Hypertherm Celebrates Opening of New Waterjet Office and Manufacturing Facility

Hypertherm is celebrating the grand opening of a new 28,000-sq.-ft. waterjet facility in New Brighton, Minnesota. The building contains both office and manufacturing space for the company’s line of HyPrecision waterjet products. In addition, it houses manufacturing space for Hypertherm’s AccuStream brand of consumable parts for competitive waterjet systems. Though located less than a quarter-mile from Hypertherm’s former waterjet headquarters, the move enables opportunities for Hypertherm, the greater New Brighton community and the environment as a whole. Advantages include a new, ultramodern, closed-loop water recirculation system expected to save about 22 million gallons of water per year. Additionally, the new facility utilizes a dry cooler system to convert the harsh Minnesota climate into clean energy. While a standard chiller functions much like an enormous refrigerator, the dry cooler uses 12 simple fans to blow outside air over a radiator. The dry cooler, which automatically turns on when the outdoor temperature dips below 60 degrees Fahrenheit, uses a small fraction of energy compared to the chiller, according to the manufacturer.

Twenty-three of the 40 teams will compete at the SEMA Show, but only four will go on from there to compete in the Championship Finals held at the 2015 PRI Show.

Forty teams comprised solely of high-school students have put in countless hours perfecting a performance engine rebuild in less than 35 minutes. Now their hard work is paying off as they head to the Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Engine Challenge Dual Championship—the last step before competing for the overall title of Engine Challenge National Champion at the Championship Finals.

The first of these semi-final events is held at the 2015 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, November 3–6. Twenty-three of the 40 teams will compete at the SEMA Show, but only four will go on from there to compete in the Championship Finals held at the 2015 PRI Show. The remaining teams will compete at the PRI Show Dual Championship in Indianapolis, December 10–12. The top four from SEMA and from PRI will then compete in an “Elite Eight” Championship Finals, held Friday afternoon and Saturday—the last day of the PRI Show.

For each round of the Dual Championship, four teams will compete against each other at one time. It’s a race against the clock and each other. Only the four quickest teams to complete the engine rebuild with the fewest errors will be crowned the Dual Championship winners.

“We have seen incredible growth in the program this year alone,” stated Hot Rodders of Tomorrow President Jim Bingham. “The level of competition coming from these high-school teams is very impressive. We love seeing the students get excited about the automotive industry and fuel a passion for what they want to do with their careers. The SEMA Show Dual Championship is going to be amazing to watch. We wish the best of luck to all the teams competing. Regardless of the outcome at the Show, they should be very proud of what they’ve accomplished in getting to this point.”

The SEMA Show Dual Championship begins Tuesday, November 3, at 9:00 a.m. Eight heats will be held throughout that day with the final four teams competing at 4:00 p.m. The action returns Wednesday at 8:00 a.m. with another eight heats. The final six heats will be held Thursday and the award ceremony will be held Friday, November 6, at 10:00 a.m. Complete details and the Dual Championship schedule can be found at www.hotroddersoftomorrow.com. Results will also be posted on the website and the organization’s Facebook page.
