Ford Motor Co. recognized the most significant design achievements at the 2017 SEMA Show with its Corporate Design Awards. The awards are presented annually by the automaker to the Ford vehicles that make a significant contribution to vehicle design and stand apart from all others at the Show.

An exclusive screening of the IndyCar safety team documentary “Yellow, Yellow, Yellow” will be featured Thursday, December 7, for attendees of the PRI Trade Show. Afterward, John Waraniak, SEMA vice president of vehicle technology, will moderate a panel discussion with some of the most influential safety specialists in the world of motorsports: Dr. Terry Trammell, Dr. Stephen Olvey and Jeff Horton.

“Yellow, Yellow, Yellow” is a network television special that examines the work done by the IndyCar safety team and the accident investigation group and their dedication to preventing motorsports injuries. The documentary includes detailed interviews with IndyCar drivers James Hinchcliffe and Tony Kanaan, IndyCar safety manager Mike Yates, head of the IndyCar accident investigation group Horton and orthopedic consultant and driver advocate Trammell. The documentary was produced by motorsports production company A Mile A Way Productions.

Following the 45-minute screening, Waraniak will lead a discussion on motorsports safety with special guests Trammell and Horton, who will be joined by Olvey, a pioneer in motorsports safety who worked as a track doctor for more than 30 years. In this discussion, Waraniak and his guests will explore past, present and future trends in motorsports safety, medicine, technology, science and the issues that safety experts face when drivers get behind the wheel.

“SEMA was founded on the grassroots of performance and motorsports more than 50 years ago, and the PRI Trade Show has become the Gemba—the frontline—for the business of racing, as well as the home of the International Council of Motorsport Sciences Annual Congress,” said Waraniak. “It is an honor and privilege to host the screening and panel discussion of ‘Yellow, Yellow, Yellow’ here in Indy and salute the people, technologies and organizations that have led the way in motorsports safety research and application, and continue to create our preferred futures in the great sport of motor racing."

A Mile A Way Productions is a Los Angeles-based film and television production company that specializes in motorsports documentary, non-fiction and feature programming. Currently they are in production on the feature film documentary “Rapid Response,” an adaptation of Olvey’s book Rapid Response: My Inside Story as a Motor Racing Life-Saver, which traces the roots of motorsports safety through the memoirs and experiences of a safety team pioneer.

“Race fans are already familiar with the amazing work the safety team does for Indycar, but ‘Yellow, Yellow, Yellow’ gave us a chance to get up close and meet the people who are at every race with the single purpose of trying to keep drivers safe,” said Michael William Miles, executive producer. “We just so happened to be in production on our feature documentary, ‘Rapid Response,’ when James Hinchliffe’s incident occurred and were lucky to be able to interview so many current personnel involved in the rescue success story. It was fascinating to hear their stories, watch them prepare for races and see the time and effort they put into safety development even when they’re not on the track. We feel their commitment to racing safety is inspiring. Hopefully this special will give race fans a better understanding of what the safety team does and how they do it.”

The screening and discussion is a free session open to all attendees of the PRI Trade Show, held Thursday, December 7, from 11:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m., in Room 242 of the Indiana Convention Center.
