial Scholarship Fund, but also to create history with a new auction record for a custom Volvo,” said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “The SEMA Memorial Scholarship Fund plays an important role in nurturing students of this great hobby. It’s especially rewarding to know that industry leaders, like Jeff Allen, are investing in the next generation of builders, technicians as well as business professionals, who will lead this industry into the future.”

Durango

Here’s a refresh for Dodge’s popular three-row SUV. As the Jeep brand prepares to roll out two new Jeep Grand Cherokee variants for the ’21 model year (including a three-row model), the current Dodge Durango will soldier on (10 years old by the time this hits the market).

This Durango has a heavy camouflaged front end, which looks to be hiding updated styling for the ’21 model year, while the rest of the vehicle looks virtually unchanged. According to information released during the recent UAW negotiations, Dodge will introduce a mild-hybrid system from its RAM 1500 lineup into the ’21 Dodge Durango.

The Dodge Durango will continue to be built alongside the next-generation ’21 Jeep Grand Cherokee at the Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit, and should be launching in the third quarter of 2020.
