’12 Jetta GLI

Volkswagen of America will be hosting a measuring session featuring the ’12 Passat mid-size sport sedan and ’12 Jetta GLI performance sedan at its Ontario Learning Center in Ontario, California. The Passat (lift & static) and Jetta (static only) session will be held on Monday April 4, from 8:30 a.m.–3:00 p.m., while the Jetta (lift only) will be held on Tuesday, April 5, from 8:30 a.m.–3:00 p.m.

The Passat comes equipped with three engine choices, all mated to either a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission: a 170-hp, 2.5L, five-cylinder; a 170-hp, 2.0L TDI; and 280-hp, 3.6L, VR6.

The Jetta GLI is powered by a 200-hp, 2.0L TC four-cylinder engine mated to either a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.

A House Judiciary Subcommittee held a hearing on a SEMA-supported bill that would require federal judges to sanction plaintiffs and attorneys who file lawsuits the judges deem frivolous. Under current law, federal judges are allowed but not required to impose penalties. The “Lawsuit Abuse Reduction Act” (LARA) would also eliminate a provision in current law that allows lawyers to avoid penalties by withdrawing frivolous claims after sanction proceedings have begun. Courts could also award the prevailing parties reasonable expenses and attorney's fees in defending against a frivolous lawsuit. Similar legislation has been introduced in the past decade, most recently in 2005 when the House passed a bill but it failed in the Senate.
