Scheduled to arrive next year, the ’13 Ford Escape is projected to debut with fuel economy up to 5 mpg better than the outgoing model, thanks in part to 10% better aerodynamics.

It will be offered with optional 1.6L and 2.0L EcoBoost engines for the North American market, or an updated 2.5L four as standard equipment. All engines will be backed by a SelectShift Automatic six-speed transmission.  

According to Ford, 60% of Americans shopping for a vehicle next year will look at either a midsize car or small SUV, making the Escape part of one of the most cross-shopped, fastest-growing segments in the marketplace.  
The newest version of the Escape will offer more cargo volume behind the first and second rows, a trailer tow rating of 3,500 lbs., and a two-position load floor.

Advanced features include a hands-free power liftgate that operates with the kick of a foot, an active grille shutter system that improves aerodynamics, and Intelligent 4WD that uses sensor inputs to turn the vehicle in the direction the driver wants it to go.

	The newest version of the Escape will offer more cargo volume behind the first and second rows, a trailer tow rating of 3500 pounds, and a two-position load floor.

The Chevy Camaro is among the key passenger cars being considered by GM for project vehicle proposals.

The General Motors 2012 SEMA Show strategy will focus on passenger car accessories. The key passenger cars to be considered include the Chevrolet Spark, Sonic, Cruze and Camaro. Other GM product lines may be available in limited quantities within the scope of this program. Proposals will be reviewed on an individual basis for approval. Three copies of the proposal, including a rendering on 8½ x 11 paper (stapled, not bound) are requested and preferred over e-mailed submissions. To be considered, proposals must include the four General Motors criteria listed below for content and definition:

• An introductory letter defining the project vehicle's theme (i.e. appealing to which market segment) and its general content, vehicle need date and project completion date.

• A list of specific system upgrades, including partnered sources, if appropriate. Please use the Excel-formatted “Sheet B,” which will be provided by calling Bob Kern as stated below.

• A proposed list of intended events, trade shows, publications, etc., where the vehicle will be promoted. Availability for the 2012 SEMA Show in Las Vegas is required. Please state where the vehicle will be displayed at the SEMA Show and who will sponsor the vehicle, if it is placed in a feature spot. Note that partners are required to promote the vehicle through November 1, 2013. Proposals with guaranteed interior booth space will be given preferred consideration.

• 8½ x 11 color renderings illustrating front/side and rear appearance (composite ¾ views acceptable) with the intended color and graphic scheme accurately defined. If the interior will be significantly modified, an interior sketch insert is recommended. Preservation of front-end brand identity (divisional emblem and possibly grille features) is mandatory.

These shots of the updated European Opel Insignia—a sibling of the Buick Regal—provide good indication that a facelift is on the way for the U.S. version, according to the shooters at Brenda Priddy & Co.

Based on current reports, Priddy's team expects to see a freshening of the Regal's front and rear, including the headlights and tail lamps, for the 2014 model year.
