Jeep BuildThe proceeds from the auction of the ’15 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited will help fund the next vehicle build for the purpose of creating a self-sustaining program.

A fully customized Jeep built through a unique student program that launched in late 2017 is now complete and set to go on the auction block. With 100% of the proceeds raised from the auction to be used to fund another student project, the goal is to provide a sustainable program that educates students about vehicle builds and careers in the automotive industry. The ’15 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited auction will be from Tuesday, June 19–Tuesday, June 26.

“The industry has really supported this project,” said Zane Clark, SEMA Senior Director of Education. “Their generosity has elevated the build beyond our expectations and created a once-in-a-lifetime learning experience for the students.”

With upgrades and product donations from nearly two dozen manufacturers, the modified four-wheel-drive Jeep includes:

“The Jeep build gave me hands-on experience that I would have never been able to get anywhere else,” said Prince William DeMent, recent graduate from the Santa Fe Eco.  “I learned more during the six months of the project than I did in my entire high school career.”

The Jeep auction will kick off Tuesday, June 19, through Bring-A-Trailer. Details about the auction will be announced at www.sema.org/jeep-build. Interested buyers are encouraged to create an account on Bring-A-Trailer in advance so there are not delays or glitches once bidding opens.

A bill was introduced in the Vermont state legislature to extend the emissions inspection exemption to vehicles that have not yet reached their fourth model year. Current law does not provide for a new vehicle exemption. The bill would have also exempted “pleasure cars” and “exhibition vehicles” from emissions inspections.

The bill failed to receive a hearing in the House Transportation committee before the legislature adjourned; however, it will be eligible for consideration in the 2019 session.
