The 2015 SEMA Market Report is now available to members at no cost.

Consumer spending on automotive specialty-equipment parts and accessories is on the rise, reaching $36 billion in 2014. This number, which represents an 8% growth over the previous year and the fifth consecutive year of growth, is reported in the 2015 SEMA Market Report available exclusively to SEMA-member companies.

“This is an exciting time for the automotive specialty-equipment industry,” said Chris Kersting, SEMA’s president and CEO. “Businesses are thriving, and new technology and new ways of doing business are helping companies to succeed and grow exponentially.”

Kersting points to such changes as advanced manufacturing systems and social media as a few developments that have transformed the way businesses operate.

“Companies can develop products faster than ever before, and connecting with customers is more immediate than it’s ever been,” said Kersting. “One thing that has remained the same is the passion that SEMA-member businesses have for vehicle customization.”

The SEMA Market Report is filled with additional details about the state of the industry. The nearly 80-page report notes:
  • Street performance remains the largest SEMA niche, reaching almost $10 billion.
  • Light truck continues to rebound, climbing 9% in 2014.
  • Off-road accessory retail sales continues their growth, up 8% this year.
  • With high gas prices and a push in small-car sales, the compact performance market continues to offer expanding opportunity currently valued at more than $5.18 billion.
The SEMA Market Report is conducted yearly to help SEMA-member companies understand the industry and make informed business decisions. The entire report is available for free to members.

 3D Printer SEMA Garage
Using the SEMA Garage’s new 3D printer, members are able to print functional prototypes in up to nine different materials as large as 16x14x16 in.

SEMA-member manufacturers now have access to a new, upgraded 3D printer that produces larger and more accurate prototypes than the machine previously available through the SEMA Garage.

Resembling a vending machine that dispenses soft drinks, the new Fortus 450mc is actually the preeminent model on the market. It features cutting-edge technology and produces physical products (or prototypes) using computer-aided design (CAD) files. Products can be produced as large as 406x355x406 mm (16x14x16 in.) with accuracy within plus or minus .005 in., in nine standard, engineering and high-performance thermoplastics.

The 2015 PWA Conference Kickoff will include tours of the 15,000-sq.-ft. SEMA Garage facility and demonstrations of new, upgraded equipment that cuts product development time by more than 50%.

All SEMA manufacturers are invited to join the Performance Warehouse Association (PWA) for the PWA Conference Kickoff, where the newly remodeled SEMA Garage will make its formal debut.

Taking place at the SEMA Garage in Diamond Bar, California, on Sunday, August 30, from 6:00 p.m.–9:00 p.m., the 2015 PWA Conference Kickoff will include tours of the 15,000-sq.-ft. facility and demonstrations of new and upgraded equipment that cuts product development time by more than 50%.

“We’re excited to host the PWA Conference Kickoff and are looking forward to sharing the new equipment and resources that are available through the SEMA Garage,” said Mike Spagnola, SEMA vice president of OEM and product development programs. “Since the SEMA Garage opened less than two years ago, it has served as a valuable resource to help hundreds of manufacturers with their product development. With the new equipment now available, we hope to help even more members.”

Those who attended the SEMA Garage Open House event last summer will hardly recognize the facility. It has been completely remodeled and features an all-new emissions lab, an upgraded 3D scanner and 3D printer, a cutting-edge training center and more.

During the PWA event, participants will tour the facility and watch equipment demonstrations. Expert SEMA staff will also be on hand to discuss how 3D printing and scanning works, and answer questions on how to navigate the often confusing and arduous emissions-certification process.

Learn more about the event, and RSVP online.
