MPMC-member companies are invited to attend a networking breakfast, Friday, September 2, at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis, during the NHRA U.S. Nationals.

Motorsports Parts Manufacturers Council (MPMC)-member companies are invited to attend a networking breakfast, Friday, September 2, at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis, during the NHRA U.S. Nationals. The breakfast mixer is from 9:00 a.m.–10:00 a.m., in the hospitality tent located on the top end of the PRO pits.

“This is a networking, mixer-type event,” said MPMC Chairman Kyle Fickler of Weld Racing. “We (manufacturers) are all so busy at an event like the U.S. Nationals that we thought a breakfast gathering might provide an opportunity to share a cup of coffee and a pastry and catch up with each other.”

“We’re hoping to see not only our MPMC members there,” said MPMC Chair-Elect Vic Wood of Hedman Performance, “but all of our motorsports parts manufacturer peers who are exhibiting on the Midway at the U.S. Nationals.”

Impact by MasterCraft Safety is hosting a factory tour for all MPMC Breakfast Mixer attendees. The tour will begin shortly after the mixer, at the Impact factory located a short distance from Lucas Oil Raceway. Tour attendees will caravan to the factory immediately following the MPMC breakfast mixer, which ends at 10:00 a.m.

SEMA will present its second webinar in a two-part exploration of necessary information to help SEMA Show exhibitors make good choices so they can optimize their Show experience (Part 1 may be accessed in the webinar archives).

This session will consist of a walk-through of the SEMAShow.com Exhibitor Manual. Which forms do you need to complete and which ones should you look at? What do you absolutely need? How can you create a timeline? Are the deadlines really deadlines?

This webinar will review critical items, including:

  • Budget Worksheet: Upon completion, it will automatically add up all your anticipated expenses, giving you an idea of what you will spend.

  • Deadlines Checklist: You can save money on all the items you order for the Show just by applying for programs and supplies by the deadline. Also, this is a great way to see and take advantage of every program SEMA has to offer.

  • Who are the official contractors? What services can they offer?

Whether you are a first-time exhibitor or SEMA Show veteran, you don't want to miss this step-by-step look at the Exhibitor Manual, presented by Jennifer Carr of ConvExx, Tuesday, August 30, at 10:00 a.m. (PDT).

  Project Vehicles Overhead

The SEMA Cruise will feature 2011 SEMA Show display vehicles exiting the Las Vegas Convention Center in parade-like fashion, a phenomenon that has been taking place, and gathering crowds of onlookers, at the Show for more than a decade.

This November, a highly visible new feature sure to add value to exhibitors debuts at the 2011 SEMA Show, bringing the Show's jaw-dropping, trade-only vehicles to a new audience.

A phenomenon has been taking place at the SEMA Show for more than a decade. When the Show ends at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, magic happens as the display vehicles are driven out of the Las Vegas Convention Center. Over the years, this exodus has become an unofficial parade—an extension of the Show that hundreds of industry professionals and the people of Las Vegas line the streets to witness.

This year, the SEMA Show organizers will bring additional spectacle and honors to the procession.

Thanks to the efforts and sponsorship of Chevrolet and its Cruze, eBay Motors, UPS, Swixxtraxx, Mothers Polish and Continental Tire, the SEMA Cruise will achieve official status and be bolstered with awards, giveaways, entertainment and even enhanced seating for the crowds who throng to view the vehicles of the greatest automotive event on the planet.

The parade will culminate in a car show that will be housed in the Gold Lot across from the convention center. VIP interviews, special sponsor awards, showstoppers and continual banter from host Joe Sebergandio will highlight the Cruise. The vehicles are bound to receive additional media coverage, not to mention additional exposure to consumers and enthusiasts who will get their first look at the cars and trucks built with top-drawer specialty equipment by some of the most famous fabricators in the world. Stick around to see which ones receive the greatest acclaim.

  Chrysler 300 Project Vehicle

The SEMA Show features thousands of project vehicles each year that represent the ingenuity and creativity of the specialty-equipment market. SEMA Show exhibitors can generate more product exposure by offering products to builders through the SEMA Show Products for Project-Vehicle Builders list. The list is a simple way to connect exhibitors who want to get more eyes on their products at the Show with builders designing the vehicles that attract attention from thousands of buyers and members of the media.

Each week SEMA eNews will feature the latest additions to the list, and hundreds of builders will access the list to find the pieces they need to complete their builds. Product-placement opportunities such as this are so beneficial that exhibitors often offer products for free or at a greatly reduced rate. Note: The list is reserved for exhibitors of the 2011 SEMA Show.

To place your product on the list, send your company name, a brief product description, contact information and a website where the products can be viewed to eNews@sema.org and put “Product List” in the e-mail subject line. To complete the process online, use this electronic form from the Exhibitor Manual.

Remember, builders will contact you directly, so make sure your contact information is accurate. New submissions will be included each week, when available.

For questions or additional information, contact Jason Catullo at jasonc@sema.org or 909/978-6713.

DRIVERS FIND STREAK OF SUCCESS BEFORE COUNTDOWN CUTOFF:
For Funny Car driver Johnny Gray, Sunday’s eliminations round at the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway was all or nothing. Sitting 95 points behind 10th-place driver Bob Tasca entering the event, Gray knew that if he wanted any chance of moving into that 10th-place spot and competing in the NHRA Full Throttle Countdown to the Championship—NHRA’s six-race playoff to determine the world champions—he would have to win at Brainerd. Gray did just that, holding off fellow Don Schumacher Racing teammate Ron Capps in the final round to collect his first race win.

“You’ve got to have a good car and a bit of luck to win, and we had both of them today,” said Gray. “If we don’t make the Countdown, well some of the cars who crucified us early in the season when we didn’t have a good car will pay in those last six races. We’ve got a good race car now and it’s going to get better.”

With the win, Gray moved to within 62 points, or within three round wins of 10th-place driver Bob Tasca. “We’ll take this momentum to Indy and do the best we can,” said Gray. “If Tasca has some bad luck, we’ll have a chance.”

Gray wasn’t the only driver making some important moves before the Countdown Sunday. Fellow teammate Antron Brown moved up to the second spot in the Top Fuel point standings with his race win, while defending NHRA Full Throttle Pro Stock world champion Greg Anderson moved past teammate Jason Line to take the top spot in the Pro Stock point standings. Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Eddie Krawiec also took the top spot in the point standings in his category with his semifinal round appearance. RUNNING FOR NO. 1: Top Fuel pilot Antron Brown after his race win Sunday at the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals in Brainerd, Minnesota, which moved him up to second in the point standings: “The closer to the top spot at the beginning of the Countdown, the better your chances are for a championship. The top driver gets a 30-point cushion and we’d like to keep our deficit at that number by finishing in second place after the Indy race.”

60 YEARS IN NHRA HISTORY

1982, ‘GREATEST RUN EVER’:
At the 1982 running of the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals, Don “the Snake” Prudhomme stole the show with an amazing 5.637-second qualifying pass that was nearly two-tenths quicker than the existing Funny Car record. Prior to the event, no Funny Car had even run in the 5.7s, let alone the 5.6s. Though Prudhomme didn’t go on to win the event, the spectacular qualifying run was rightfully named and considered “One of the Greatest Runs Ever.”

43: That’s the number of points that separate 10th-place Pro Stock driver Ron Krisher, 11th-place Larry Morgan and 12th-place Ronnie Humphrey. That’s just over two rounds of racing. All three drivers will be looking to lock in the 10th and final spot in the Countdown to the Championship at the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals next week.
